Palworld started about a month ago with constantly new record player numbers in Early Access. However, the numbers have since declined significantly. Now, the community manager of the game has spoken out on X.com.
Who from the Palworld developer team has reacted? The current response regarding the reporting around the declining numbers comes from X user @Bucky_cm. He is the community manager at Pocket Pair and has previously commented on the events surrounding Palworld.
When Palworld was last confronted with allegations of plagiarism, the developers of the game even received death threats. In addition to Pocket Pair CEO Takuro Mizobe, @Bucky_cm via X.com also spoke out against the attacks. Now he posted regarding the reporting about the declining player numbers.
The Community Manager reacts to the current Steam player numbers
What did he write on X.com? @bucky_com reflects in a longer post on the launch phase of Palworld. Back in May 2023, he was convinced that the game could definitely reach the 50,000-player mark and no more.
Furthermore, Palworld is far from finished, as there are so many issues to resolve and new content to prepare. In fact, developer Pocket Pair is currently desperately seeking support for the team:
Regarding the reporting of the declining player numbers, he has a specific message for the players:
[…] The emerging “Palworld has lost X% of its player base” discourse is lazy. But now is probably a good time [for me] to intervene and assure anyone who reads further than the headlines that it’s okay to take breaks from games. You shouldn’t feel bad about it. Palworld, like so many other games, cannot release massive amounts of new content every week. There will be new content, and it will be great. […]

What are the player numbers for Palworld? The player numbers have primarily declined in the past 2.5 weeks:
The current player peak of according to SteamDB was reached by Palworld on January 27, 2024, with 2,101,867 players. Since then, the player numbers have been dropping. In the last 24 hours, the peak was 512,859 players in the game. The curve of the Steam Charts looks similar.

With over 512,000 concurrent players, Palworld is still far above the 50,000 predicted by @Bucky_cm and even outstrips some AAA games – including Starfield and Baldur’s Gate 3. For Pocket Pair, the game is likely still a complete success even now.
The game’s numbers are likely to decline a bit further until they stabilize. There will probably be a temporary increase in players returning for new content around larger content releases – as hoped by @Bucky_cm.
Many of the still active players seem to be really enjoying and taking their time with Palworld. One of them bred a silly-looking pal 1,856 times and is now even taking down the strongest bosses.
