Information and screenshots about weapons have appeared in Destiny 2. These include mods, shaders, and special perks.
Yesterday, a pre-event for the Destiny 2 beta took place in London: the “Virgin Media D2 Beta Experience”. Selected guardians were able to play the beta, such as Reddit user “EireneRR4_”.
“EireneRR4_” reports about this experience. The game feels fantastic and looks great. Furthermore, the user goes into detail about the weapons in Destiny 2, as they could be inspected for the first time. A screenshot of that has already surfaced online:
Mods and Shaders in Destiny 2
During the gameplay premiere in May, screenshots of the weapons showed “mod slots”. However, since the weapons could not be inspected back then, it was not very useful.
The weapon mods are now displayed on the bottom left in the above image:
- On the far left is the mod slot. This is where you can upgrade the weapon with a mod.
- Next to it is the shader slot. Here you can apply a shader to your weapon.
- If the weapon has elemental damage, there is a third slot between these slots, according to EireneRR4_, which indicates the elemental damage.
In Destiny 1 there are neither mods nor shaders. Only exotic weapons can change their appearance with “ornaments”. In Destiny 2, more weapons can apparently be customized – as all weapons shown with shaders were legendary weapons.
“Intrinsic” Perks
At the end of June, we reported on a statement from Game Director Luke Smith: There will be no more random rolls on the weapons. If the same weapon drops twice, it will always have the same perks.
However, this is not entirely true, according to EireneRR4_. In the upper image, the three right perk columns are fixed. They will always be the same with every drop. However, there is a perk on the left that is random.
A weapon could have the “intrinsic perk” that makes it a better all-round weapon. Another drop of the same weapon might have a perk that enhances the weapon’s range.
In short: This intrinsic perk seems to bring variety to the drops of the same weapon. The community feared after Smith’s statement that the loot could quickly become boring due to the fixed perks. However, together with the weapon mods, these seem to be more customizable than assumed.
Keep in mind that this is not official information. Once the beta starts, we can inspect the weapons ourselves.
