The balance in Overwatch is a major problem in the community. Does it cater to the pros or the “casuals”?
Although Overwatch is basically a solid game, there are always some issues that the community encounters. One of them is the balance of the game, as it seems Blizzard is not following a clear line.
Whose balance policy is Blizzard following? The pros? Or the “casuals”?
The user unampho sparked a discussion in the official Overwatch forum, which gained a lot of traction. Ultimately, even Jeff Kaplan, the Game Director of Overwatch, chimed in and explained Blizzard’s position:
“I have seen so many posts in this forum accusing us from both sides; that we align balance only according to the pros or only according to the casuals.
Both views are massively exaggerated simplifications of how we actually arrive at our solutions. We feel responsible for all aspects of the game. And when we talk about balance changes, we discuss a lot how it affects all levels of the game. We are not blind to either side and will continue to represent both. Some decisions are more aimed at one group than the other – but always with long considerations of what that means for the other side.”
Players are disappointed by Kaplan’s views
The hoped clarification from this post by Kaplan did not materialize. Most players agree (at least in the forum) that balance should only cater to the pros. Because only then can Overwatch establish itself as an eSport title.
For instance, the buffs to Winston and nerfs to Roadhog seem completely unnecessary to many “pros”. These overpowered and underpowered characters are the reason why “more and more professional teams are throwing in the towel”.
Cortyn says: The discussion is difficult. Especially since most players are “casuals” – and that probably includes the majority of readers and me as well. The discussion has taken on a messy “Us (pros) against the others (casuals)” character, while most players seem to forget that they themselves belong to the casuals.
Nonetheless, I also believe that the balance should be more oriented towards the best players. Because only then do I have an incentive to get better – to be able to master characters I currently struggle with.
What should the balance of a game be based on? Pros? Casuals? A healthy mix of both?
In PVE of Destiny 2 players will have something to do after they finish the campaign.
In the expansion to Destiny 1 “The Taken King”, players were surprised that additional quest lines appeared after the main campaign ended.
They can expect the same in Destiny 2. As made clear in Bungie’s new video with IGN, there are “World Quests” in Destiny 2.
World Quests – Failsafe, Artificial Intelligence without Crew
World Quests are “quest series” that are interconnected and only appear after the main campaign is completed. They are multi-part quests that highlight an area.
We do not yet know exactly how many of these World Quests will be in Destiny 2. But it sounds like there will be more than one – perhaps one per area. In the current video with IGN, a World Quest about “Failsafe” is presented.
This is an artificial intelligence, similar to the Ghost. Failsafe belonged to a ship that crashed on the planet Nessus. The quest revolves around the story of the abandoned AI and its crew.
The World Quests are designed to lead players back into an area they have already completed, to shed light on new aspects of the zone and delve deeper into its story.
Landing Points – Reclaiming the World, Piece by Piece
Landing Points seem to be a kind of “waypoint” system in Destiny 2. The further you progress into an area, the more landing points the Guardian unlocks.
This is meant to enhance the sense of adventure, as Guardians gradually unlock an area as they complete side quests.
These are essentially “sub-zones.” There will also be more to do here once the main quest is completed.
Flashpoint – A Zone is Always Something Special
With Flashpoints, a “destination”, a zone in Destiny 2, is selected.
Flashpoints are a weekly activity that anyone can participate in, in the open world. They make a zone something special:
Flashpoint basically says: “Make Public Events in this zone” and you get a special reward for it.
Cayde-6 also sells treasure maps every week. The treasure is always located in the zone that is currently the Flashpoint.
There is also a series of secret bosses that can only be activated when the zone is “Flashpoint”. They are usually tied to public events, if you activate the heroic mode, a secret boss may still appear – provided the zone is currently “Flashpoint.”

Fortnite is currently available for purchase, but the colorful survival shooter is actually planned as a free-to-play game. So why does Fortnite cost so much right now and what is the deal with Early Access and the PvP mode? Here you will find all the information about Fortnite’s payment system
Fortnite excites many players but causes confusion. Everything currently indicates that the colorful coop shooter from Epic Games is not free, but a Buy2Play title that you buy once and then play without restrictions.
After all, Fortnite is currently also available as a box version starting at 39.00 euros on Amazon and in computer specialty stores. So is this already the full version as offered in the PlayStation Store?
However, the matter is a bit more complicated …
Curious image at Fortnite on Amazon: Only in the product description is vaguely mentioned an “Early Access package”. The same picture at Media Markt.
Fortnite – Buy2Play in Early Access, free at release
In reality, Fortnite is a free-to-play game that is funded by microtransactions. However, this payment model will only be fully implemented at the final launch of Fortnite. The release is, according to a blog entry by a developer from Epic Games, planned for sometime in 2018.
However, you can already make microtransactions for real money and buy real currency. This “V-Bucks” can also be earned in the game for completing certain tasks.
Content and purchase of founder packages
On the Epic Games homepage, founder packages for Fortnite are available. These are priced at 39,–, 59,–, 89,–, and 149,– euros. Each package grants full access to the game and offers additional goodies such as blueprints, storage, and heroes depending on the value.
Source: PS Store: “To play Fortnite, a founder package is needed. The Early Access season begins on July 25”
Early Access packages at Amazon, Media Markt, and others
At Amazon and computer specialty stores like Media Markt and others, there are Early Access packages as boxes. These cost 39.00 euros for PC and Xbox One, but 59.00 euros for PS4. However, the content is the same across all platforms and corresponds to a “Deluxe Founder Pack,” which also costs 59.00 euros on the Fortnite homepage. Therefore, PC and Xbox players get them cheaper.
That it is an Early Access version or package can be found out from dealers and in the PS Store only in the product description behind strange marketing jargon. There are no indications that the game is still in development or will be available as a free-to-play title in 2018.
Free PvP? Is the Battle Royale mode really free2play?
After PC players of the online action game Warframe have enjoyed the content of the current update since the end of June, console users can now also experience Chains of Harrow.
The update introduces Warframe players to an exciting new mission. This is inspired by horror movies. You receive a mysterious message from Palladino, the spiritual medium of the Red Veil.
This message leads you to a mysterious Steel Meridian spaceship, which appears to be abandoned. Everywhere you find the bodies of the dead crew members. However, there is also an eerie whispering in the halls of the ship. You must find out what happened here and uncover the machinations of the Red Veil.
A new Warframe with many powers
Chains of Harrow also introduces the new Warframe “Harrow”. With this, you use the powers of the Void to strengthen the defense and attack of allies. You can also use these powers:
Condemn – An energy wave holds your enemies back. Each marked enemy leads to a boost of Harrow’s shields.
Penance – You sacrifice shields for the benefit of reload and rate of fire. Additionally, damage you deal to your enemies is converted into health for Harrow and nearby allies.
Thurible – You can channel Harrow’s energy in the thurible to create a boost. The more energy is channeled, the longer the boost lasts. You receive additional energy for headshots.
Covenant – You protect nearby allies with an energy field. This not only absorbs damage, but you also receive a bonus to critical hit chance.
This and much more comes with the Chains of Harrow update for everyone playing the online shooter Warframe on PS4 or Xbox One.

Survarium is referred to by fans as the online S.T.A.L.K.E.R. And it is slowly becoming a rounded game. The latest update introduced the first PvE mission.
Survarium has so far been a PvP online shooter with an interesting backstory. Nature is reclaiming the world, and people must try to survive. Anomalies appear unexpectedly and can have severe consequences.
The story is somewhat reminiscent of the action RPG series S.T.A.L.K.E.R. No wonder, as part of the developers from S.T.A.L.K.E.R. are working on Survarium. Their ambitions are high: Survarium is meant to become an online S.T.A.L.K.E.R. at some point.
PvE serves as a tutorial
The previous PvP battles on several maps have now been expanded with the first PvE mission in the current update.
The mission takes you to a new area and serves as a tutorial. You will be introduced to the game world before you can fight each other. The developers also encourage all veterans to play this mission. This way, they can learn more about the story and get a sense of how future story missions will unfold.
New PvP mode, more maps and more
Because the team is already planning more co-op missions to be introduced in the foreseeable future.
The update also introduces the “Slaughter” mode, which essentially offers fast team deathmatch on small maps. Improved animations for healing, two new weapons, and five variations of existing maps are also included. Additionally, a lot of balancing adjustments and bug fixes made their way into the game.
The fans are showing a positive attitude since they can finally see with update 0.47 that Survarium is moving in the direction that was announced five years ago: to create an online S.T.A.L.K.E.R.

As subscribers of the Xbox service “Games with Gold”, you receive a selection of free games every month that you can download. The rotation includes games from various genres: from single-player classics to multiplayer shooters, there is plenty of choice.
The official announcement for Games with Gold in August has not yet been released. A leak now claims to already know which four games will be included in the free offer.
Free games in August 2017? – Leak for Xbox One and Xbox 360
Free games for the Xbox service “Games with Gold” or the PlayStation service “PS Plus” are often leaked before the official announcement. This time, the flyer with the four games for Xbox comes from a Spanish website.
According to the leak, the following Xbox One games will be free for Games with Gold subscribers in August:
Assassin’s Creed: Chronicles – India – From August 1 to August 31: A part of the AC Chronicles series. Here you play as “Arbaaz Mir” in 1841 in the Sikh Empire.
Firewatch – From August 16 to September 15: Firewatch is an adventure with an exciting story. Your choices affect the narrative.
Additionally, there are two games for the Xbox 360. Due to backward compatibility, players on Xbox One can also play the games for Xbox 360.
Condemned: Criminal Origins from August 1 to August 15: In this action-adventure, you take on the role of an FBI agent who is on the trail of a serial killer.
Forza Horizon 2 from August 16 to August 31: An open-world racing simulation that takes you through France and Italy.

Since this is a leak and not an official announcement, you should take the information with caution. There is no guarantee yet that these will actually be the four free games in August 2017.
In the MMO shooter Destiny 2 Bungie introduced dynamic events, Adventures, and Lost Sectors. This is what you can do in the zones of Destiny 2 in PvE.
New information about Destiny 2. Although the beta is still ongoing, the “reveals” from the US site IGN keep coming.
During a tour of the new zone on Nessus, there is fresh information from Bungie about the outdoor activities. It’s about what you do in your everyday life in the zones.
This is where Bungie wants to significantly improve Destiny 2.
Public Events – Heroic Mode
Destiny 2 will offer more Public Events than ever before. They have incorporated some old events but added many new ones.
Bungie has drawn inspiration from elements in Destiny 1, such as the “Court of Oryx.” However, they do not want to have “a fixed location” per zone where everything gathers, but to distribute the events throughout the zones in Destiny 2. Bungie refers to the zones as “Destinations.”
Each event has a bonus that can be activated to trigger a hard mode of the event, a Heroic Event. This will involve more enemies or bosses.
Adventures – Fully Voiced Side Quests
Adventures are similar to side quests in Destiny 1. They tell a story and are fully voiced.
The Adventures are relatively quick, self-contained, and there are no load screens.
Lost Sectors – Loot Cave, but Correctly
Lost Sectors are basically “caves” or “structures”; Bungie wondered: Wouldn’t it be cool if something exciting was waiting for the Guardians inside?
At first, they thought: “Maybe a small cave with a treasure inside, and players would be happy to discover it.”
Then they thought further: “What if it begins as a cave, and then players realize that it’s a tunnel system with a large boss at the end, and if they defeat him, there’s a treasure?”
It is meant to be that the Guardian recognizes a sign on the main path, indicating: “There is a Lost Sector nearby.” Then they should go hunt for the entrance.
New Terms for Old Concepts, but Finally Something to Do
Mein MMO says: The ideas here are not new but have predecessors. Bungie calls everything “new” to make clear: “This is our version of it.” They have always done it this way: Destinations are zones, and Strikes are instances. But Bungie likes to call things differently.
“Adventures” seem to simply be side quests – with a cool name.
The Public Events are events; they didn’t accidentally come up with a cool name in Destiny 1 and are sticking with it now.
The “Lost Sectors” are known from games like “The Elder Scrolls Online” – that’s a classic RPG element: a dungeon. That’s how all dungeons were before instancing came. Lost Sectors are dungeons you need to find and walk to, while Strikes get you conveniently teleported.
But this should not be seen as mockery. It’s good that Bungie focuses on such “MMORPG” elements to further develop Destiny 2.

41 new MMOs, MMORPGs, coop shooters, and MOBAs are planned for 2017 and 2018. Rarely have so many online games been waiting for release. You can find out which new releases you can look forward to this year and next in our release list of “upcoming MMOs”.
And so the release lists of the major publishers are filled with online games. Over 30 games, from classic online role-playing games to action MMOs, online shooters, and MOBAs, are waiting for their release date and curious players. Many indie studios are also pushing hard in the concert of the big players. It is especially noticeable that many games from the MMORPG genre are appearing, often promising a return to old sandbox virtues. For example, Legends of Aria (formerly known as Shards Online), which is reminiscent of Ultima Online, or the PvP sandboxes Camelot Unchained and Crowfall.
Another trend is towards action MMOs. Here, especially Asian top titles like Mu Legend, Lineage Eternal, or Lost Ark stand out. Upcoming mobile MMOs like ArcheAge Begins and Lineage 2 Revolution, which are particularly popular in Asia and are also highly anticipated in the West, also exhibit similar gameplay.
Bless, Pantheon, Destiny 2 – These new MMOs are coming in 2017 and 2018
Note: Many MMORPGs are being developed today as “indie” titles by small teams in constant communication with the community, without the support of large studios. These games do NOT rely on a classic “release model” but follow a “launch in stages” approach with alpha and beta phases. We have also included these titles in our release list. This is not about a “specific release date”, but rather the question: When is it reasonable to play in an early version?
The following list shows the online games that are expected to be released this year or next year.
Oops, unfortunately this table is no longer available.
MMO Releases 2017 / 2018: The new highlights
Among these games are a few titles that are particularly interesting. You should definitely keep an eye on the following games this year and next year.
Star Citizen
When exactly Chris Roberts’ space epic Star Citizen will be released is completely unclear. The first version contains, according to Roberts, only the basics without many of the stretch goals. But even without the extras, there should be plenty to do in Star Citizen, allowing players to fight, trade, smuggle, explore, and research as a space pilot in a vast universe. Currently, Star Citizen is running as an alpha build.
Crowfall
Lineage Eternal
ArcheAge Begins
PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds
The online shooter PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds revolves around one game mode: Battle Royale! Ideally, 100 players land on a deserted island, gather weapons, and kill each other. To prevent players from camping for too long, the play area steadily shrinks due to a deadly energy wall. Alternatively, you can play PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds in duo mode or in teams of four, which radically changes the gameplay experience. PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is currently available on PC in early access. The full launch is expected at the end of 2017, at which point the Xbox version and later the PS4 version will also be released.
Note: The article was originally published in May 2017. It was updated in July 2017 with new information.
Now Mionee has released another video and added another layer to it. This time it’s in the Court of Stars at the dizzying level of Mythic +19.
Court of Stars Mythic +19 – Also doable solo (for one player in the world)
Where the average player fails even with a decent group and throws in the towel, the keyboard, and perhaps even the monitor out the window after an hour, Mionee remains persistent. After more than six hours, she succeeds in completing the dungeon.

Anyone who thinks they could achieve this feat should prove it first. The bosses have over a proud 500 million HP and hit so hard that any cloth wearer would likely collapse after a hit.
By the way, the second player is in the group to grant access to the keystone. However, he is offline after just a few minutes, ruling out that Mionee had any further help here.
Once again, we congratulate this incredible achievement – and eagerly await whether Mionee will also surpass the magical threshold of “Mythic+20”.
What crazy achievement have you accomplished in World of Warcraft? Or are you not even looking for such challenges?
The global rewards of the Pokémon GO Festival are active for a few days longer than planned. Take advantage of the extra time for lots of XP, Stardust, and Candy.
Actually, the global rewards were supposed to end on the night from Monday to Tuesday. However, Niantic announced that these bonuses are now active for even longer than originally planned. Perhaps this is meant to console over the poor experiences at the GO Festival.
You now have more than two additional days to take advantage of the cool bonuses like double XP and reduced egg distances.
Global Rewards – Ending on Friday
The original end of the global rewards was on the night from Monday (July 24) to Tuesday (July 25). However, Niantic has now decided to extend the event.

Now you can take advantage of the various bonuses for 72 hours longer. The new official end is now Friday, July 28, at 2:00 AM German time (July 27, 5 PM PDT). Until then, there are the following in-game bonuses for you:
Last Saturday, July 22, the Pokémon GO Festival took place in Chicago. While the event did not go according to the expectations of trainers and organizers, players managed to unlock global rewards.
Trainers here in Germany are also pleased that they can quickly level up their Pokémon GO accounts with double experience points and improve their Pokémon with the extra Stardust.
It was planned for these rewards to be active for up to 48 hours. The duration depended on how many Pokémon were caught during different time windows of the GO Festival worldwide. Trainers around the world did their best to catch many Pokémon and keep the bonuses active for a long time. Successfully, they reached the originally highest duration of 48 hours. Now the event has been extended by another three days.
In the coop shooter Fortnite, you can play one of four character classes. But which class does what and which one is suitable for which playstyle? Find out here in our class presentation for Fortnite!
Fortnite, the fun and colorful coop shooter offers you four basic classes. Each of them has their own advantages and disadvantages, and only in a team can you ideally complement each other and get the best out of yourselves. But none of this is very useful if you don’t know what your hero can do. Therefore, we present all four classes here and explain what they can do.
Fortnite – Explorer, Soldier, Ninja, or Constructor? – 4 Hero Types for Every Gameplay
Depending on whether you go into battle as a nimble explorer, sneaky ninja, shooting soldier, or crafty constructor, the chosen class gives you a unique playstyle. The soldier is ideal for shooter fans, while the constructor mainly makes Minecraft fans happy. In the following paragraphs, we will present each class in detail.
However, keep in mind that not all of a hero’s abilities are available at the start of the game. Many skills need to be unlocked through level-ups. Additionally, all heroes can use all weapons, although certain characters have bonuses with specific weapons.
Important: A hero is not just a hero. There are “subcategories”, subclasses. A character thus belongs to one of the 4 basic classes and to a specific subclass and has a certain skill set.
For example, some constructors are more tank-like, while others are focused on building structures. So it’s best to level up different heroes and try everything out. A hero that doesn’t suit you can always be sold later for XP.
Explorer – Ideal for Hunters and Gatherers
The explorer is one of the most mobile classes in the game, alongside the ninja. He runs with a pistol, combat glove, and harvesting tool around and collects resources faster thanks to his bonuses. He also has an increased chance of finding loot.
Particularly cool: Some explorers can drop llama piñatas full of extra loot for their teammates or summon a mechanical bear called TEDDY armed with a machine gun.
Other explorers are specialists for traps and pistols. In general, explorers are quick and fragile. Therefore, they are ideal for all players who like to support their team by gathering loot and scouting the terrain. There are indeed special bonuses, survivors, and loot on every map that you can reach particularly well with the explorer thanks to teleportation jumps.
Soldier – Perfect for Shooter Fans
Soldiers are experts in ranged combat and play like their comrades from most shooters: load, aim, and fire! Soldiers are good all-rounders and should not be missed in any collection. Soldiers can throw grenades, slow down enemies, have less recoil, and reload faster. They also deal more damage with assault rifles.
Thanks to shockwave, they can keep enemies at a distance, battle cries empower allies, and as a particularly strong skill, soldiers – as seen in the trailer – can pull out a minigun and fire massively for a short time. So if you want to fight primarily from a distance, you should definitely specialize in the soldier.
Ninja – Jump, Slash, Escape!
Ninjas are the ideal melee DPS throwers and also the fastest heroes in the game. Ninjas fight best with swords, with which, thanks to their skills, they strike faster and harder. Additionally, they have a particularly devastating melee attack thanks to the Dragon Strike ability. At distance, they can use unique throwing stars.
Ninjas are not only ideal in melee; they can also double jump to reach remote places without the need to build stairs and platforms clumsily. They also throw smoke bombs to confuse the enemy. Some ninja heroes also have poison blades that deal damage over time. Optimal for quickly taking down large creatures. Ninjas also take less fall damage.
Constructor – The Best Choice for Builders & Tanks
Constructors are far from just the Fortnite version of Bob the Builder. Rather, these tough guys and gals serve as solid tanks and melee fighters. They hit with hammers and other blunt weapons, and as tanks, they have thick hitpoints and shields. With the skill Bull Rush, they always charge first into the fray. Additionally, they can bind enemies with a decoy, ideal for strategically controlling foes.
In their role as builders, they build and repair structures faster and cheaper than other heroes. If that’s not enough, they can deploy a BASE skill that strengthens all buildings in the area. Furthermore, constructors can deploy plasma pulse emitters that regularly damage all enemies. Constructors should not be missing in any team. Unfortunately, as a constructor, you are a bit slow.
We want to know: Which hero in Overwatch do you like the most? Participate in our survey and show which character is the best!
Although Overwatch is a cooperative team shooter where lots of bullets, fireballs, hard-light lasers, and healing grenades fly across the screen, the game’s charm comes from other things: the characters. Each of the now 25 heroes has its own story with exciting and dramatic pasts. As the characters are diverse and varied, players find it easy to identify with one hero or another.
There are also some fans who “overdo it a bit” and give the different heroes some special dedications. Here are a few examples:
That’s why we want to know from you: Which hero is your favorite in Overwatch? There are no specific criteria for you to choose by. However, if you need a little guidance, consider the following aspects to make a judgment:
Which hero has the coolest voicelines?
Which hero is needed in every group?
Which hero is the most fun to play?
Which hero has the best backstory?
Which hero has the quirkiest fan fictions?
Which hero has the prettiest fingernails?
Ultimately, what you choose is up to you.
It would be particularly helpful if you could also justify your answer with a small statement – just put it in the comments.
Lugia and Articuno are already available in Pokémon GO. Soon, there will be two more well-known legendary faces in the game. Get ready for a legendary hunt to complete your PokéDex.
The last few days have been particularly exciting for many trainers in Pokémon GO. After about a year of waiting, two of the legendary Pokémon have finally made their way into the game and can be encountered as raid bosses. Those who defeat them even have a chance to catch them.
So far, the game features Articuno, the legendary ice bird, and the leader of the legendary bird trio: Lugia. But these are not the only special monsters you can expect in the coming months. Niantic plans to increase the legendary count soon by adding two more birds.
The aforementioned legendary bird trio is currently only partially available in Pokémon GO. However, this is set to change soon as Niantic plans to activate the fire bird Moltres and the electric bird Zapdos “soon” in the game.
The fact that only Articuno is currently available in Pokémon GO is due to the blue Pokémon team performing the best during the GO Fest. Players unlocked the blue part of the legendary trio. If Team Red or Yellow had won, we might have already seen Moltres or Zapdos instead of Articuno.
After Niantic announced that Lugia and Articuno would now appear in the world of Pokémon GO, they quickly reassured the players of the other teams. Moltres and Zapdos will soon be found in the “real world”.
Don’t worry, Team Instinct and Team Valor, the Legendary Pokémon Zapdos and Moltres will also make their way into the real world soon … .
So far, it is unclear, when the other birds will appear in the game. Trainers are eagerly waiting for the trio to be completed. Prepare for tough battles, as the legendary birds are not easy to defeat and even more difficult to catch.
Method has defeated Kil’jaeden and has finally released the kill video for it. You can see how one of the toughest bosses in WoW dies here.
A little over a week ago, we reported that Kil’jaeden was killed on the mythic difficulty level. He was the final boss of the current raid of World of Warcraft, the “Tomb of Sargeras”.
While watching and listening, you can clearly notice how the first few minutes of the fight are played relatively casually, as the strategy and tactics were already 100% in place. But as the video progresses, the tension rises, until ultimately the chatter completely stops and only single keywords and commands are given. But all of that dissipates at the moment Kil’jaeden’s demise is sealed. You might want to lower the volume during the final cheer.

The reason the video is only being released now has multiple factors. On the one hand, editing and creating the video takes a while, and on the other, there was a desire not to spoil the “World Second” run by revealing boss tactics beforehand.
The second kill of Kil’jaeden, by the way, went to the Russian guild Exorsus, which had already achieved numerous successes before.
The Tomb of Sargeras received a lot of criticism from professional guilds during the “progress phase”. Blizzard would respond too slowly to problems, and some bugs had been present for days. This was disappointing for many, especially after the Night Fortress (the previous raid) was well-balanced and Blizzard responded quickly.
Meanwhile, Bungie announces that the planned test phase of the Destiny 2 beta ended yesterday. Now begins the phase in which “dangerous tests” will be conducted. Players should expect connection drops and issues.

The action-packed MMORPG TERA has been around for a few years, but since the release on Steam and the transition to Free2Play, it has remained in great health. I take another look and pay the game a little visit. What has changed in the last few years and whether it is still fair, you will find out in the following article.
I first heard about TERA when I was browsing the game shelf at the electronics store and stumbled upon the game’s packaging. However, at that time, I was quite an MMORPG skeptic and did not interest myself in this type of game, so I just read the back of the box.
TERA – Better late than never!
However, in early 2013, I heard about the Free2Play transition and thought: “Oh, why not? Let’s just check it out, it costs nothing.”
After the night turned into day and I only realized in the morning how long I had actually sat in front of the PC, the question kept circling in my mind: “Why didn’t I try this thing much earlier?”
Four years later, in 2017, I’m playing TERA again, and thanks to the release on Steam, I’m not alone. Even today, TERA has a large player base.
TERA – Active in the action
TERA is an action-packed MMO where an active combat control keeps players constantly on the move. Here you must target your enemy, perform combos of various skills, and actively dodge. The boring button-mashing is thus eliminated, and the game feels almost like an action-fighting game.
When you encounter the big bosses, you have to focus on the combat action every second. It is always challenging and it is always fun to kick enemies in the butt. What I also find good: TERA has a lot of different skills, and thus players are able to chain combos together.
As a Destroyer, I have many combinable offensive skills to take down the occasional Golem. As a Lancer, I am the tank and skillfully draw the aggro of enemy bosses onto me. Fighting feels good and dynamic, and it is fun to seek direct confrontation.
TERA – There’s something for everyone, but annoying gender lock
Players who complain in some MMOs about the lack of races or classes will be appeased in TERA. For here, compared to other MMORPGs, there is a massive selection.
Currently, you can choose between seven different races. Each has its own bonuses and thus prefers different playstyles.
Each of the selectable races has a so-called race skill. For example, humans have a few advantages in PVP, while the swift Castanics have a better chance of landing critical hits.
I chose the race of the Castanics because I find their outfits quite stylish, even if some gear might appear quite revealing for some.
Once you have chosen a race, you proceed to class selection. There are a whopping 13 different classes.
What annoys me here: Some classes are playable only for specific races or only for female heroes. This makes me wonder: Why? Does this really have to be?
This recurring gender lock is just annoying (by the way, it also annoys our boss Dawid, who wrote a comment about the surplus of female heroes).
TERA – From Tank to Damage Dealer
TERA offers a large selection of different playstyles.
If you want to protect your teammates with your metal armor, then the Lancer would be ideal, who makes a solid impression with a thick shield and the eponymous lance. If you prefer to deal damage from a distance and want to take out enemy minions from the background, the classic Mage or Archer will serve you well.
After you have chosen the right class, you proceed to the editor. Here you can customize your hero. There are several options for customization. Although TERA’s character creation cannot compete with Black Desert’s editor, it doesn’t have to.
There are enough options for personalization to make your appearance unique.
TERA – PvE or PvP?
In TERA, there are many possibilities to spend your time in the world. Before character creation, you should of course pay attention to what kind of servers you want to play on. If you want some peace while beating up enemies, you should join a PvE server. If you’re looking for direct confrontation with other players, the PvP server is the right one for you.
Once you climb the first levels, you have various options to prove yourself in combat. There are countless dungeons that put your skills to the test. However, the dungeons do not always follow the same pattern, but vary significantly in their mechanics.
Quests are standard fare, but there are always dynamic events that refresh things a bit. And BAMS. Big bosses that need to be taken down! Later, you can also participate in raids that provide challenging content for large groups of players. There is definitely no shortage of content.
TERA – 3,2,1 – Action!
If you prefer to measure yourself against other players, you can engage in the well-known duels in arenas.
In the mode “Battlegrounds, there are large battles between players. Here, a total of 16 people compete against each other to complete various mission objectives. And these are just some of the many options to progress in the game.
Aside from fighting, TERA offers many options to invest your time wisely. There’s an auction house for trading rare items. Crafting is also included, as well as a comprehensive daily and reputation system.
A Touch of Asia
As TERA has been around for several years, it is understandable that the MMO still runs on Unreal Engine 3.
However, the game still looks great and scores especially with detailed backgrounds. Since TERA was imported from Asia, it features Asian style with extremely revealing outfits and stylized hairstyles.
For today’s standards, the game still appears detailed. Armors and your characters stand out particularly well. Therefore, you can spend a few minutes simply admiring your hero against the beautiful backdrop of the game.
TERA – The Free2Play Model
TERA has been operating on a Free2Play model since 2013, allowing you to play the game entirely for free. There are a total of 3 different account types. Once you have downloaded the client and taken your first steps into the world, you will be a Starter and under some restrictions.
Players who have already purchased TERA will become Veterans and have fewer restrictions. As a member of the TERA Club, which you have to pay for monthly, you will enjoy the most benefits.
As a Starter, you only have two character slots, and you need to purchase or unlock more through membership. The positive aspect: You can enjoy the entire story for free, and there are no level restrictions. Only with small limitations—such as smaller bank slots or fewer daily tasks—do you have to be content with the status of a beginner.
Veterans have eight character slots and four bank slots, while Club members receive even more goodies such as more daily quests, an exclusive mount, and boosters.
If you are new to TERA, you can dive in for free and enjoy the game. If you want to get the most out of the MMO at later levels, you should consider joining the TERA Club.
Is the game worth it despite being a few years old?
TERA initially started as a subscription MMO and competed against genre giants such as World of Warcraft. Because of this and due to a complex legal dispute, content was initially missing, and TERA suffered from a weak start. After further declining player numbers, the decision was made to transition the game to a Free2Play model in early 2013.
And it worked. Since the transition, there are currently four well-filled servers, and in the capitals, you can see many players trading or engaging in various duels. The release on Steam in spring 2017 provided a massive boost.
Although you need to download a lot of data, you’ll have a huge selection of classes and races. The Free2Play system is fair and allows you to enjoy the entire story and leveling. I can tolerate small restrictions, such as limited character slots. So, if you have a good internet connection and can quickly download the game to your home PC, you should definitely check out TERA.
The GO Fest remains in the minds of many Pokémon GO trainers – but not in a particularly positive way. For the poor experience, the developers now apologize to players with in-game currency and a legendary Pokémon.
The developers did not expect this: The Pokémon GO Fest for the anniversary of the mobile hit was intended to be a nice celebration for players and developers. Instead, the team seemed just as overwhelmed as a year ago, when the game was released and suffered from server problems for weeks.
Niantic now apologizes to the players who were on site in Chicago for the poor experience.
Team was “appalled” by the fest
Over the weekend, the GO Fest in Chicago took place. A spectacle with over 20,000 trainers on site, a stage program, a DJ and challenges for the trainers. What was planned as a grand celebration is now just a bad memory for many trainers. The reason: severe bugs and server problems that kept the trainers from playing.
Even for Niantic’s developers, the fest was a shock.
A spokesperson for Niantic told the press that the team cannot undo what has happened. However, they emphasize once again that they are unhappy with the course and results of the event and apologize to all trainers. They are now trying to learn from the mistakes made at the GO Fest.
“The team here on site is appalled. We want to make it right as quickly as possible,” they said.
During the event, it became clear how unhappy the visiting trainers were with the event. During the live stream, one could hear chants that drowned out the stage program. They repeatedly shouted “We can’t play!” while gameplay from Pokémon GO was shown on the screen.

PokéCoins worth $100 and legendary Pokémon as compensation
On the official Pokémon GO site, the team expresses its apologies again. Although they managed to get the technical problems under control, they could not provide the local trainers with the desired positive experience. Therefore, the following steps have been initiated, which apply to the trainers who were on site in Chicago and registered for the fest:
All registered participants of the GO Fest can get a full refund of their ticket price. Participants will receive information about this via email.
All registered participants will also receive PokéCoins worth $100.
Special Pokémon, eggs, and the Check-In PokéStops in Chicago will remain available for use beyond the fest with increased reach.
Additionally, all registered fest participants will receive the legendary Pokémon “Lugia” added to their collection.
The recently released online survival game Dark and Light in Early Access has not received well on Steam and garnered numerous negative reviews. Massive technical issues were also to blame. This annoyance is now set to be resolved with new servers and a major patch.
Poor performance with extremely long loading times
Graphics bugs
Overly strong PvP focus
Too close to Ark: Survival Evolved
According to many players, Dark and Light is shockingly unfinished even for an Early Access game. The developers do not want to let this slide and have pulled a few all-nighters.
Dark and Light – Patch is here, Early Access Steam reviews are settling
To appease the angry players, a first patch has been released. This brings several improvements, such as:
Female characters now hit better with stone swords
Stamina and mana regeneration now work correctly
The blacksmith in Estel is finally dressed
Rank 2 equipment for magic defense can now be crafted correctly
You can loot ghost scythes from Wraiths
In addition to the patch, there were also plenty of new servers. Three more realms were launched for the USA, Asia, Oceania, and Europe. This should hopefully improve the massive loading times and performance issues. The new servers are called:
EU-Wyrmslayer-1
EU-Wyrmslayer-2
EU-Wyrmslayer-3
Meanwhile, the Steam reviews have stabilized. Positive reviews now slightly outweigh the negatives, but almost half of the players still find the game terrible. To improve the game and gather feedback, the developers have opened an official discussion on Steam at the provided link.
Anthem is taking a strange marketing approach. Instead of using advertising banners, they prefer to flatten innocent corn plants.
Marketing sometimes takes strange paths. Companies try to reach customers in the most noticeable and creative ways possible. When billboards, advertising banners, and product placement in YouTube videos no longer bear fruit, one seeks other ways – out into nature.
BioWare has come up with something special for Anthem. Instead of spending millions on a traditional advertising campaign, they rented a cornfield and created a work of art for eternity (or at least until the next harvest). A large Exo-Suit from the upcoming multiplayer shooter Anthem, along with the BioWare logo and plenty of cryptic runes to complete the artwork.

Clearly, they are not taking it too seriously, as the video is full of self-irony. However, one could certainly believe that some of the developers have truly never held an ear of corn in their hand.
An Exo-Suit in a Cornfield is Always Free
At least it’s nice to see that the studio has not lost its sense of humor after the debacle surrounding Mass Effect: Andromeda. Even if one does not really believe the enthusiasm shown by the participants in the video.
The reactions in the comments on YouTube are rather mixed. They range from “What a great idea” to “BioWare is making a fool of itself” and “What a damn waste of time and money” – it’s all there.
What do you think of this video? Just plain stupid and a waste of money and time? Or did the video fulfill its purpose – after all, people are talking about it now?
New sound files in Overwatch bring party vibes. Is Doomfist coming with a volleyball tournament for the Summer Games?
In the PTR, the test realm of Overwatch, new files are repeatedly found in the depths of the game that can only be logically associated late. Among them are recurring music pieces and sound snippets.

On Reddit, the user pyth0nix has now found two short music files. These can be attributed to the Summer Games, the next in-game event for Overwatch. Here, there will be the old skins and cosmetic rewards from last year, but also some new features. The first piece is associated with the 30 seconds of waiting time that will be at the start of the brawl:

As for the second piece, there is only speculation that it is the music for the loading screen of the new brawl. Then the brawl would probably be a bit darker than the cheerful Lúcioball.
Doomfist Volleyball at the Summer Games 2017?
Fans speculate that this could be an action-packed volleyball match. That would fit perfectly with Doomfist’s ability kit – because who could hit balls better than the epitome of a punch fighter?
Most players hope that Lúcioball will at least be available again in the arcade, as the mode was praised by many players last year. Although it was relatively simple, one could spend a lot of time in it.
It would also be possible that the Summer Games get a darker touch. Because the villain Doomfist stands for development through conflict and progress – although he is actually excluded from tournaments.
Doomfist will debut on July 27, 2017 – so still this week. The Summer Games will likely kick off a week later, on August 3.
