Team shooter Paladins is performing better than many expected. The competitor to Overwatch is well received.
We certainly would not have thought that, but Paladins is improving. Apparently, the changes towards “Overwatch” from March, which our author Cortyn criticized heavily, have appealed to many others. Cortyn had closely covered the game for us before the changes – however, our readers’ interest in the game had remained modest until then. With the introduction on Steam, that seems to have changed.
More than 4 million players have registered for the team shooter by now. Paladins is one of the most popular games on Steam, say the developers at Hi-Rez, who are also behind Smite. The latest Steam data confirms this: a peak of 42,000 simultaneous active players was reached, which was momentarily rank 7 on the PC platform Steam.
The reaction to Paladins is fantastic, and it is not an Overwatch clone – really not
At Hi-Rez, they are pleased: the global reaction to Paladins has been fantastic. It is great to see how the player count grows week by week since the Steam beta started.
Some accuse the game of having taken some inspiration from Overwatch. Hi-Rez remains unfazed by such accusations: They consider Team Fortress 2 and their own “Global Agenda” as the true inspirations.
