Service games are here to stay for many years. Especially a lot of retro feeling and nostalgia is offered by the twelve MMORPGs from this list, which already have more than 20 years under their belt and are still online. We present to you the vibrant pioneers of World of Warcraft.
Even though the genre of MMORPGs really took off with the launch of World of Warcraft in 2004 or 2005, there were already online role-playing games before that which could excite numerous players and build loyal communities.
So loyal communities that the servers of various MMORPG oldies are still online to this day. In this special, we want to remember some of these still playable pioneers of WoW. We concentrate on games that are at least 20 years old and therefore launched before April 2004.
If we have forgotten important MMORPGs from this early era that can still be experienced on official servers today, feel free to drop your recommendations in the comments. Such lists can easily be expanded.

Meridian 59
Release: December 15, 1996 | Platform: PC | Setting: Fantasy | Developer, Publisher: Open Source | Here is the official website of Meridian 59
Meridian 59 was not the first MMORPG, but it is considered the first online role-playing game with a 3D graphic client to represent the game world. All movable objects such as characters and enemies were still represented in 2D.
The gameplay initially focused primarily on PvP duels. Virtual death was severely punished – by loss of maximum health points as well as all possessions, which could be plundered by other players.
In 2000, the servers went offline due to the bankruptcy of the operators. A comeback followed in 2002. Today, you can experience the MMORPG classic in the Resurgence version, the last update was in April 2023.

Release: September 30, 1997 | Platform: PC | Setting: medieval fantasy | Developer, Publisher: Broadsword, Electronic Arts | Here is the official website of Ultima Online
The iso-MMORPG of the venerable Ultima series by Richard Garriott has a tumultuous past. Since its launch, not only countless content expansions and updates have landed on the live servers, but there has also been a major overhaul and various development teams who have tried their hand at the online adventure.
Since 2014, Ultima Online has been in the hands of Broadsword, which continues to provide the MMORPG oldie with updates very regularly. However, the last major expansion was already released in 2015. New legacy servers, however, are scheduled to be announced for September 2024, which should provide a nostalgic gaming experience.
Ultima Online was the first to offer player housing and fascinated with its online world of Britannia as well as the gameplay freedoms. However, the MMORPG could also be quite frustrating when so-called player killers had their sights set on hunting newbies.

EverQuest
Release: March 16, 1999 | Platform: PC, macOS | Setting: Fantasy | Developer, Publisher: Darkpaw Games, Daybreak | Here is the official website of EverQuest
On March 16, 2024, EverQuest proudly turned 25 years old. More than 9.32 million characters were created during this time. That may sound relatively low, but in 2004 the sequel was already released, which you can also experience to this day – here is the website of EverQuest 2.
The first EverQuest relied on a persistent 3D world at launch and delivered many mechanics that are still standard in online role-playing games today. For five years, no MMORPG was more successful in the USA, 29 expansions have been released to this day – the last in December 2022.
Two short videos tease new content for LEGO Fortnite. What you might look forward to with the new update can be found here.
With a new update, the aspect of farming in LEGO Fortnite could be further expanded. Two short clips now tease what players might look forward to. However, there has not yet been a clear confirmation of the new content from official sources.
What content has been teased? In two short videos on X (formerly Twitter), LEGO Fortnite teases the possibility for players to befriend animals and let them live in their base. In the clip, you can see a sheep being petted and appearing quite affectionate with the character.
There is also a brief zoom on a dialogue that says: “[…] whether they want to live with us …” Following this, the character jumps for joy. So it seems quite likely that the animals will be able to live in your base after the update.

Another clip on the official X account of LEGO Fortnite shows how the player builds a stable and enclosure for the animals in their base. Presumably, the new update will expand farming and animal husbandry a lot more than just offering animals that can then live with you.

What does the community say? The possibility of having animals in their base in the future seems to excite many players already. The reactions in the comments under the short teaser suggest this.
Some players are also already letting their imagination run wild and imagining which animals they would like to let live in their base. One user even requests a horse and saddle in their comment so that they can ride around in the future.
Another player wishes for small Lego pigs in the game, in order to set up a, as he writes, “kid-friendly” slaughterhouse. How exactly that should look remains to the imagination of each individual.

Star Wars: The Old Republic is still online in 2024. Once touted as a WoW killer, the MMORPG never lived up to the high expectations. This is the status of SW:TOR in 2024.
What kind of game is this? Star Wars: The Old Republic, or SWTOR, is an MMORPG from EA and Bioware that recently changed developers about six months ago. In this classic theme park MMO, you play on either the good or evil side of the galaxy as a Jedi, Sith, Soldier, Bounty Hunter, Smuggler, or Agent.
You have access to a variety of classes and specializations that allow you to create your character in the Star Wars universe.
[toc]
SW:TOR has a unique feature: the game’s story. Through various dialogue options, each class experiences its own unique narrative, which also changes based on the decisions you make. For example, you can spare an enemy and gain them as an ally in the next boss fight.
Here you can watch the cinematic trailer for Star Wars: The Old Republic.

The Major Chapter of Broadsword Online Games
Since the pandemic time, very little has happened with SW:TOR, and players have started to worry about the game. Instead of shutting down, the game was handed over to developer Broadsword Online Games. The founder and president of Broadsword, Rob Denton, led the Bioware team during the development and launch of SW:TOR in 2011.
Some of the Bioware developers also transitioned with the game to the new studio. Now, about six months after the transition, we want to look at what has changed in Star Wars: The Old Republic in 2024 and how the MMORPG stands.
What has happened since the takeover? Since the takeover, there have been some updates to SW:TOR, starting with minor improvements to the game’s graphics. The game underwent a small facelift, and the visuals have been slightly enhanced. Some things simply look clearer now – even though not everyone liked it. In addition to the overall appearance and shader effects, individual items were also polished.
A new stronghold, or base, where players can engage in housing, is also available. The fortress is located on the planet Copero and resembles the romantic scenes with Anakin and Padme that were filmed on Lake Como.
Is there anything new to play? Yes, there are new activities as well. For example, the Date-Night events, where you can further develop your romance with your companions, are new.
There is also a new area in SW:TOR that takes you back to Ord Mantell, the starting area for bounty hunters and Republic soldiers. There, you will find the new island “Kessan’s Landing,” with daily missions, achievements, and reputation missions.
Additionally, a new world boss has made its way into the game, which you must defeat together with many players.
The new world boss ‘FR3-D0M’ which also drops a unique means of transport.
What to Expect from SW:TOR in 2024
In Star Wars: The Old Republic, you control a customizable character from a third-person perspective. For some time, you can also choose which story you want to experience, regardless of your class.
The combat system is based on tab-targeting. You activate your abilities and actions by dragging them to a skill bar and triggering them with a keystroke or mouse click. In your missions, you have a companion who supports you as a tank, healer, or damage dealer.
The game is a theme park MMORPG in the Star Wars universe, where you belong to one of two factions: the Galactic Republic or the Sith Empire. The game offers content for all types of players. There is housing, PvE dungeons and raids, PvP modes, and interesting things like space battles.
The MMORPG can be tested quite well without a subscription. However, if you really want to experience everything, especially at endgame, you need to subscribe to the game or at least make a one-time payment to be considered a “preferred player” and have some advantages.
How does character creation work? Character creation in SW:TOR is quite extensive and offers various races and classes to choose from. Each race is available in male and female and can be designed quite individually. However, the MMORPG veteran cannot keep up with character creation systems from modern MMORPGs like Throne and Liberty or Black Desert.
Each class has two subclasses that cannot be changed anymore. Each subclass has three specializations that can be switched. It’s important to think ahead if you want to play as a healer or tank, as you will need to choose your class and subclass accordingly.
The class system in SW:TOR is complex. If you want to know in advance how the individual classes play, you should visit the fan site of swtorista.com. There you will also find useful guides for each small collectible. But as long as you just want to have fun, just choose what you like. There’s really no wrong or too weak class.
Republic charactersEmpire characters
What content do you engage with your character? Your main task at the beginning of the game is to play through the story. This starts on different planets depending on your choice and continues until you reach the maximum level.
On your journey through the many planets, you will learn a lot about the world and the history, and you can even display more missions if needed. In the story, you will also get to know the first flashpoints. These are the dungeons from SW:TOR.
You can play these flashpoints with your NPC companion or in a group. Here’s an overview of all PvE content:
Hero missions for 2 or 4 players
Uprisings (short dungeons)
Flashpoints (dungeons with up to 4 players)
Operations (raids for 8 or 16 players) in various difficulty levels
World bosses in the open world (for guilds)
Space missions
Guild missions to participate in guild competitions
In addition to combat content, you can also engage in many peaceful activities:
Collecting datacrons that give you attributes
Collecting resources and crafting
Weekly events on various planets
Countless achievements and secrets with rewards
Housing on various planets
Friendships and relationships, including missions with the characters
The game is now being expanded more frequently and offers a lot of content that is sometimes quite hidden. A complete enumeration of all possible content is therefore difficult.
How much does SW:TOR cost? The MMORPG has a 3-tier payment model. Firstly, everyone can play the game as a free-to-play user for as long and as extensively as they want. However, there are upper limits regarding credits and participation in certain activities.
Furthermore, one cannot experience the entire story at its current state. Those who have paid once, whether for the subscription or a microtransaction from the shop, will be designated as preferred players and gain access to more content. Anyone who wants to experience everything must subscribe to the game. The game is also playable on Steam.
The game also features an in-game shop where you can buy many cosmetic items. You can also trade the items, effectively exchanging real money for in-game currency, but that doesn’t bring you much.
Most players are already fully equipped, and the equipment itself is also easy to earn. So, there’s no pay-to-win in Star Wars: The Old Republic 2024, as there simply aren’t options to buy any form of victory with money.
SW:TOR always receives cosmetic items from new series and films that you can buy for real money. In this picture, you can see the lightsabers of Ahsoka Tano.
Star Wars: The Old Republic in 2024 – Is it Worth Starting Now, and If So, For Whom?
SW:TOR is now twelve years old. In that time, there has been a lot of content, so much that some side quests are hidden from new players to avoid overwhelming them.
So, is it still worth facing the mountain of content in 2024? Here we answer the most important questions in detail.
Is the content of SW:TOR still relevant? SW:TOR is a game that primarily excites Star Wars fans. To reach current content, you go through a story that, if you really turn over every stone, can take hundreds of hours.
All raids and flashpoints, as well as world bosses and activities, are now at the highest level. Therefore, all raids are about equally challenging, even though some may showcase more mechanics.
Veterans also run their flashpoints daily and raid weekly, often looking forward to showing new players how to play the game in 2024. One advantage for newcomers is the absence of a DPS meter, which can only be replaced by external parsing tools. In-game, no one knows if you have mastered your rotation.
So, anyone starting now will play through parts of the story that still tell an ongoing narrative until they reach the point where everyone else is.
Can you still play the entire story? Yes, the story can not only be played entirely, but it is also intended to be. The story of SW:TOR is what distinguishes the game, a crucial part of it.
From the beginning until you reach the end of the story, you can follow the narrative chronologically. Once you’ve completed the main part, however, you don’t necessarily have to finish all addons chronologically, but you should, to understand everything.
However, newcomers will not see all side quests, which have been somewhat hidden and can be reactivated if needed. This is to ensure that new players do not take too long to see the new content of the game. But anyone who wants can catch up on everything.
The story revolves around Lane Vizla in 2024 in Star Wars: The Old Republic
How to Start New in Star Wars: The Old Republic in 2024?
You have several options for playing SW:TOR. First, choose whether you want to play via Steam or the own launcher.
On which platforms can the game be played? The MMORPG in the Star Wars universe can only be played on PC. Either via Steam or the own launcher, which you can obtain from the website of SW:TOR.
Both launchers play on the same servers.
It’s also important to note that SW:TOR is an online game. An active internet connection is required not just for updates but also for playing.
What subscription models are available? You can initially play the game for free and mainly experience the story. However, as you progress, you will need at least the preferred player status. This grants you access to many new contents. You get it as soon as you have spent money on the game once, even if you subscribed to Star Wars: The Old Republic before 2024.
Anyone who wants to see all the content of SW:TOR must subscribe to the game. A monthly fee between €12.99 and €10.99 is required, depending on how many months you pay in advance. Packages with in-game currency and playtime are also available.
What if I don’t want to deal with the main story? If you want to play Star Wars really without a story, you will quickly hit your limits. Though there are character boosts, you will still encounter story sequences repeatedly. The game is built around a living story.
Nevertheless, you can spend a lot of time in the countless flashpoints, uprisings, operations, and PvP.
A boss from the raid / operation ‘Karagga’s Palace’.
My Conclusion: Why You Should Play SW:TOR
I check in on SW:TOR every few years because I really love the story and the game. I usually stop again after I’ve run everything multiple times, as I believe the game’s biggest weakness is the speed at which new content is introduced.
Sure, over the years a lot of content has built up in SW:TOR that offers hundreds of hours of gameplay, especially for new players. But for players like me, who like to master a new raid every month, SW:TOR is quite slow in terms of updates.
However, the game is a treasure trove of fun and exciting stories for anyone who likes stories, and especially Star Wars. For returning players like me, there may not be as much new content as one would hope.
The transition to Broadsword just happened a short time ago, but I’m hopeful. Should SW:TOR pick up the pace with updates and receive new content more frequently, the game will likely be around for a long time.
Currently, it looks like the numbers for SW:TOR are not too bad either. Otherwise, there would have been a shutdown instead of a studio transition.
In World of Warcraft the next expansion is set to launch this summer. Three trailers have been released for “The War Within” that highlight a new feature of the expansion.

WoW: The War Within trailer introduces Warbands
What does this feature bring? The new feature War Bands enables account-wide progress that your characters can share regardless of faction. The reputation factions and glory levels will also be cross-functional for the entire War Band.
This feature also allows you to easily store items and then use them with all your characters. For players who enjoy having many characters but don’t always have enough time for all of them, this will be a rather useful feature.
WoW: The War Within trailer introduces ‘Dynamic Flight’
What does this feature bring? The last trailer introduces dynamic flying, which was introduced in World of Warcraft: Dragonflight.
With the new expansion, revamped flying mounts that can also fly dynamically will be introduced. The War Within will provide many new race tracks to enhance your flying experience. You will have the option to switch between dynamic and classic flying.
The Galar birds have been featured in Pokémon GO for almost two years now. However, they remain surprisingly rare to encounter – still. This is something MyMMO author Max Handwerk also had to realize. How is it for you?
Do you know this meme of Timmy Turner’s dad showing where he would put his trophy – “if he had one” (example on knowyourmeme.com)?
This is how many Pokémon GO players still feel today as they search for the legendary Galar birds Articuno, Moltres, and Zapdos. They debuted in July 2022 in Pokémon GO, almost two years ago.
I want to throw the Master Ball, but where is the bird?
I am also missing the birds in my collection – all three. Since their introduction, I have encountered Galar Articuno twice, Galar Zapdos once, and exactly zero times for Galar Moltres.
I couldn’t catch any of them. Also, because the Master Ball simply wasn’t in my collection at that time. I had decided when the Master Ball was released: As soon as I encounter a Galar bird again, I will use the Master Ball.
Since then, I haven’t seen any more. Not a single one. Despite using the adventure incense multiple times, and even during the extension through the Dialga adventure effect, I didn’t encounter any of the three again.
But we want to know: How is it for you with the Galar birds? Do you have them in your collection, or have you also had to do without them so far? Participate in our survey:
Also tell us in the comments which monsters you have, how many you possess, and what tactics you have used to find them. Do you have tips? Then share them with us!

In Pokémon GO, it is sometimes quite difficult to obtain certain Pokémon. Especially three legendary Pokémon make the hunt a lengthy affair. But now some trainers believe they have found a trick.
Which Pokémon are we talking about? The three Galar birds are the Galar forms of the three legendary Pokémon Articuno, Moltres, and Zapdos. These were added to Pokémon GO after making their debut in Pokémon Sword and Shield.
Start video
Pokémon GO: It’s time to #RediscoverGO!
In Pokémon GO, these three legendary birds are actually relatively difficult to catch. They can only appear when you are out and about and have activated the daily adventure incense. Even so, the chance of encountering one of the Galar birds remains very low.
Besides having a very low catch rate, the Galar birds also have a very high flee rate. That’s why some players even use the Master Ball when they finally encounter an Articuno, Moltres, or Zapdos. Because if the Pokémon breaks free from the ball even once, the chance of it fleeing is very high.
Is there a secret trick? In the Pokémon GO subreddit, user cutiepatatao believes he is onto a secret. He shares in his post about his experiences with the legendary birds and thinks that the places where they appear are not random at all.
He reports that one day, when he took a different route to school, he encountered both a Galar Zapdos and a Galar Articuno. At first, he thought it was just great luck and posted this on Reddit. Another user’s comment surprised him.

This user claimed to have heard that the three birds have fixed spawn points. A theory that the trainer couldn’t get out of his head and he eventually set out to investigate.
He then walked several days on different routes without encountering a single Galar bird. However, when he again took the same school route as on that lucky day, he reportedly encountered a Galar Zapdos right away.
“Either I have super good luck, which I doubt, or Galar birds really have a fixed spawn point,” the user writes in his post. He then encourages other trainers to follow up on this theory.
What do other trainers say? Some users support this theory by claiming that they have also encountered a Galar bird multiple times thanks to this trick.
Other players just ask in their comments: “You find Galar birds?” Because many players don’t seem to have come across the legendary Pokémon at all. “I’d first have to encounter my first Galar bird,” writes another trainer in his comment.
Whether it was just coincidence that this trainer encountered the birds at the same spot or not, anyone who wants to catch one of the legendary Pokémon and had no luck on the first try might just try to return to the spot of the first encounter.
Have you caught one of the Galar birds? What’s your story behind it? Feel free to write to us in the comments.
The MMORPG Chronicles of Elyria was introduced as a realistic MMORPG simulation and raised about $7.7 million from fans over the course of 3 years. However, the project failed, and the money is gone. 5 years later, the developer is upset with the foolish media.
How did he manage to raise so much money? The developer Jeremy “Caspian” Walsh always presented his MMORPG “Chronicles of Elyria” as very exciting:
It was supposed to be an MMORPG where you can age and even die
The MMORPG was supposed to be realistic; if you eat too much, you would get fat
It was supposed to be an MMORPG simulation where you can accumulate wealth and become powerful. They promised an MMORPG world where you can lead a second life

Chronicles of Elyria – Pre-Alpha Gameplay
Developer gambled away and had to shut down
What went wrong? Caspian is not a trained developer and is a blank slate in the scene. Apparently, his plan was to raise enough money through Kickstarter and from fans to develop a prototype with which he could then convince a publisher.
But that went wrong: No publisher wanted to finance the completion of his game.
When he finally went public with his prototype and showed the game, it caused general disappointment: The game was nowhere near as great as he described, appeared technically outdated and looked dreadful.
Only 4 days after the start of the alpha, Walsh closed his studio.
What happened next? The problem is that the funds from supporters are gone, and lawsuits are looming. Therefore, “Chronicles of Elyria” has been in a strange condition for years: There is no money for personnel to further develop it, but the project cannot be shut down either.
Caspian quickly reopened the studio and continued as a one-man developer.
This is the latest development: As mmorpg.com reports, Caspian has now talked for 2 hours about the game:
He wants to hire interns to further develop the game; they could count the internships towards their studies
He no longer gives out timelines, as he is alone, and it wouldn’t be worth it
He blames the US sites mmorpg.com and massivelyop for the problems: They always report negatively about him and prevent new players from supporting him.
They constantly mention that he temporarily closed the studio.
In any case, negative media is to blame for everything: As an example, he cites the negative reporting on the DLC “Lightfall” for Destiny 2.
The media should rather report that someone is trying to create something out of nothing as a small developer.
In the future, Caspian does not want to comment on the media anymore but only communicate with supporters and verify whom he is talking to. Supporters will need to provide their name, address, and phone number so that Caspian can track who he’s speaking with.
This is what lies behind it: The fundamental error with Chronicles of Elyria occurred 8 years ago. The idea of raising money to develop a prototype and then uncovering more money is extremely difficult.
Players rightly feel deceived because they thought they were giving him the money to develop an MMORPG, not a prototype to find a “real” investor.
Ultimately, it was a project that was far too ambitious and would have cost much more than he could collect through crowdfunding and the sale of virtual land. You can only succeed at that if you are Chris Roberts, not a dreamer.
It is understandable that Caspian complains about the many criticisms over the years. But anyone who has invested even a cent in his project has reason to complain as well.
Karlach is one of the most popular companions in Baldur’s Gate 3. As a Barbarian, she can deal serious damage to her opponents and is literally a powerhouse. How to get the best out of her, or even a self-created Barbarian, is explained in this guide.
Who is Karlach? Karlach belongs to the Tiefling race and can be chosen as an Origin character at the beginning of the game or later join the party as a companion.
After being sold to the archdevil Zariel, she managed to escape from hell. However, the fire of Avernus still burns within her, as a hellish machine has been placed in her heart.
What can the Barbarian do? The Barbarian class is best suited if you prefer to hit without regard for losses and prefer a somewhat simpler, straightforward build. As a classic melee class, you can deal heavy damage but also take it.
Compared to other melee classes, the Barbarian is characterized by its special wildness. He goes into a frenzy during battle and lets his rage guide him.
The Barbarian class offers three subclasses: Berserker, Wildheart, and Wild Magic. At level 3, you can choose one of these.
Among them, the Berserker class is especially worthwhile. This enhances the frenzied battle state and allows you to throw objects or perform an additional attack as a bonus action. The subclass is extremely strong and focuses on a high damage output.
Bonus: If you play as Karlach, the offensive subclass of the Berserker also fits her ability to use soul coins. This gives her the buff “Infernal Wrath,” which adds 1d4 fire damage to all attacks as long as she is in a frenzy or her health drops below 25 %.
At level 3, you choose the Berserker subclass.
Barbarian Build – Attributes
Strength, Constitution, and Dexterity are particularly important for a Barbarian. The optimal distribution for the start is:
Strength: 16
Dexterity: 14
Constitution: 16
Intelligence: 8
Wisdom: 12
Charisma: 8
The high value in Strength increases damage and the Constitution value raises health points, making Karlach an unstoppable melee fighter.
As you level up in Baldur’s Gate 3, you get the opportunity to choose special talents. These influence the character’s attributes, add spells, or abilities. You can choose talents at levels 4, 8, and 12.
Level 4
Improve abilities: 2 points in Strength
Level 8
Mastery of heavy weapons
With this talent, you can perform even more attacks. With every critical or lethal hit with a melee weapon, you gain an additional melee attack as a bonus action.
Additionally, a penalty of -5 can be added to attack rolls to increase damage by 10 on a successful hit.
Level 12
Improve abilities: 2 points in Strength
If you have already reached Strength 20 in other ways, for example through the “Potion of Everlasting Vitality,” you can of course distribute these points differently. A good alternative is the talent “Mage Slayer” for a better chance against spellcasters with long range.
All other attacks and abilities will automatically be added as you level up. No further decisions need to be made here, making the Berserker build very simple.
At level 5, for example, you get another bonus attack. From here on, Karlach really starts to strike. When in a frenzy, you already have three attacks per turn. With a “Potion of Speed,” it can even be more.
The first talent selection takes place at level 4.
Barbarian Build – Which items are worth it?
Only with the right items can a build really work well. The following items suit a Barbarian well:
Armor
For protection, you use medium armor. Helpful items include:
Talisman of the Absolute
Effect: at under 25 % health, each attack restores 1d8 hit points
Location: Priestess Gut in the Goblin Camp (Act 1)
Brute’s Ring
Effect: +3 movement speed
Location: Goblin Camp (Act 1)
Gloves of Dexterity
Effect: increases Dexterity to 18
Location: Merchant in the Y’llek Crèche (Act 2)
Amulet of Bhaal
Effect: causes bleeding in hit enemies with full health
Location: Murder Tribunal (Act 3)
You can already receive the Everglow Blade early on.
Weapons
All melee weapons that deal as much damage as possible are suitable. These mainly include large two-handed weapons. Good options for the beginning and end of the game include:
Effect: gives the wielder 1d6 hit points back on a successful attack
Location: Murder Tribunal (Act 3)
Balduran’s Giant Killer
Effect: advantage on attack rolls against at least large creatures, as well as a class action that temporarily increases damage and hit points
Location: Wyrm’s Prison (Act 3)
Additionally, make sure to always have a few throwing weapons on hand. If you need to take down enemies from a distance, these can prove to be extremely useful.
In this guide, we highlighted a pure Barbarian build. If you want, you can also use this in combination with other classes. The last levels are not as important for the Barbarian. Instead, for example, you could focus on multiclassing with Paladin or Fighter.
A “bear-strong” combination also offers a Moon Druid enriched with some levels of Barbarian. You can find this and more of the best multiclass builds here on MeinMMO: The best multiclass builds and why they are so good

Such a case was experienced by Apple customer Matt McCoy in 2008. He had to send his MacBook Air for repair because of a defective hard drive.
By replacing the storage device, McCoy lost all his data. He wrote an email to Steve Jobs, one of the three founders of Apple, and received unexpected help.

Steve Jobs provided excellent customer support
Why did the customer write directly to Steve Jobs? Apple user Matt McCoy had to leave his MacBook Air for repair at an Apple Store in 2008. The hard drive was defective and needed to be replaced.
When picking up his device, McCoy also wanted to take the broken hard drive back with him. There was still important data on the drive that he needed for a thesis. With the submission deadline only a week away, time was pressing.
The Apple Store could not help him. According to the Apple Store, the hard drive was already on its way to the manufacturer and his data was thus lost.
What happened next? Just one day later, the user received a call. It was Steve Jobs himself, who had read the customer’s email and reacted. Instead of just writing back, Jobs opted for the direct approach and picked up the phone.
Matt McCoy: Hello?
Steve Jobs: Hello Matt. This is Steve Jobs speaking. I just wanted to tell you that I received your email and we will do everything we can to ensure that you get your old hard drive repaired back.
McCoy: Wow! Thank you very much.
Steve Jobs: I will now connect you to my assistant, he will take care of you. We will get this sorted out. Please hold on.
How did he know the address of the Apple CEO? The email contact of Steve Jobs was no closely guarded secret, quite the opposite. His two addresses [email protected] and [email protected] were publicly known. Jobs enjoyed anonymity only with his car, which went without license plates.
This way, anyone who wanted to ask Jobs a question could simply send him an email. It can be assumed that countless people took advantage of this. Similarly, Gabe Newell from Valve must have experienced it, when players found out his email address and asked him for help.
In the past, some people reported receiving a response after writing to Jobs. An iPhone 4 user complained to Jobs about the “antenna gate problem”. Jobs’ reply was: “Avoid holding it that way” (via entertainment.howstuffworks.com).
Since the latest patch (14.8) in League of Legends, it seems that Draven is hated even more than before. He has been buffed and is now banned even more frequently. MyMMO reveals what’s behind this.
Draven is known for quickly dominating the bot lane. Already in the early game, he deals enormous damage with his Q (Spinning Axe). His Q is essentially just a boosted auto-attack that cannot be dodged by the opposing ADC (except for Nilah) – unlike Caitlyn’s Q, for example.
He can catch his Q (the thrown axe) again to automatically prepare a new “Spinning Axe.” He can have two Spinning Axes at the same time.
In the latest patch, Draven received a buff from Riot Games on his Q.
This is what the buff on his Q (Spinning Axe) does:
Additional normal damage: From 40/45/50/55/60 (+75/85/95/105/115% bonus attack damage) to 45/50/55/60/65 (+75/85/95/105/115% bonus attack damage)

7 Facts about LoL that only true veterans know
Why was he buffed? The reasoning given on the official LoL website is: We want to give Draven back the ability to lane bully. Draven didn’t have enough power to control the early game – which is why Riot Games buffed his Q.
This could be one of the reasons why he is currently one of the most banned champions. Even before the patch, he was already frequently banned, but with the buff, he seems to be reaching the top.
According to u.gg, he has a ban rate of at least 26.9% starting from Emerald+ (Ranked Solo), which increases further with each higher rank. In Grandmaster and Challenger rank, he is banned in almost every second game (ban rate of 51%). In Gold, he is still among the top 4 with 15.1%.
Players apparently want to avoid facing Draven in lane at all costs.
What is the reason? On Reddit, it becomes clear that this high ban rate is not necessarily due to Draven’s strength in the current meta, but also because players simply hate Draven.
We have summarized some comments for you:
One user writes: He is one of those champions you ban just to keep him out of the game. He still has a super toxic player base, so it’s a bonus if they dodge [in champ select]. […]
Dragonatis writes: […] As others say, he is just toxic, and it’s no fun to play against him.
Another user writes: His base damage is just crazy. In terms of base damage alone, he already outperforms most ADCs. […]
The top comment under the Reddit thread about Draven reads: I don’t even know if he is really good at the moment. I just hate him. It seems that his playstyle and abilities frustrate many players. His ability to dominate the lane quickly makes him an unpleasant opponent – especially when he falls into the hands of an experienced player.
Strong snowball potential and lots of damage
With his passive, he accumulates stacks when he catches his Q, destroys a tower, or kills minions or monsters. The more stacks he has, the more bonus gold he receives when he kills an enemy champion. The stacks are consumed once he has killed someone. This allows him to gain an advantage, even more so if he is already dominating. If Draven dies himself, he loses stacks.
He has enormous snowball potential, plus a bit of movement speed and a small knockback (CC), allowing him to interrupt skills – overall a strong package.
Now it’s your turn: What do you think? Does Draven annoy you? Or perhaps you have another champion who is your personal archenemy? Feel free to let us know in the comments.
In an interview, a producer of Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga mentioned that filming an action sequence took a whole 78 days – even though it lasts only 15 minutes in the movie.
With Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, director George Miller shines a light on the backstory of the iconic character from the previous Mad Max films.
Played by Anya Taylor-Joy, Furiosa tries to return home and escape the horde of Warlord Dementus (played by Chris Hemsworth) while a power struggle is raging.
Particularly much effort was invested in one scene, as producer Doug Mitchell shared in an interview with Total Film.

German Trailer for Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga
“It is the longest sequence we have ever shot”
According to Doug Mitchell, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga has a 15-minute film sequence that required the team a total of 78 shooting days. In addition, around 200 stunt performers were involved daily to realize the scene.
During the production, the film segment was dubbed “The Stairway to Nowhere” and represents an important moment for the character Furiosa, in which her entire character with all its facets as well as her abilities are presented.
Furiosa actress Anya Taylor-Joy also commented on this important film moment and said:
George and I often talked about why this particular set piece was so long. This is because, in the course of a fight, you see a buildup of skills, and that is very important to understand how resourceful Furiosa is, but also to show her courage.
As she further recounted, there was a special reward at the end, once the scene was finally wrapped: “It is the longest sequence we have ever shot. On the day we finished, everyone received a ‘Stairway To Nowhere’ wine!”
What exactly happens in the scene has not been revealed in the interview.
When will Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga be released? From May 23, 2024, you can watch the film in German cinemas.
In another interview, director George Miller explained why he chose the two actors Anya Taylor-Joy and Chris Hemsworth for his two major roles as Furiosa and Dementus:
Tim Cain, the creator of the game Fallout, expressed his opinion on the new series based on the well-known game franchise on Amazon Prime and defended it against criticism from fans.
On his YouTube channel, Timothy Cain published a review of the Fallout series yesterday. He enthusiastically commented on the video game adaptation and cannot understand the criticism from some fans at all.

This is why the Fallout creator likes the series
Tim Cain clearly stated that he likes the series. The game developer enthusiastically commented on how well it captures the feel of the games and said: “It’s easy to write post-apocalyptic material that doesn’t fit the Fallout mold.”
He also positively noted that the three main characters felt like three different types of players.
Lucy feels like a player who innocently looks into the game for the first time and wants to be good, while Maximus is much more focused on himself and achieving his own goals. He referred to the ghoul as the Murder Hobo in the player community.
You can watch the entire review on YouTube by Tim Cain, but beware, there are spoilers for the series:

What the creator thinks about deviations from the games
Tim Cain also addressed the current discussions regarding the timeline and deviations from the game lore.
The main concern is that Shady Sands has already been destroyed in the series, which fans claim does not align with the lore in Fallout: New Vegas. You can read more about this discussion here with our colleagues from GameStar.
Tim Cain reacted calmly and provided his own explanation for why he believes deviations in the narrative can occur:
“Perhaps the data is wrong, either in the games or in the series,” Cain speculated, reminding that “Fallout has a story in many games where people tell you things that are not true.”
As he further mentioned, it is normal to have small differences in the various stories within well-known franchises, as “lore deviation is inevitable with major IPs.” He used Star Wars as an example.
Moreover, he thinks it is difficult to find a “correct” ending in games like New Vegas, where the conclusions are open-ended, and we as viewers do not know which elements from the games the series creators have chosen for their narrative.
In conclusion, he calmly stated about all the discussions: “I’m no longer responsible for it, and neither are you. Basically, everything Bethesda does from now on is canon.”
The new construction game Manor Lords is now the most desired game on Steam. In the past, the gameplay has often been compared to other titles. The developer makes clear statements to clarify this. Players should know what to expect.
What game are we talking about? Manor Lords is a new strategy and building game on Steam that has been at the top of the most desired games on the platform for some time now. It is also enjoying great success on Twitch and even excites two of the biggest German streamers.
Manor Lords is set to be released on Steam on April 26, 2024.

Manor Lord Release Date Trailer
Especially strategy fans are looking forward to the new title and have high hopes for the gameplay and the various mechanics. In addition to very free design of your cities and classic strategy gameplay, Manor Lords also offers combat gameplay, which reminds many players, including Maurice Weber, of Total War.
Developer explains what players should really expect
What does the developer say about it? With this and other comparisons, the developer wants to clarify once again just before the release. On Steam, he directly addressed interested players to make it clear what Manor Lords is not, and explains why he chose Early Access.
“Manor Lords is not a competitor to Total War,” emphasizes solo developer Greg Styczen first. “It is a city builder with battles,” he continues, adding that while battles are part of the game, they are not as large and frequent as some players might expect. The focus of the gameplay remains on city building and management.
He also prepares players for the scale of the game, stating that while there will be different regions, players will not be able to conquer all of Europe. Players will not build a whole empire here. Instead, Manor Lords is meant to be much smaller.
Styczen also comments on the comparison with titles like Kingdom Come: Deliverance. “It is also not an RPG,” he explains and then refers to the “Visit Mode,” which is supposed to allow players to view their cities up close from a first-person perspective. This is more of an experiment and bonus feature. However, Manor Lords will mainly be played from a classic top-down perspective. “There will be no first-person gameplay,” said Styczen.
Manor Lords is primarily intended to be a relaxed strategy and building game, focusing its mechanics on aesthetics, resources, and management. Styczen hopes that players will learn to love Manor Lords for what it is: a realistic, organic, and authentic city builder with real-time battles.
Why Early Access? Styczen also commented on his decision to publish Manor Lords in Early Access, as this might be disappointing for some. However, he still wishes for a development with open communication between him and the players. Not least because this has worked well so far, but also because it is his first game.
Some things are still not finished, and he suspects that players will have some requests for changes. Therefore, he considers Early Access to be the right decision.
At this time, Styczen does not want to publish a roadmap. What is more important to him is the philosophy: listen, check, implement, rather than dictate what should happen in the future. First, he and publisher Hooded Horse want to wait for player feedback and then decide which goals take priority.
Whether future tests will be open or closed has also not been definitively decided yet. One idea is that players who already own the game can participate in the “Pre-Release Beta,” which could naturally be less stable.
When the people in charge at NCSoft announced during the investors’ conference in March that they were working on Guild Wars 3, MeinMMO editor Karsten Scholz’s wife danced in a circle out of joy. The MMORPG series from Arenanet has some strengths that no other online role-playing game offers in this form.
Right off the bat: Not only my wife Susanne was excited about the announcement of Guild Wars 3. I would also love to explore a modern version of Tyria. However, she is the much more passionate fan of the entire series, while I have “only” logged considerable playtime in Guild Wars 2.
However, it is true for both of us that we appreciate the MMORPG from Arenanet because of some strengths that are simply unmatched anywhere else. At the same time, you can tell that the current installment of the series shows its age and the comparatively low budget of recent years. But one step at a time.
Oh, beautiful Tyria
I still vividly remember how Guild Wars 2 blew me away with its audiovisual quality during the pre-launch in August 2012. The fantasy world of Tyria, which was previously unknown to me, seemed as if it had sprung directly from a painting. The entire interface, the infinitely zoomable map, and all the effects seamlessly blended into this unique style.
Along with the beautiful reflections in the water, the detailed models, and the impressive panoramas – I felt completely at home in Divinity’s Reach and all the other places in Tyria. So much so that I developed serious wanderlust during the first years when I lacked the time for Guild Wars 2 for weeks or even months.
Mounts like the Sky Scale are among the highlights of Guild Wars 2:

Guild Wars and the best mounts in the genre
If you ask my wife about her best Guild Wars memory, she will rave about the titular Guild Wars of the first installment. About the camaraderie of the community, the exciting PvP battles, the hard-earned successes on the guild world ranking list, and the shared moments in the guild hall.
We are both big fans of the fantastic mounts that have been introduced over the years in Guild Wars 2. The currently nine mounts differ significantly from each other, noticeably enhance the player experience, and feel wonderfully “real”. For us, GW2 still offers the best mount system of all MMORPGs.
The World versus World system of Guild Wars 2 was never as much fun as hoped.
The curse of missing success
Overall, Guild Wars 2 is still a solid representative of the genre today, which can be wonderfully enjoyed as a second MMORPG or for casual players with little time, thanks to horizontal progression. The wonderful mounts are the cherry on top.
However, the visuals of Tyria have become dusty despite the artistic style. Unlike Blizzard with WoW, Arenanet did not have the money to continuously modernize the engine or to release extensive expansions every two years.
On the contrary, large content updates that affect (almost) all areas of the game have been in short supply for years. Nearly five years passed between Path of Fire and End of Dragons. The most recent expansion, Secrets of the Obscure, offers only a fraction of what Heart of Thorns brought. Specifically, all fans of PvP and raids had to struggle through harsh drought periods.
Potential for Part 3
The restart with a third installment could address these signs of aging and at the same time tackle some of the other issues of Guild Wars 2. For example, my wife still does not understand why the titular Guild Wars and associated features were removed for the sequel. At the same time, the WvWvW replacement never really excited us.
Dungeons have always been hectic in GW2. Almost everyone just wants to get through quickly.
It would also be great if the designers would make dungeon content more accessible and less toxic. The attached dungeons of WoW and the “Side by Side” system from Final Fantasy XIV demonstrate how this can work: with instances that can optionally be completed with a team of AI fighters.
Long story short: We would love to see a Guild Wars 3 that builds on the strengths of the first two installments, eliminates the weaknesses of GW2, and throws us into a modernized Tyria full of new content. What do you think?
If you want to take a shot and try Guild Wars 2 in 2024, you can find countless guides, tips, and aids for getting started in the following article:
A player in Baldur’s Gate 3 broke his Honour-Run, but only realized it after a few long rests. MeinMMO reveals what happened.
What is the Honour Mode? In Baldur’s Gate 3, the Honour Mode is a tough challenge that tests you. Every little mistake can ruin your run. Save scumming is not an option, and the bosses have powerful Legendary Actions that pose significant challenges.
A player on Reddit ventured into the Solo Honour Run with the goal of challenging himself and his skills in the hardest way possible. Everything was going great for him until he encountered the fish people with Gale.
Spoiler: The article contains spoilers about Gale’s story and Act 1.

3 Tips to Reduce Your Carrying Weight in Baldur’s Gate 3
Better not sacrifice Gale
How did he ruin his run? The player mc_lil_bizz recruited Gale, primarily for the extra experience, and left him at camp for the most part. When he finally arrived at the BOOOAL, he made a fateful decision: he decided to sacrifice Gale because he found him annoying and wanted the buff.
If you offer a sacrifice to BOOOAL, one of your companions dies and stays permanently dead. In return, you receive a permanent buff that gives you an advantage on attack rolls against bleeding targets.
However, he probably did not anticipate the consequences. Calmly, he continued playing his Honour Run – feeling that everything was fine.
Ticking time bomb
What happened next? Gale’s projection appears to you and urges you to resurrect him within 2 days (2 long rests). He warns you emphatically: Many lives depend on his return to the living.
But due to BOOAL, he cannot be resurrected and remains permanently dead. On the third day, an explosion occurs due to the destruction sphere in his chest. He explodes, killing and destroying everything – goodbye, Honour Run.
What is the deal with BOOOAL? You can encounter the Kuo-Toa at a hidden location in the Underdark (X: 75, Y: -240) and interact with them to become the fish god. The Kuo-Toa have created their god named BOOOAL, who is actually a regular redcap. However, due to the worship of the Kuo-Toa, he has become significantly stronger.
You also have the option to convince the Kuo-Toa through successful skill checks that BOOOAL is not a real god. If you then defeat him, you can be named a god by the Kuo-Toa. Another option is to fight for BOOOAL. As a reward, you receive a sickle with the same effect as the aforementioned buff – but the buff is tied to the weapon.
To protect children and adolescents from violence and pornography, many countries have enacted laws that censor animes. However, besides the country in question, the localization team also has the opportunity to make cuts and changes to the original material. We present to you five changes in Naruto that caused more confusion than they helped.
What examples are shown here? Naruto is one of the animes that has been cut the most on RTLZWEI. The German TV version of Naruto has caused more confusion among many editors at the MeinMMO editorial team than it has helped, as well as among many fans. The version that aired in the afternoon on RTLZWEI had numerous cuts and changes that sometimes altered the overall context.
MeinMMO has selected some examples for you where the changes in the anime were not understandable to us. Therefore, we have not listed examples in which blood, bare skin, or sexual practices were censored, as they are meant to protect minors.

Zabusa threatens with a sword handle
Zabusa is an opponent that Naruto encounters right at the beginning of the anime. To tone down the weapon violence, RTLZWEI decided to cut some animations featuring Zabusa’s gigantic sword. So far, so good.
However, in some shots, we still see Zabusa’s sword – or at least what is left of it. He threatens another character with the handle of his sword, from which the blade has been removed.
You can see the sword stub in the following YT video by Mr X:

The scene didn’t seem very threatening to me in my childhood, and I wondered why the character should be afraid of a sword stub.
A random lip touch or romantic kiss?
In episode 3 of Naruto, there is a kiss between Naruto and Sasuke. It is merely an accident, as one of the students pushes the kneeling Naruto from behind. This causes him to fall forward and land with his lips on Sasuke’s mouth.
In Germany, nothing of this was shown – the watching girls wondered about something, but we never found out why. We don’t really see what was so bad about a kiss mishap between Naruto and Sasuke that it had to be cut.
The romance is not felt here.
The kiss is not romantic or erotic in nature, but rather a funny accident. Viewers of the RTLZWEI version never found out what the group of girls in the Ninja Academy was so astonished about.

Daniel Radcliffe, the actor who portrayed the famous book character Harry Potter in eight films, explained on a late-night show why many children are not excited at all when they meet their idol in real life.
In this context, he also addressed his well-known role and explained why young fans of Harry Potter are totally disappointed when they meet him nowadays.
Here you can see a trailer for the first Harry Potter film with Daniel Radcliffe:

German trailer for Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone
“This man is old”
The host mentioned in the conversation that he told his own children that the Harry Potter star was a guest and asked if they wanted to see him – a prompt no was the answer.
The reason for this was that Daniel Radcliffe no longer corresponds to the age of his film character and therefore does not look like the Harry Potter from the movies anymore.
The actor began his career as a child star at the age of 11 and essentially grew up alongside his character. The last film in the series, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2, was released in 2011, which was 13 years ago.
In this YouTube video you can watch the interview yourself:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cRWMec5RJAo
The 34-year-old star took it with humor and said in response to a question that many young Harry Potter fans react very dejected when they meet him.
He further explained:
It often tends to be deeply disappointed, especially when it comes to very young children who probably have only seen the first one or two movies.
So they have a parent around my age saying, “That’s Harry Potter!” And the child says: “That’s not him! This man is old.“
Yeah, I think that’s the effect I have on many children.
World of Warcraft is full of bugs – no wonder, after 20 years a lot accumulates. We present the 5 most absurd bugs and glitches here.
With nearly 20 years of lifespan, World of Warcraft has experienced a lot. From the good old “Vanilla” version to the current expansion “Dragonflight”, the game has constantly evolved, improved, and changed.
However, these changes brought problems from time to time. Bugs, exploits, and glitches occasionally crept into the game, causing curious incidents that many WoW veterans still remember today with a broad grin or nostalgic smile.
We want to present five of these strange errors here.
1. XP loss – character levels backwards
In MMORPGs from the last decades, there were often various mechanics for punishment. One of the most annoying of these types: the loss of gained experience points, which could sometimes even reverse a level-up.
World of Warcraft consciously decided against such punishing mechanics at release, which dulled the gaming experience. Nevertheless, at least one player has had the experience that his character suddenly lost multiple levels.
Shrunk instead of grown – this happened to a hero.
We are talking about Saurzan, and the bug occurred shortly after the launch of Patch 8.0. Saurzan wanted to participate in some PvP battlegrounds to level his character from level 98 to 99.
However, that didn’t quite work out. When Saurzan returned to Orgrimmar from the first battleground, he couldn’t believe his eyes. His mage had not reached level 99 – but had fallen back to level 94.
This also led to the curious situation that the character wore armor that he couldn’t even use because it had a higher level requirement. The corresponding armor was marked in red and thus “inactive”.
Blizzard was able to quickly fix the error and restore the correct level – but this mage is likely the only one who has ever actively “leveled backwards”.
2. Players could tame druids
Another bug revolves around druids. Although Shadowlands is certainly not remembered as the most popular expansion in WoW history, it did create some notable memories.
One of them occurred shortly after the launch of the first raid “Castle Nathria.” Here you could obtain a very special necklace from the boss “Hunter Altimor.”
The necklace could tame druids.
The necklace allowed the wearer to control numerous wild animals in the open world via mind control and thus have a companion by their side for a few minutes to assist in battle. A fitting reward for a fight against a beastmaster.
What the developers apparently overlooked: The trinket was applicable to all animals.
Druids tamed – a long dream of hunters became briefly true.
“All animals” meant in this case also druids in animal form. If you were in a duel with a druid or encountered a member of the other faction, you could tame these players. They would then lose control of their character and follow the user of the necklace faithfully.
Blizzard noticed and fixed the error a few hours after the raid opened. But for a few hours, players could make druids their subjects.
3 more curious incidents and bugs are on page 2.
This is an AI-powered translation. Some inaccuracies might exist.
The trailer for a new game on Steam has already convinced MeinMMO author Linda Knabe with a single detail.
What game is this about? Amber Isle is a game from the indie studio Ambertail Games, based in Northern Ireland, that wants to offer you a relaxed mix of simulation and role-playing in this game. Topped off with cute dinosaurs.
The game is being published by Team17, who have also released Overcooked, Dredge, and Moving Out. However, there is still no official release date. Amber Isle is expected to be available on Steam and the Nintendo Switch.
In the trailer, you can catch a glimpse of the world and inhabitants of Amber Isle, as well as the gameplay that awaits you in the game:
Start video
In Amber Isle, you begin your new life as a sweet dino
Why does Amber Isle excite me? The trailer for Amber Isle actually convinced me within the first few seconds. Because I guess I’m relatively simple-minded: I see cute dinos, I want cute dinos!
Who is writing here? MeinMMO author Linda Knabe loves to spend her time in “cozy” games like Animal Crossing, Stardew Valley, or Spiritfarer.
Amber Isle convinces me more with every second
The more I’ve seen of the game, the more excited I was about the whole concept. And not just because the dinos look incredibly cute when they run or wobble along with their big butts and little arms.
In Amber Isle, you create your own dino according to your ideas and then take over a small shop on the island. At this time, only three inhabitants, the so-called Paleos, live on the island and your goal is to rebuild everything properly.
Along the way, you meet your new neighbors. On the island, not only small dinosaurs live. Ice age mammals, sea creatures, or amphibians also inhabit Amber Isle:
48 different Paleos live on the island
Each resident has their own personality, preferences, and quests
Build relationships with them for new upgrades and recipes
The residents can open their own stalls, cafes, or gardens on Amber Isle
As the trailer shows, you then gather resources on the island and use them to expand your shop, build new items for sale or help further develop the island. By getting to know your customers, you’ll learn what items they need and will buy.
In sales, you will then even have to negotiate with your customers to squeeze out the best possible profit. Although one should probably not forget customer satisfaction.
Besides your shop, as mentioned, you also help to further expand the island. You can not only unlock new areas and thereby increase the size of the island but also need to decorate it with new paths, plants, and other things. Because the friendlier the island seems, the more Paleos will settle there permanently.
The trailer already convinced me. But after I got a little involved with the game, I realized that it sounds like a great alternative when the gameplay of Animal Crossing becomes boring again.
