For Palworld, the big Survival hit on Steam, a major patch was released on February 1, 2024, which aimed to fix a number of fairly serious issues. Players are excited and celebrate the developers for their quick response.
What kind of patch is this? On February 1, 2024, patch 0.1.4.0 for Palworld was released. Developer Pocketpair fixed 25 issues, some of which were quite serious. Cheaters are no longer able to steal your beloved Pals.
Furthermore, long-awaited features were added to the game, such as the ability to also assign the side buttons of a gaming mouse. Other fixes bring a smile, as now you should be able to hoard more than 7,000 Pals without corrupting your save file and no longer have to fear raids from an overpowering Relaxaurus. You can find an overview of all the fixes here.
Should Blizzard take a page from this?
How is the patch being received? To put it mildly, quite well. On X, formerly Twitter, many users are celebrating the quick fixes from the developers. They refer to the patch as a “massive W,” or a big “victory” for Pocketpair. One user even writes: “These guys show AAA studios how it’s done.” (via X)
Another player agrees: the developers of Diablo IV could still learn something from the studio behind Palworld (via X).
Others remain unimpressed and can’t resist a little jab: the developers are simply using the time they saved by stealing models for the fixes. This likely refers to the ongoing allegations that Pocketpair shamelessly borrowed from Nintendo in designing their monsters.
Overall, though, the mood appears to be positive – evidenced by the continuously high player counts (via SteamDB).
Of course, you can’t please everyone. Other players report in the comments of ongoing or even new problems that have allegedly arisen from the patch (via X). Now, it remains to be seen whether Pocketpair can appease these players with the next patch.
This sentiment, that AAA studios have lost touch with their players and that smaller studios do everything better, seems to be spreading increasingly. Recently, such statements were heard mainly in connection with the surprise hit of 2023, Baldur’s Gate 3: “You’re embarrassing the other game developers” – Baldur’s Gate 3 delights with a special reward for players
