Blizzard has released some background information with the announcement of the Overwatch character Soldier 76. These provide not only insights into the new fighter but also into the entire organization Overwatch.
Once a hero of the people, now its scourge?
Jack Morrison was for over two decades the leader of Overwatch, an organization that acted as a kind of global police force, establishing peace and prosperity in all countries and protecting people from the destruction caused by the Omnic crisis. Overwatch gave a whole generation the certainty that true heroes still exist and that everyone fundamentally wants to do good. Especially Morrison was seen as the figurehead of the organization and was admired, loved, and idolized by all.

Morrison is said to have been buried 6 years ago, but no one has ever seen his corpse.
