On July 17, 2018, the update 1.2.3 brings Bounties to Destiny 2. Guardians now have daily tasks to engage in. However, the Bounties have some new features compared to Destiny 1. We have the details.

In Destiny 1, Bounties offered players daily tasks to increase their clan reputation or earn XP points to level up their gear.

However, this feature was removed in Destiny 2. Players were supposed to have fewer “obligations”. No one should feel pressured to accomplish something every day.

However, the studio later realized that it was not a good decision and is now bringing back optional daily tasks with the July update 1.2.3 on Tuesday, July 17, 2018 – with some changes.

Bounties Return – With Two New Mechanics

Bounties will soon be making a return. Bounties in Destiny 2 retain a large portion of the characteristics that the Bounties had during the “Taken King” era.

This is what makes Bounties in Destiny 2 special:

• They can be collected from various vendors
• They usually provide XP and clan reputation
• Some Bounties offer better rewards
• Bounties can be redeemed in the field, allowing immediate rewards without going back to the Tower or vendor
• Some Bounties may drop in the wild (in Forsaken)

There are two new mechanics: If Bounties are left incomplete, they will expire. However, if you wish to play them later, it will cost you some Glimmer. This is to prevent players from hoarding every Bounty until their inventory is full and then sorting them out later – without restricting Guardians with a very limited Bounty capacity.

The Rewards: In Forsaken, more vendors will offer Bounties. Some Bounties will lure players with legendary or even better rewards for successful completions.

Destiny 2: Forsaken brings new powers for all classes. A total of nine new paths for all subclasses are set to come, which Bungie considers completely new Supers.

The first major expansion for Destiny 2, Forsaken, will offer players more variety in choosing their subclass. No brand new class will be added, but each existing subclass will receive a new path.

Nine new paths for the subclasses

Larger selection: With Forsaken, players can choose a new path for each of their three classes among the subclasses. This means Guardians will soon have access to a total of nine new paths, which the developers refer to as completely new Supers.

Hunter

• Solar Alternative: Way of a Thousand Cuts – This Hunter was already shown in the first ViDoc. His knife attack Knife Trick now summons a group of burning throwing knives. Enemies hit and burned by the knives will recharge the ability if they are killed. Burning enemies also recharge the dodge. With the Super Blade Barrage, the Hunter will be able to throw his knives twice while airborne.

• Void Alternative: Way of the Wraith – The melee smoke grenade of this Hunter slows down enemies and inflicts heavy damage. Precision kills at full health render this Hunter invisible and give him the ability “True Sight”. This could mean that the Hunter can see through walls. Thus, this Hunter can see his enemies through walls as well. If the melee ability is used during invisibility, the opponent receives a debuff with the perk Shattering Strike that reduces their damage output. The Super Spectral Blades envelops the Hunter in a veil of shadows, only to reappear behind enemies and finish them off with Void daggers.

• Arc Alternative: Way of the Current – If this Hunter slides before executing his melee attack, his strike transforms into an uppercut with his arc staff. Melee hits increase reload speed, while all Arc abilities electrify opponents. Further melee attacks confuse enemies and recharge abilities. The arc staff super can be used in close combat, just like the normal Arcstrider. However, with the Super Whirlwind Guard, the staff is used for defense and can reflect projectiles, only to later triple the staff’s damage when attacking.

Warlock

• Solar Alternative: Attunement of Grace – This new super was presented at the E3 2018. In this path, melee attacks burn enemies but empower allies. Holding the grenade button transforms grenades into a blessing that heals friends and creates orbs that grant overshields. With the Super Well of Radiance, the Warlock’s Dawnblade is slammed into the ground, activating a large area aura that rapidly heals and empowers allies. All Warlock abilities that heal or empower recharge abilities (except for the Super) faster.

• Void Alternative: Attunement of Fission – This path gains a new melee ability, Atomic Breach, that creates a Void explosion at a distance. Holding the grenade button produces a supernova with area damage, but it has a limited range. Kills with Void abilities heal the Warlock and replenish ability energy. The Super Nova Warp already appeared in the ViDoc: The Void Warlock can teleport several times over short distances, only to then burst with Void energy.

• Arc Alternative: Attunement of Control – The alternative of the Stormcaller also receives a new melee ability that launches an electrically charged ball at long range, which detonates after some time, creating a lightning strike. Arc kills also sometimes create ion traces, sparks of raw Arc energy that move toward the Warlock and can be collected to recharge abilities. If the Warlock is injured while collecting, he and his allies will receive a speed boost. The Super Chaos Reach allows the player to fire a long-reaching beam of energy that deals high damage. The super can be prematurely terminated to save energy. Players are already jokingly comparing this path to the “Kamehameha” technique from Dragon Ball.

Titan

• Solar Alternative: Code of the Devastator – The Sunbreaker Titan can throw a hammer with his new melee ability that stays in the world. When picked up, the player regains all melee energy and regenerates health. The more enemies defeated with Solar abilities, the more damage can be dealt, up to a maximum of three times the damage. The Super Burning Maul  generates a flaming hammer that resembles the axe from Rise of Iron. The hammer can be swung around to hit enemies normally and slammed to the ground to create a fiery tornado with short range.

• Void Alternative: Code of the Commander – The melee of this path creates explosions, while abilities inflicting Void damage attach Void grenades to opponents. Further damage causes the grenades to explode, allowing the Titan and nearby allies to regenerate grenade energy and health. The Super Banner Shield lets the Titan use his Captain America shield as usual, but with this path, a barrier of light can also be created that blocks attacks from enemies but allows allies to pass through. If the team shoots through the shield, the duration of the super is extended.

• Arc Alternative: Code of the Missile – The alternative Striker can perform his melee attack in mid-air to slam down and generate super energy. If the Titan slides while picking up ammo, the equipped weapon is automatically reloaded, and weapon damage is increased for a short time. With the Super Thundercrash, the Arc Titan takes off like a rocket and can guide himself over a great distance toward a group of enemies, dealing significant area damage.

A support path for each class?

More versatility for the Guardians: Bungie promised in a conversation with the US site GamesRadar that the new class paths would focus more on depth and support abilities. It was intended for each class to receive at least one support path. However, it currently seems that especially the Warlock is taking on the role of the supporter.

This is what the Guardians think: Players in the Destiny subreddit have already analyzed and discussed the ViDoc for Destiny 2: Forsaken in detail, focusing on the possible applications of the new class paths.

A major wish from the community is to allow the classes to be adaptable like in Destiny 1 rather than sticking to the predetermined paths. Players prefer to choose their abilities themselves again, rather than just picking one of three possible skill builds. However, it currently does not seem like this wish will be fulfilled.
