The developers of Path of Exile are indeed bringing a new league, and it’s supposed to be crazier than anything before.
What promise is being referred to? The developers of Path of Exile and its successor have repeatedly emphasized during development that both games would be programmed side by side. Path of Exile 1 should not suffer from the fact that they are working on PoE2.
Due to the increasing pressure from the release date, Game Director Jonathan Rogers ultimately decided to involve the experienced PoE1 developers after all. The tasks in PoE2 are so extensive that the former PoE1 developers are to continue working on the successor today and in the future.
As a result, Path of Exile 1 has not received any new content for about 7 months. Actually, there shouldn’t be any updates soon, but the protest from the community on social media (via Reddit.com), forums (via pathofexile.com), and on Steam is now causing a rethink among the developers.
This is how the bosses of Path of Exile 2 are created:
Crazy league coming to Path of Exile
What have the developers now announced? Due to the massive protest from the community, the developers are now deviating from their original plan and bringing a major content update for Path of Exile 1.
In an announcement on pathofexile.com, the developers show what they are planning. They are announcing a month-long event league that includes content they previously considered too “crazy” for the game.
As an example, the developers mention a major change that has never occurred before. There are supposed to be 19 new ascendants, i.e., subclasses, for the crazy event. “What does Path of Exile 1 look like if you can play a witch and ascend to Harbinger?” the developers ask in the post.
What else is known? The developers explain in their statement that they have now redistributed internal resources to Path of Exile 1 to enable the content update. However, it remains unknown whether they will stay there once the update is released.
As of now, it is also not known when the month-long event league is set to start. Since the work has likely just begun, players will probably have to be patient. The developers promise to release more details about the content update soon and look forward to the gamers’ reactions to their even crazier ideas.
That the developers are listening to the community and are now at least trying to keep their promise to some extent pleases gamers in initial reactions under the post. Now it remains to be seen whether the mood will stay so positive when the event league is still a long time coming. Meanwhile, not all players are happy in the successor: A mechanic in Path of Exile 2 torments every solo player, blocking progress in the endgame
