Paladins new patch OB44 brings Season 1, Legendary Cards, the currency Essence, and the Survival mode. We have summarized the patch highlights.
Yesterday, Paladins presented its latest patch Ob44 via live stream, which will also be the kickoff for Season 1. The biggest renewal in this patch is the “Legendary Cards,” which give you entirely new options for customizing your champion.
Together with the new cards, there will be a new currency, “Essence”. You need this to craft loadout decks and Legendary Cards. Additionally, the Survival mode comes, where only the strongest team survives.

Legendary Cards – More Customization for Champions in OB44
Legendary Cards give you entirely new possibilities to customize and adapt your champion. They do not belong to your loadout deck but are selected at the beginning of a match. Each Legendary Card provides your champion with powerful attributes that add even more strategic decisions to the game.
- Each champion has a total of 3 Legendary Cards with powerful attributes.
- Before each match, the player selects one of the three cards
- Legendary Cards do not belong to the loadout deck
- Once the Legendary Card is selected, it cannot be changed during the match
- Legendary Cards have no ranks

Update: Due to community feedback, adjustments have been made to OB 44: Adjustments Patch OB 44
Essence – New Currency for Card Creation
Essence will be the new currency in Paladins, with which you buy cards for your loadout deck. The new Legendary Cards will also be unlocked with Essence. With the new currency, even more changes come to card creation.
- Radiant Chests can now be bought for 3,000 Gold
- Radiant Chests no longer give Gold, even for duplicate cards.
- For duplicate cards, there is now Essence
- Loadout and Legendary cards are now unlocked with Essence
- Loadout cards will now be classified into “rarity”: Common, Rare, Epic.
- The rarity has nothing to do with the ranks of the cards, which are still classified as I, II, III, and IV. It only indicates how rare or common a card is.
- Once a card is unlocked, all four ranks will still be released.

Survival Mode – The Tough Fight for Survival
In Survival Mode, you will fight with your friends until only one team remains. It is a tough fight for survival, where a deadly fog slowly moves from the outside to the center of the map. The teams are forced to confront each other in the middle in increasingly smaller spaces and try to eliminate one another. The Hunger Games or Battle Royale greets you.
If the round is not played out after one minute, the fog will cover the entire map and take down everything in its path. If you die in this mode, you remain among the dead. There is no respawn. The first team to survive 5 rounds wins. The Survival mode was already available over six months ago in Paladins but was removed from the game. With OB44 it returns, and the rules have not changed. Survival will be playable on two maps: Primal Court and Snowfall Junction.
Leya says: I am very impressed by the latest changes in Paladins and look forward to testing this patch. Especially the Legendary Cards will turn the action MOBA upside down and add new strategies. Players will need to reorient themselves and learn the new cards and their effects. It will also be interesting to see if the Legendary Cards will throw Paladins off balance. I assume that a large testing period will follow, during which these new cards will be strongly adjusted or completely removed from the game. In any case, the upcoming time will be exciting.
What do you think of the latest changes in Paladins? I will now have to think more about cards…
