Paladins, the free alternative to Overwatch, is now available for download in the Nintendo Switch eShop. However, it comes at a price.
From now on in paid Early Access: To gain access to the Switch version of Paladins, you must purchase a Founder’s Pack for €29.99. The Founder’s Pack includes all 36 current and all future champions, as well as some exclusive cosmetic items.
Paladins will be free for everyone on Switch starting this summer. The exact timing for this is currently unknown.
What is Paladins?
Paladins: Champions of the Realm is a team-based hero shooter by Hi-Rez Studios set in a fantasy world. For example, there are classic snipers or sassy elves as characters. Five players compete against each other and try to gain control of the battlefield in various game modes.
Through a card-based deck system, all heroes are individually customizable: You can use specific cards for each champion and build decks to optimize your personal playstyle.
Cross-play between Xbox One and Nintendo Switch is possible
The Nintendo Switch version of Paladins has multiplayer crossplay between Xbox One and Nintendo Switch. This means you can play on Switch together with friends on Xbox One. However, Sony is opposed and does not want to enable crossplay for Paladins.
Paladins for Nintendo Switch runs on its own Unreal Engine 3 port at 60 FPS.
The Switch version of Paladins already includes the latest update “Furia’s Awakening“, which also brings a team deathmatch event.
