Palworld is a huge success with millions of players. Now the head of the development studio explained that the game costs them a lot of money every month. Because the servers also need to be paid for by someone.
How successful is Palworld? By now, Palworld is said to have more than 19 million players worldwide on PC and Xbox. On one hand, the game “only” costs about 30 euros compared to other full-price titles, which easily cost 60 or 70 euros. On the other hand, the game can be played for free thanks to Game Pass.
But the success also comes at a price, as the developer has to pay a lot of money for servers every month. This was explained by the CEO of Pocketpair, Takuro Mizobe, in a statement.
Servers prepared without regard to costs
What does the head say? According to a post on Twitter/X by Takuro Mizobe, the server costs of Palworld in February amounted to over 70 million yen. This was reported by the British colleagues from PCGamer.
That is approximately 440,000 euros. In his statement, Mizobe joked: “Wait a minute, maybe we will go bankrupt because of the server fees?”
Why is it so expensive? Another employee of Pocketpair comments on this. The network engineer of Palworld, Chujo Hiroto, writes in a response to the CEO:
According to the instruction to never let the service go down, no matter what happens, we prepared the servers without regard to costs. We will continue to give our all to ensure that all players can enjoy the game to the fullest!
What happens next? The developers are still hard at work fixing numerous bugs and issues. Just with the latest update a few days ago, many critical bugs were fixed that were causing problems.
