The nominations for this year’s Game Awards have been announced and are missing a major title: Palworld. While some players are very upset about this, the developers themselves are taking it calmly.
What are the Game Awards? This is an annual award ceremony that honors the best games in various categories at the end of the year. Last year, Baldur’s Gate 3 won the coveted main award for Game of the Year.
A look at the list of nominees for 2024 shows that renowned titles are once again competing for the award this year. Among them are Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth, Black Myth: Wukong, and Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree.
Palworld is missing from the list. The game was a huge surprise success at the beginning of 2024 and caused quite a stir. Most recently especially due to the legal disputes with Nintendo.
Fans of Palworld are now angry that the game does not appear in a single category of the Game Awards. They accuse the organizers of deliberately ignoring the title. A community manager from the team has now responded to these accusations.
Not everything is a conspiracy theory
What does the Community Manager say? On x.com, the community manager Bucky responded to the accusations. Although he is part of the team, he cannot understand the angry reactions.
Bucky does not think that Palworld was deliberately overlooked. However, such a reaction is to be expected on Twitter, now called X. The community manager continues: “Stop being such overly dramatic gamers. Not everything is a conspiracy.”
With a wink, Bucky emphasizes, however, that another game, namely Satisfactory, was “1000%” overlooked. He would personally express this opinion at the awards ceremony.
Does this satisfy the fans? Under the post from the community manager, comments from players are piling up, stating that this statement is not enough for them. They still see Palworld being treated unfairly:
- “The Game Awards were and will always be a joke. Palworld is, in my opinion, a deserving nominee,” writes the user Jinta Nimara.
- “It was 100% overlooked. It was the biggest game of the year,” thinks Paul Marks.
- “There are definitely some high-profile games that were not considered, and I wonder how they (the organizers) came to these conclusions,” comments the user Rester.
Others, however, write that Palworld is still an early access title and that the game is not finished yet. Perhaps the version 1.0 will then be rewarded with an award in some time. However, other early access titles, such as Manor Lords, are also represented among the nominations.
