The indie MMORPG Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen has once again been chosen as the “most awaited MMORPG” on mmorpg.com, even beating Lost Ark. An alpha is finally expected to start in 2022.
What kind of MMORPG is it?
- Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen was the big dream of developer Brad McQuaid, who made a name for himself with Everquest and Vanguard. However, he passed away in 2019.
- Essentially, Pantheon aims to be a “real MMORPG” where you need a group for everything and must fight through dungeons instead of just rushing through hysterically laughing.
- The MMORPG feels very “oldschool” and clearly takes inspiration from titles like Everquest – it is an MMORPG for MMORPG purists and enthusiasts.
Pantheon wins “most awaited MMORPG 2022” – Beats Lost Ark
What award did it win? The creators of the MMORPG are currently thrilled because they have won the award for “most awaited game” on mmorpg.com. They even beat out “Lost Ark”.
This is a somewhat surprising choice, as the release of Lost Ark for 2022 is already confirmed. Yet the release of Pantheon is still uncertain.
Winning such an award often means that an MMORPG has successfully inspired its core community to participate in the voting.
Where does Pantheon stand right now? In a blog post, the developer looks back at 2021: In January, they announced an investment that allowed them to hire new employees. Throughout the year, the team worked diligently on the MMORPG: There were “pre-alpha sessions” in April, June, and July.
For 2022, streams, more pre-alpha sessions, and events are planned. A start to the alpha is proposed as a significant milestone in development for 2022.
This is how it’s being discussed: In discussions about Pantheon and the award win, there are essentially two camps:
- Some are incredibly enthusiastic about Pantheon and say that since they first heard about the MMORPG, they’ve been waiting for it, and for them, it is undoubtedly the “most awaited MMORPG”.
- Others criticize the long development time and how little the game has to show for itself. When a game wins the award for “most awaited MMORPG” three times in a row, it is seen as an insult. The game is reportedly competing with Star Citizen for the title of “longest development”.
