In the hero shooter Paladins there was a patch that brought the new champion Kinessa into the game. We have all the details.
The teleporting sniper Kinessa
In the meantime, the beta test of HiRez’s hero shooter Paladins has reached patch number 17, which brings numerous innovations and changes. The highlight is probably the implementation of a new champion. The adjustments to the currency and the maps should also be noted.

Although Kinessa sounds like a typical sniper, she has some particularities that distinguish her playstyle from regular sniper characters. Let’s take a look at her abilities.
- Kinessa can place up to 2 Oppressor Mines simultaneously, each of which can detect a single enemy within a radius of 40 feet and slow them down by 30% until the mines are destroyed.
- The Transporter can be placed anywhere on the map. If activated a second time, it teleports you after a short channeling time.
- In Sniper Mode, the name says it all. Kinessa zooms in with her weapon and gains increased range. The damage of her shots increases the longer she stays in Sniper Mode (after a few seconds, a shot reaches its maximum).
- The ultimate Headhunter enhances all shots for the next 5 seconds with an additional 100% damage if they hit the upper half of the body.
As is common with Paladins, Kinessa’s playstyle can be further adjusted across the various maps. One can increase the number of Oppressor Mines or reduce the charge time of her sniper shots. Several variations are possible depending on playstyle.
Balancing and Currencies
With the patch, there are also some adjustments to the balancing. The dwarf Barik is particularly affected. His “Dome Shield” loses 40% of its hit points, now only having 12,000 instead of 20,000, making it supposedly “less painful” to play against him. For Buck, the health points of the walls from “Imprisonment” are increased from 4,000 to 6,000, but the damage of his weapon is slightly reduced.
Finally, the in-game currencies have been standardized. Instead of “Crafting Resources”, there is now only gold as the in-game currency and crystals as the real money currency. Weapon skins, individual maps, and chests can now be uniformly purchased with gold. Instead of cards and chests, the game now also grants gold for progress – for instance, when achieving a new level in the mastery system with a hero.
