This week in World of Warcraft: Battle for Azeroth, you can grab a powerful weapon at a low cost. We reveal how to get it.
Without artifact weapons, obtaining a solid weapon is once again one of the main tasks in WoW: Battle for Azeroth. After all, the weapon is the piece of equipment that has the greatest impact on performance for most classes, especially for damage classes. This week (09/05 – 09/11), you can snag a strong weapon with an item level of 345. However, you’ll need to engage in a bit of PvP.
How do you get the weapon? To obtain the weapon with an item level of 345, you need to collect 500 Conquest Points with a character this week. Conquest Points can be earned through many PvP activities, such as battlegrounds, arena matches, or opening air drops. The weekly quest that you can accept at your faction’s PvP headquarters also grants 50 Conquest Points.
Once you have accumulated 500 Conquest Points, you will receive a quest and can choose your weapon as a reward.
Display error causes confusion: In the game, the weapon is currently advertised with an item level of 280. However, this is just a display error. Once you can select the weapon, it will have an item level of 345 and should be a solid upgrade for a variety of players.
Each week there is a different reward for reaching the weekly cap on Conquest Points. This way, players can acquire a complete PvP set over the weeks.
Are you going to get the corresponding weapon this week? Or do you have a dislike for PvP and will instead look for a weapon in other ways?

When will the servers be back online? Unlike the last few weeks, we are expecting a larger update, so the downtime may take longer. However, the Fortnite servers are usually available again around lunchtime between 11:30 and 12:30.
According to Fortnite developer Epic, this Update 5.40 will include several significant changes. A critical controller bug was found that had to be addressed. Performance issues on the Nintendo Switch are also expected to be significantly reduced.
What’s included in Update 5.40 for the Battle Royale mode: Fans of competitive gaming will primarily have to say goodbye to one weapon.
The revolver will be removed from the game and will return to the workshop, where it will be reworked and maybe come back in a different form.
The highlight of this week is undoubtedly the new “High Stakes” event, a limited-time mode with its own challenges and rewards. Also new is the Grappler, which can take you to places that you can usually only reach with precious building resources.
What’s in the update for the “Save the World” players: This week, Epic mainly intends to address various issues in the “Save the World” mode. While there will also be new horde challenges, the focus will be on improving the performance when joining missions and general issues, especially on consoles.
Epic will soon publish a separate post with details.
What do you think of the update? Are you excited about the new mode in Fortnite: Battle Royale?
In Destiny 2 a new reward system is running: The Bungie Rewards. Those who achieve certain goals in Forsaken will receive rewards from the Bungie Store.
What are the Bungie Rewards? At the launch of Forsaken, community manager Cozmo introduced a new rewards program built around the new expansion and linked to the Bungie Store.
According to Cozmo, you will be able to earn real loot for your in-game triumphs with these “Bungie Rewards,” which you can then celebrate, remember, and show off.
Which Bungie reward can I get now – and how?
The first Bungie reward: To claim the first reward, you must complete the Forsaken campaign by the end of September 2018. This is the requirement that you must fulfill directly in the game. You have until September 30 at 4:59 PM to do this.
What else do I need to do? To receive the reward, you must first register for the rewards program and verify your email address there. You do this on the official Bungie page for Bungie Rewards (link opens new page). Log in to Bungie.net and agree to the notification terms – if you wish. If you have problems, you will also find help at the link above.
And what is the first reward? If you complete the campaign in time, you will receive a free original soundtrack of Destiny 2: Forsaken as well as two “Whispers of the Worm” bonus tracks as a digital download. The bonus tracks are only available through this Bungie reward. The soundtrack, which includes 110 minutes of music, costs $10 in the extended version (190 minutes) in the Bungie Store.
What other Bungie rewards will there be?
So far, only the reward for the first Bungie reward task is known. According to Cozmo, more will be released during the season and will include “collectible items”.
The requirements for further Bungie rewards are already visible:
By the way: If you buy anything in the Bungie Store, you will receive the “Dreams Realized” emblem until November 28.
What other Bungie rewards there will be will be shown in the coming months. What game content the coming months will bring can already be seen in the Year 2 roadmap for Destiny 2.

In FIFA 19, more new icons are revealed. We present the icons with ratings and cards. German icons like Ballack, Klose, and Lehmann are included. Stoichkov, Best, and Socrates are also featured.
As EA Sports announced on September 5, a new icon from FIFA 19 Ultimate Team will be released every hour. We list them here.
The first icon card was released at 9 AM and belongs to Sócrates Brasileiro Sampaio de Souza Vieira de Oliveira, better known as “Dr. Sócrates“: Sócrates was the captain of the Brazilian national team in the 80s and played in central attacking midfield. He earned the nickname “Doctor” because he was also a pediatrician. As an icon card, he has excellent overall stats, especially in passing, dribbling, and shooting.
At 10 AM, the Italian Gennaro Gattuso:Gattuso plays in central defensive midfield and excels in defense and physicality. He is a World Champion and celebrated great successes, including twice in the Champions League with AC Milan.
At 11 AM, the Portuguese Luis Figo:Figo has outstanding stats for an attacking player. In 2001, he was named World Footballer of the Year and won many titles with Barcelona, Real Madrid, and at the end of his career with Inter Milan.
At noon, Michael Ballack was introduced:The former national team captain plays as CM in FUT 19 and has strong stats all around. His rating of 90 in shooting is exceptional for a CM.
Jens Lehmann is also included! Finally, a few new German icons are coming:Lehmann was named Best Goalkeeper in Europe twice. He is a German champion, English champion, and won several other titles.
Here is George Best:
Next up is Christian Vieri:
At 4 PM, the Bulgarian Stoichkov was revealed:
The next one is Ryan Giggs:
At 6 PM, Scholes came:
And here is Zola:
Emilio Butragueño:
Keane:
Nedved:
Van Nistelrooy:
Klose:
Baresi:
Fernando Hierro:
Lineker:
Moore:
Trezeguet:
Campbell:
Nakata:
Veron:
These are all the new icons.
By now it is officially known that there will be three versions of the icon cards in FUT 19, just like in its predecessor. These represent different stages in the careers of the icons.
It is the Italian Roberto Baggio. He has played for several Italian clubs during his career, with most of his titles won at Juventus Turin in the mid-nineties.
In FUT 19, you can play Baggio as CAM. He has solid stats all around, especially in passing and dribbling he excels.
Fabio Cannavaro:
Cannavaro, like Baggio, mainly played for clubs in Serie A, and he also had three successful years at Real Madrid.
With 80 pace, 95 defending, and 85 physical, the relatively small CB will still be a strong icon card.
Clarence Seedorf:
Seedorf is a former Dutch footballer who won the Champions League with Ajax, Real Madrid, and AC Milan – that is unique! In FUT 19, the CAM comes with good all-around stats, especially passing, shooting, and dribbling are strong.
Claude Makélélé:
Additionally, these new icons were shown:
And Raul:
Gerrard is also included:
What are icons in Ultimate Team?
With the icon cards, EA brings former star footballers back to the virtual pitch of FUT. They have shown outstanding performances in the past and left a lasting impression on the world stage. They are no longer active as professionals.
The icon cards exist only in Ultimate Team mode. They are extremely rare and strong – and correspondingly sought after.
The president of the International Olympic Committee Thomas Bach strictly excludes video games from the Olympic Games. eSports would have no place in the Olympics unless things change. However, the committee’s arguments are outdated and weak, believes our eSports expert Benedict.
In July, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) came together to debate whether eSports should be included in the Olympic Games. The outcome was the “Esports Liaison Group,” which is supposed to mediate between the Olympics and eSports. However, the IOC president is now initially excluding video games.

It tastes best when reheated: The debate about violent video games
The president of the committee Thomas Bach now speaks in an interview about eSports, video games, and the Olympic Games. He makes it clear that video games do not fit into the Olympics; they contradict its values.
In the lines presented from pcgamer and apnews, Bach only refers to “violent video games.” Sure, Counter Strike and Overwatch are major eSports titles, the Battle Royale genre is on the rise, and weapons are a main component in all of them.
“Shooting games” are simply more action-packed and popular to watch than many other games. But gaming and eSports are much more than mindless slaughter.
The most successful games are actually MOBAs and strategy games. The top 5 games where players earn the most are according to esportsearnings Dota2, CS:GO, League of Legends, StarCraft II, and Heroes of the Storm. (As of September 5, 2018, 1:15 PM)
Directly behind, at number 6, lies Hearthstone. And to be honest, in all these games it is about hitting an opponent – with spells, cards, or something else. But violence is certainly not the focus.
Apart from Counter Strike, there is not a single shooting game on the list. Anyone talking about “violent games” here simply has no idea about the subject and is leading an outdated, obsolete discussion.
The viewer numbers speak for themselves. According to data from sullygnome (As of September 5, 2018, 1:15 PM), the most viewed games on Twitch in the last 365 days worldwide across all languages are:
1st place: Fortnite
2nd place: League of Legends
3rd place: PUBG
4th place: Dota 2
5th place: IRL
6th place: Hearthstone
In only one third of these games are weapons the focus of the game …
Discrimination and violence in games
Bach states directly: “We cannot have a game in the Olympic Program that promotes violence and discrimination. So-called violent games. These, from our perspective, contradict the Olympic values and therefore cannot be accepted.”
It is the committee’s responsibility to exclude disciplines where something is killed, even if only virtually. This is a matter of ethics. However, it is not entirely clear whether Bach is referring to the act of killing in a game, or to the focus on combat and weapons.
What is the problem: weapons or killing? If killing is a problem, there are many games where no virtual people are killed: Hearthstone, Splatoon, even Fortnite, where players are just knocked out. In the case of a focus on weapons, there are also games that do not have that, like Dota 2, FIFA, or Hearthstone.
For some disciplines that are already Olympic, however, Bach’s criticism apparently does not apply. Archery and sports shooting are already sports that involve the use of weapons, and Olympic fencing simulates a deadly hit to determine the winner.
And whether a mouse click or a fist punch promotes more “violence” can be debated.
Games include, they do not discriminate: What Bach means by promoting discrimination is also unclear to me. I myself have been a gamer for over 15 years, and I don’t care if my fellow players are women, have a different skin color, or disabilities. What matters to me is how well they play.
Video games themselves do not differentiate who plays. They simply react to the input and are therefore even more open to more players than traditional sports could be.
Especially for players with disabilities, there are opportunities. There are controllers for players with disabilities to also be able to play. Video games even allow people who are paralyzed to participate.

Bach takes it a step further. After all, he admits that some Olympic sports are actually fights in themselves. Boxing, wrestling, judo, and hockey are such examples.
Martial arts are civilized: Bach says about these: “Of course, every martial art has its origins in real combat between humans. But sport is the civilized expression of that. If we have e-games in which killing is involved, that cannot be reconciled with the Olympic values.”
This sounds as if Bach is suggesting that sports, in general, are civilized, but gaming, or violent games in particular, are not. Why else would he specifically state that video games contradict Olympic values, but martial arts do not?
eSports and games also represent values: Video games also embody a unique ethics that affects players even more than traditional sports:
Team spirit: Team spirit is one of the most important aspects for many eSports disciplines. Teams train for months in their own training houses and have to rely on each other to win.
Fairness: One of the biggest moral aspects that gaming teaches is fairness. Anyone who cheats in a video game finds it hard to regain friends there. “Cheaters” are not liked by anyone.
Sportsmanship: If you look at the Overwatch League alone, it is already clear that professional gamers possess a strong sense of sportsmanship. After each match, hands are shaken, former team members are even hugged when they are defeated. Absolute “shit-talk” is rather an exception and often just not serious fun.
It is questionable from which values Bach is speaking when he invokes the “Olympic values.” There are hardly any moral or ethical values found in traditional sports or in Olympic disciplines in particular that gaming does not also cover.
Olympics misses an opportunity
eSports is a growing industry, and interest in video games is steadily increasing among the younger generation. In popular games like Fortnite even 13-year-olds are becoming professionals.
The head of Logitech already stated in an interview with Business Insider: “eSports will be the largest sport in the world – bigger than soccer.” This may take a while, but the trend is definitely recognizable. Events like the Overwatch League are already being broadcast on television.
Currently, it is still early enough to get involved in eSports and become one of the go-to places for the future. The IOC might miss this opportunity with their president’s decision.
Bach demands that the games adapt to Olympic values. Whether and when that will happen, or whether video games even need that, time will tell.
I claim: eSports will be successful even without the Olympics.
It is exhausting
I have been working as an author and journalist for video games and eSports in particular for some time now. The reasons for rejecting eSports as “real sports” have since remained the same, with minor alternations in wording here and there.
It shows that those responsible for larger events, like here in the Olympic Games, have no idea what they are actually criticizing. It also shows that they have no interest in dealing with eSports.
An Overwatch fan. The Olympics wants nothing to do with this enthusiasm.
I am slowly losing interest in having “my sport” aligned with traditional sports. I am tired of the discussions from people who come with the same arguments over and over again and showing their ignorance, even managing to take a jab at gamers themselves here.
No one likes female dwarves and night elf druids are the latest trend. We reveal which combinations in World of Warcraft are particularly popular.
In World of Warcraft, players may not have the largest selection when it comes to customizing their characters, but there are still numerous different combinations of class, race, and gender. A total of 236 different combinations are possible if you do not consider the allied races.
The Reddit user TwentyOne13 took several hours to analyze the data from the RealmPop website, which deals with the population on WoW servers.
Night elf druids are the most popular combination
Considering that night elf druids are actually still a novelty in the culture of the Kal’dorei, it might be surprising that female night elf druids top the list. 912,285 characters exist.
They are closely followed by human male paladins, represented by a total of 899,446 characters
Tauren are also significantly more popular than their appearance would suggest. In third place, we already have male tauren druids with 864,804 characters
The first female blood elf is actually in seventh place. 643,488 players have created a blood elf paladin and are spreading the light in Azeroth
Female draenei come in even later. In ninth place are the “space goats” with their female shamans. Still, there are 552,122 characters
Humans are generally extremely popular. All possible combinations of humans can be found in the first 100 positions.
On the other hand, dwarves are different. Especially female dwarves are extremely unpopular and take the last place. The places 234 – 236 go respectively to female dwarves as death knights, mages, and monks. There are only 14,053 characters as female dwarf monks.
So if you want to be particularly “exclusive,” you should consider a female dwarf.
Please note that these data is for the US servers of World of Warcraft. Also not included are the new allied races that have not yet been recorded by RealmPop.
In Destiny 2 Forsaken, there is a new public event called Aether Ritual. Here you will learn how to activate the heroic event.
The Scourge is a new area located at the far edge of the Reef and is home to all sorts of nasty enemies. As in every destination in Destiny 2, public events also take place in the Scourge, which you can complete alone, with friends, or with random other guardians to earn loot.
One of the new events in the Scourge is the Aether Ritual. This can start in the “Fourhorn Gulch” area – also in the Dreaming City. You will fight against the Scorn, the new enemies in Forsaken.
Triggering the heroic public event Aether Ritual
This is how the event works: In the center of the arena, there is a chained Servitor that has become the victim of a vile Scorn ritual. Three Dredge Chieftains will now appear one after the other that you must defeat. Dredge Chieftains are strong representatives of the Scorn who can take a lot of damage:
Dredge Chieftain
Every time you defeat a Dredge Chieftain, “concentrated Aether” is released. This Aether appears in the form of white-blue mist clouds and makes its way to the Servitor in the center:
Here’s how to start the heroic event: This concentrated, floating Aether is essential for the heroic event. You must shoot it down before it reaches the Servitor in the middle. As a solo Guardian, this is quite difficult, as several Aether clouds are released with each boss. So shoot together at the flying Aether stuff.
If you were able to fend off the concentrated Aether of all three Dredge Chieftains, the heroic event will start immediately. If only one Aether cloud reaches the Servitor, no heroic event will be triggered.
Tips:
Choose weapons against the Aether clouds that allow you to shoot continuously for a long time, such as an auto rifle. Hand cannons are not suitable.
To hit all Aether clouds, you can equip an auto rifle as a Titan and set up a barricade. This way, you can create a continuous fire without reloading.
It is strongly advised to shoot at the clouds as a team so that you don’t miss any.
Sometimes, devices appear that make enemies immune to your damage. Quickly find and eliminate them by shooting:
This is how the heroic event ends: The reanimated machinist will appear, a Baron that you can shoot down. Once that’s done, the event is over.
You can watch the event here in the video by Nexxoss Gaming:

In the upcoming online shooter Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, you will not only face other players in the Battle Royale mode Blackout. Zombies are also involved.
Traditionally, Battle Royale focuses on the fight between players. However, more and more shooters are incorporating PvE elements into the battles, such as Fear the Wolves. This is also the case in the Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Battle Royale mode.
The undead are coming!
Will the zombie mode be mixed with Blackout? Not much is currently known about how the undead will fit into the Battle Royale mode Blackout of CoD: Black Ops 4.
The fact is: you will not only be fighting against other players on the large map. Zombies will also get in your way. However, you should not expect waves of undead to defend against. What is traditionally known from the zombie mode of a Call of Duty will be adapted for Blackout. More details are to come.
That’s why Black Ops 4 Blackout also has zombies: Battle Royale shooters generally play similarly. Therefore, players constantly ask themselves why they should switch to another BR shooter when it offers hardly anything new.
For this reason, developers must come up with something unique for their own Battle Royale games. Treyarch is adding zombies now. These are intended to create more chaos in the large battles on the map. Players will need to adjust their tactics and always prepare for unforeseen situations.
Zombies are there to make your life difficult. You can also use them to lure enemies into a trap. This should make the gameplay of Blackout more varied.
How are fans reacting to the PvE component? As discussions on Reddit show, fans are somewhat divided about this announcement.
Most find it good that zombies provide variety and chaos. Thus, Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Blackout does not play like every other Battle Royale shooter.
Some fear that this could negatively impact performance. Others hope that zombies can also be disabled to experience “traditional” Battle Royale gameplay.

In Fortnite: Battle Royale (PC, PS4, iOS, Android, Switch & Xbox One), a massive purple cube has been moving around since the end of August. But where is it headed and what will happen then? Mobile users seem to have found the final destination.
The Reddit user DatCringeyGuy took a closer look and found that the runes can be seen on certain grass areas. This grass can be precisely seen in the lowest graphics settings on mobile versions of Fortnite.
The current path of the cube up to September 4.
Grass areas as placeholders: The grass areas are apparently places where the cube activates and leaves runes and anti-gravity fields. Dataminers have already found that there should be a total of 8 runes.
So after the two already known runes, there should be six more grass points in the game world where the cube will make its next stops. If these locations are found, the path of “Kevin” could be predicted.
Community goes on grass safari: In response to a call on reddit, numerous mobile players set out to search the map on low graphic settings for conspicuous grass areas.
This is what the grass areas look like on the mobile version.
They actually found 6 more grass areas, and thus DatCringeyGuy was able to create a map showing the cube’s path.
Is the cube falling into Loot Lake? As some players have already suspected, the final location of the cube will likely be on the southwest shore of Loot Lake. This region has hardly been updated so far.
It is quite possible that Kevin will completely remodel the lake and perhaps establish the mysterious castle “Crazy Castle” there.
But what exactly Kevin is doing and whether he is really rolling to Loot Lake, we will likely only know at the finale of Season 5 and the start of Season 6 at the end of September.
The recently released expansion Forsaken has brought a grim story to Destiny 2. Luckily, the developers also thought of funny moments, such as a Fallen nightclub.
The Tangled Shore is a new location in Destiny 2 where much of the Forsaken story unfolds. Various riffraff gathers there, making life difficult for us Guardians, but they also want to unwind after a hard day. You can now experience how the Fallen spend their leisure time in a Lost Sector.
Sector “The Empty Tank” gets the Fallen dancing
Where can you find the sector? The Lost Sector The Empty Tank is located in the Tangled Shore right at the landing site Thieves’ Landing. After landing, head directly northwest, past some Fallen buildings. In the corner of the map, where you also see the symbols for Petra and Spider, you will stumble upon the sector.
Forsaken with a special sector: This Lost Sector is different from all previous ones and brings a bit of humor into the barren area. If you follow the stairs and corridors, you will soon reach a corner where the music changes.
Either you will hear some bluegrass tunes or the song “Hope for the Future”, which Paul McCartney wrote for Destiny 1. If you continue further, you can look through a glass wall into the room below you. You won’t regret it.
Even Fallen need to celebrate: Apparently, a party is taking place in the main room of the Lost Sector. A Fallen DJ is spinning hot beats while two particularly nasty characters are engaging in a fistfight. A Servitor provides the appropriate party lighting, and Shanks are serving drinks to the guests.
However, beware of the “bouncer”: If you want to enter the party room, an enemy will block your way, for which a power level of 480 is recommended.
You can check out what’s happening in the Lost Sector in the following video:

We spoke with the Austrian artist Aronja about her work for The Elder Scrolls Online, her relationship with the Elder Scrolls series, and what fascinates her about the fantastic worlds of video games.
Who is Aronja? Aronja, also known as Raffaela, is a 26-year-old student from Austria who paints images with acrylic, oil, and watercolor. In her paintings, she depicts the beauty of the fantastic worlds through which players travel every day. She is a huge Lord of the Rings fan and is enthusiastic about Skyrim and The Witcher.
On her YouTube channel, she uploads videos where she paints her images in time-lapse. Fans can also view her work on her website. In the interview, she talks about her creative inspirations, the beauty of Skyrim, and what fascinates her about Tamriel, the world of The Elder Scrolls.
The Interview with Aronja
Mein-MMO: You traveled all over the island of Summerset. Which places did you particularly enjoy? Why did you choose that motif?
Aronja: Generally, I like everything that is elvish! I am impressed by their architecture – embedded in beautiful landscapes with waterfalls and colorful vegetation. Even though I do not particularly like the haughty character of the High Elves (I prefer the company of the Catfolk instead), I am most often found in these areas.
Standing on the west coast of Summerset and looking from an elevated forest glade at the impressive capital “Alinor” was one of the most beautiful moments of my exploration.
But Shimmeren is also very impressive – the city itself rises picturesquely on a rocky peninsula in the ocean surrounded by white coral beaches. The city of Artaeum with the imposing tower “Ceporah” immediately captivated me from the beginning.
Probably because the landscape is not characterized by the typical blue sky, lush green meadows, and ornate white towers – but by delicate shades of purple, mist veils along the coasts, and the mystical sky creates a very peculiar atmosphere. I suspect that I chose it because it is something completely different.
“Painting for me is like telling a story”
Mein-MMO: You paint many landscapes and fewer portraits. What fascinates you about these strange, fantastic worlds?
Aronja: Such fantastic worlds give me an enormous scope for interpretation as to what could be hidden within them or what secrets there are to explore. Painting a landscape in such a way that one can really immerse oneself in it is for me like telling a story, only it is up to the viewer to let their imagination flow into it. It’s hard to describe, but I simply love bringing landscapes and worlds from my imagination to life on the canvas.
Mein-MMO: You particularly like the landscape of Skyrim. What are your favorite places in Skyrim that one should definitely visit?
Aronja: If I had to limit myself to a few favorite places, which is hard for me because the whole of Skyrim could be considered my favorite place, then it would probably be the quaint village of Riverwood, the view from Dragonbridge over the coastal city “Solitude”, or the cave “Ancestor’s Glade.” I particularly enjoyed the forgotten valley from the DLC “Dawnguard” or Sovngarde.
How do you create a painting?
Mein-MMO: What is the process for creating a painting?
Aronja: Often, I make my first draft with Photoshop to get an impression of where various elements should be, how the mood and harmony of the colors will look, and so on. If I am satisfied with it, the sketch is transferred to the canvas.
An acrylic painting is built up in several layers. I start very abstractly and apply large areas of just the basic colors to the canvas. With each subsequent layer, more details are added until I am satisfied with the result. If possible, I also often film the creation process. These time-lapse videos then go on my YouTube channel.
Mein-MMO: What fascinates you about Tamriel, the world of The Elder Scrolls?
Aronja: Tamriel is incredibly multifaceted, whether dry deserts, swamp areas, barren volcanic landscapes with rivers of lava, magical temples, snow-covered regions, and much more. But not only the landscapes are so diverse – Tamriel is teeming with different interesting peoples, such as the fluffy Khajiit, various elf races, scaly Argonians, or orcs.

What I like about this universe is the complexity of story, background history or lore, of the different cultures and countries. Also, there is something interesting to discover at almost every corner, even if it’s just a recipe for Argonian swamp soup. For me, Tamriel is the epitome of fantasy – for everywhere you encounter magic, portals, enchanted beings, magical plants, giant mushrooms, and the most curious creatures.
Tips for aspiring artists
Mein-MMO: Do you have creative role models that you orient yourself towards when creating your art?
Aronja: I collect all kinds of art books that come my way – starting with Skyrim, over The Witcher, God of War, or The Lord of the Rings, especially the works of John Howe. Otherwise, I like the images of Raphael Lacoste, Andreas Rocha, Chuck Black, or the concept art from The Elder Scrolls Online.
Mein-MMO: What tips do you have for people or players if they want to do something like this too?
Aronja: Folks, just do it! Don’t hesitate to at least give it a try. During my time in high school, I learned the basics and various theories about art, but in my opinion, the best way to learn is by simply trying it out – “learning by doing” – and finding your own strengths and weaknesses.
My advice is not to set your expectations too high and above all, not to let yourself get discouraged, like “because there are so many good artists out there already.” Find your own way, believe in yourself, find your strengths, and perfect them.
Bioware spoke about how Anthem should gain “a certain spice” after launch through events. In doing so, the developers took inspiration from Fortnite.
Something is always happening in Fortnite: Events are always in the community’s focus. They are surrounded by secrets and create excitement.
At the moment, a giant, purple cube is rolling across the map, burning runes into the ground. No one knows exactly what its purpose is yet, but the world is talking about it.
This is what BioWare wants for Anthem: In a interview with PC Gamer, Executive Producer Mark Darrah explained that BioWare wants to take a page from this. The community experience is particularly important to the studio. The events would also help to avoid large content gaps.
Players should experience the events together so they can talk about them
“One problem that we have with BioWare games is that there is a certain reluctance to talk about what they’ve experienced, because there is fear of spoiling things. But when you look at something like Fortnite, there is this shared communal storytelling principle, like with the purple cube or the rocket or the meteor. Players share this experience because they know everyone has seen it,” said Mark Darrah.
BioWare wants to avoid the mistakes of other live games: BioWare will follow a “Games-as-a-service” approach with Anthem for the first time, continually developing the MMO shooter and supplying it with fresh content.
It takes more than just a big update: Efficiently keeping up with the players’ content thirst is not an easy task for studios with these live games. Darrah assured that BioWare will take a different approach with Anthem and wants to avoid exactly this mistake:
Many developers do not have this second level of content. They have their seasons and do that in a certain rhythm. ‘We do five things a year, six things a year.’ But they do not have this little extra spice, and that is what Epic has figured out.
Anthem will have seasons but also something for the content hunger in between
In Anthem, there will be large content seasons where bigger things happen. However, Darrah is convinced that Anthem needs more than that. Here, the Executive Producer referred again to the approach Epic follows with Fortnite.
BioWare plans even more than Fortnite: There are these 10-week-long seasons in Fortnite, and in between, a thick, purple cube rolls in, offering players a cherry on top of the content. Anthem aims to potentially have this “live storytelling” even more often than in Fortnite.
Hymn of Creation as a foundation for dynamic world-building
How will that work? The developers did not want to discuss details yet. That would spoil the core game of Anthem. However, the main story of Anthem would be a perfect foundation for introducing these events.
Anthem is built around world-building: In Anthem’s core story, it is about a “Hymn of Creation”. This is a mysterious and ancient technology left behind by a people in the past. The hymn is an unfathomable power that can literally tear the world apart and change it. These rifts can bring forth terrible creatures and other things.
The “Hymn of Creation” would be perfectly suited to spontaneously start live events that the players should marvel at and discuss. The developers can implement this without players having to wait weeks for a new update.
Anthem is not Dragon Age or Mass Effect
This shared story of players will be completely different from anything BioWare has done before. The developers emphasized in the interview that Anthem will be its own thing in BioWare’s DNA.
Players will experience Anthem differently: It will no longer be possible for players to push a certain button and suddenly a mountain explodes. The world must work for a shared community story.
The actions of players can have a collective consequence: The developers can decide to blow up the mountain themselves if the players have not managed to kill a certain number of enemies. In that form, there will be a consequence for everyone that also strengthens the sense of community.
Players will experience their individual stories only in the hub Fort Tarsis. Here, an NPC might die on them. Outside the hub, that does not count, only the shared experiences matter.
What do you think of the plans that BioWare has for Anthem? Can the mix work?
Some BioWare fans have difficulty accepting that Anthem will become something of its own:
In MMORPGs, there are always occasional game glitches. Bugs and issues are quite common, and even a large company like Blizzard with World of Warcraft is not exempt from them. But what happened on September 4th on the American servers might set a new record.
In fact, many new contents from Battle for Azeroth were supposed to be available yesterday afternoon after the maintenance. In addition to Warfronts (for which we have a great guide), the first new season in PvP started, Mythic+ dungeons opened their gates, world bosses spawned, and the raid Uldir finally launched. But a lot went wrong.
Mythic+? More like Problems+!
The biggest annoyance was likely that numerous players suddenly could open a reward chest that was supposed to be available at the end of the week for completing “Mythic+” dungeons. This chest contained rewards that were significantly above the item level that should be accessible to players. Several players reported receiving items well beyond item level 380 – even weapons with item level 415 were said to be available.
The reason for the error was that the reward chest was calculated after the last week of Legion. Therefore, those who completed a “Mythic+15” dungeon in August received an item as if they had completed a “Mythic+15” dungeon in Battle for Azeroth.
What did Blizzard do? Blizzard disabled the chest and began to reclaim the illegitimate rewards from players. Currently, there are no rewards from the chest anymore, only starting next week – and then only according to performance in the current week.

By the way: The error also led to players receiving extremely high keystones. So some players now have a keystone for “Shrine of the Storms +22”. Good luck!
Delays in PvP Season
Especially the PvP fans who have been waiting for the start of the PvP season since the launch of Battle for Azeroth were terribly disappointed. Just a few hours after the maintenance, Blizzard announced that the current PvP season was temporarily “suspended” due to unexpected errors.
What happened in PvP? Blizzard does not disclose all the errors, but at least one became known: just like with the “Mythic+” chests for dungeons, PvP players were already able to open PvP chests with powerful rewards. These items were far too powerful and would likely have completely disrupted the balance in the coming weeks.
What did Blizzard do? Shortly after the discovery of the errors, the PvP season was paused. Players who accidentally received too powerful items later found that Blizzard had removed these items. An apology letter was also sent by mail.
World Bosses Without Limits
Two more issues occurred with the world bosses that could also spawn now. Players were able to enjoy loot that exceeded the actual item level limit. Many players received items from the world bosses with an item level of 400 or more. This is still above the loot from the Mythic version of Uldir.
Moreover, players who were particularly early woke up could defeat the world boss twice and loot twice – including the two “Bonus Rolls”. A clear advantage in the coming days.
Outcry on Social Media: “Rollback Now!”
All these errors led to the official forums, Twitter, and Reddit being filled with complaints. At times on Reddit, the seven most popular posts were those demanding a “rollback,” meaning a reset of the game state to a previous date.
The tone became aggressive and offensive, as the community manager Ythisens was attacked in the forum, being told to “stop farming world quests and finally do his job”.
After all, it was already “1 hour and 30 minutes after his working start” and there had been no statement from him. Yes, this shows the bold side of some members of the WoW community.
Europe Stayed Unaffected
The only good thing about the whole situation is that we European players were completely spared from all the mistakes. Since our weekly maintenance – and thus also the releases for raids – are carried out a few hours later, we escaped these errors. The corresponding hotfixes are already active for us and we can enjoy the game a bit freer from bugs.
Nevertheless, this incident must have been quite embarrassing for Blizzard. Such massive problems did not even occur at the launch of the expansion. Let’s hope this was the most chaotic day in the history of Battle for Azeroth.
Treyarch has announced which vehicles you can use in the Battle Royale mode Blackout of Call of Duty 4: Black Ops 4. However, not all fans are excited.
In Call of Duty, vehicles are used rather infrequently – occasionally in special missions. The Call of Duty Black Ops 4 Battle Royale offers you a range of vehicles that could be important in battles. However, some fans would have preferred something else.
The vehicles in Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Blackout
You can use these vehicles: In Blackout, you have both land vehicles and a helicopter and a boat at your disposal.
Land:
Cargo Truck – Seats one driver and up to four passengers
ATV – One driver and one passenger can use this vehicle
Sea:
Zodiac Inflatable Boat for one pilot and up to three passengers
Air:
Little Bird Helicopter – The aircraft seats one pilot and up to four passengers
Players have wished for something else: Even though the reactions to the announced vehicles on Reddit have been mostly mixed, there are certainly also negative reactions.
However, these are not directed against the vehicles themselves, but many are disappointed that the jet wings known from Black Ops 2 are apparently not included. The jet wings allowed players to get to a battlefield faster. In Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Blackout, only parachutes seem to be used for this purpose.
The upcoming Call of Duty Blackout beta will show how the vehicles fit into the battle royale combat and whether the jet wings are really missed.
It has been rather quiet about Star Wars: The Old Republic. We take a brief look at the game and see what moves the community.
In recent years, Star Wars: The Old Republic has periodically flared up, as a new expansion or a fresh raid generated excitement every few months. Usually, these highlights were underpinned by special cinematic trailers that also excited the fans.
But that has fizzled out at the moment. SWTOR has gone so quiet that some fans are already talking about an impending stasis. But is that true?
PvP players are dissatisfied, want server consolidation: Particularly the PvP players of SWTOR are currently not pleased with the developer BioWare. There are ongoing complaints in the forums that ranked PvP is basically only possible for a few hours a day. There are simply not enough players to reliably enter battlegrounds.
The only solution that PvP enthusiasts see here is a merger of the servers. This has happened once in the past and at least led to very lively PvP matches for a few months.
Content attracts players and therefore no one is coming anymore: The biggest point of criticism is probably that SWTOR currently lacks fresh content. In the forums and on Reddit, players are craving new content and hope that the developers will soon announce a new expansion.
For a healthy amount of players that contribute to the economy and general activity of the servers can only be maintained by constantly new content. And this content has been missing for quite some time now, which is why the servers are slowly but surely becoming emptier.
Hunger for a roadmap: Many SWTOR players are currently somewhat directionless. Normally, the developers regularly release “roadmaps” and outline what they have planned for the upcoming weeks and months. However, this has not been the case for autumn 2018 yet.
However, it is expected that within the next three to four weeks a plan will be unveiled on how SWTOR will proceed in the near future.
For Battlefield 5, a new trailer has been released. While some are totally excited, others are turning to memes for help.
A new trailer for Battlefield V has been released and for many, it is exactly what they wanted from the start. However, EA also has to deal with many memes and dislikes.
Between Love and Making Fun
A look at the ratings of the new Battlefield 5 trailer “This is Battlefield V” shows that the gaming community is divided into at least two camps.
One side celebrates the new trailer and the gameplay footage shown – finally what fans have hoped for from a BF trailer
Others say they are too uneducated to understand the trailer. This is a meme based on a statement from EA and runs through numerous ratings
Why the meme? When Battlefield 5 showed that women play an important role in the game, some players were outraged. They accused the developers of placing more value on political correctness than on “real history”.
Patrick Söderlund was EA’s Chief Creative Officer until a few weeks ago and explained in this role: The people with this criticism are uneducated. They cannot imagine that this scenario would be plausible.
These direct words led to further criticism. Now people respond under EA’s posts that they are too uneducated to understand it. This is also the case under the new trailer on YouTube:
The Love for the Trailer is Also Clear
If you look at the comments in the Battlefield 5 subreddit, you can see that the developers have done a lot of things right with the new trailer. It says:
THIS is what should have been shown as a reveal
Good video, this was long overdue. Please more of this!
The title song is back! Sorry for being such a fanboy
3:12 the desert map looks extremely beautiful
Some comments on YouTube also critically yet positively express their views on the new video.
The game looks really good, it’s a shame no one is supposed to buy it
Apology accepted, game will be purchased
The gameplay looks good, it should probably be tried out
More Thumbs Up on YouTube
The criticized reveal trailer was rated with many thumbs down on YouTube. It was so many that there were more negative than positive ratings.
The new trailer has fared better and is currently (as of September 5) winning with positive votes. Even though there are still many negative ratings.
How did you like the new trailer for Battlefield 5? There were more insights into the battle royale mode Firestorm.
In 2018, a whole series of new, upcoming MMOs and online games are on the release lists. Find out here which new releases you can expect on PC or consoles (PS4 & Xbox One) and when you can anticipate betas or releases of the games.
In the following paragraphs, we present to you MMOs and online games with a “Games-as-a-Service” approach that (hopefully) will at least appear as a beta in 2018. We also have some purchasable expansions from major MMORPGs. We have organized them – as far as known – by quarters. But keep in mind that the dates can still change and are sometimes only roughly fixed. We update this list whenever there is new information.
Update: We last updated this article on September 5, 2018.
New MMOs and Online Games in Q1 2018
In the first quarter of 2018 (January to March), you can already expect a few promising titles. Among them is the console version of Monster Hunter World, which is set to release at the end of January. Here you can slay terrifying giant monsters at the side of cute cat creatures. The free-to-play anime MMO Closers focuses on plenty of action and a significant portion of story. Aliens attack Earth, and only a group of youths endowed with special powers can stop them. You play one of six of these heroes and battle through hordes of nasty aliens. Teamplay and the tactical use of combos are essential.
Total War: Arena combines the thrilling real-time battles from a Total War game like Rome or Shogun with the gameplay and progression of World of Tanks. After all, Wargaming was the publisher here. In Total War: Arena, you command a small part of a massive army of ancient troops. Each player on the team controls their unit grouping. The goal is to defeat the enemy. The more you win, the better troops you can lead into battle.
Shroud of the Avatar is a classic MMO that emphasizes housing and PvE. Furthermore, the game is said to feature a continuously evolving story and be playable offline.

By mid-year, things initially looked a bit bleak after Red Dead Redemption 2 was postponed to October. But then under the Q2 releases for 2018, there was still Bless, which starts in May in early access on Steam. The Asian MMORPG is once again a fully-fledged AAA online role-playing game after a long time. Distribution here in Germany will be managed by the Korean publisher and developer Neowiz itself.

The combat system is fast-paced and action-packed.
Realm Royale was supposed to be Paladins Battlegrounds. But then the development was turned upside down at the last minute. Now Realm Royale has become a completely standalone game. Realm Royale is inspired by Fortnite, but you build weapons instead of fortifications. Additionally, after your death, you become a chicken and can respawn if you survive long enough as a chicken.
The online racing game The Crew 2 by Ubisoft lets you race excitingly in an open world. You can switch between cars and motorcycles, boats, and planes and perform stunts and races with these vehicles. A highlight is the quick switch between vehicles.
The 3rd quarter of 2018 brings a true highlight for MMORPG fans with World of Warcraft: Battle for Azeroth. Additionally, the superhero MMO City of Titans could be released in autumn 2018, possibly in Q3. Late September is also traditionally the time when EA releases a new FIFA. World of Warcraft: Battle for Azeroth
Genre: MMORPG (Addon)
Platform: PC
Release: August 14, 2018
In 2018, the new addon “Battle for Azeroth” for World of Warcraft is planned. In it, the battle between Horde and Alliance is reignited. New PvP systems are introduced, in which you fight against the opposing faction. In addition, new races for both factions and two new continents are coming. So a lot of new content is coming for WoW in 2018.
Fear the Wolves is a battle royale game from the creators of Stalker, Vostok Games. Thus, you are back in the “Zone” of Chernobyl. There you fight each other and deal with mutant wolves as an additional challenge.
With Forsaken, the MMO shooter Destiny 2 receives a major new expansion. This time, your enemies are the monstrous Scorn. Additionally, a new PvE-PvP mode called “Gambit,” new Supers, a new weapon type, and a revamp of the current firearms are introduced.
Every year, a new FIFA comes out, so in 2018, FIFA 19 is on the agenda. The new version focuses on better gameplay, especially regarding ball control and shooting. Risk is expected to be more rewarded. In the Ultimate Team mode, the contents of the packages should become more transparent.
In Fortnite: Battle Royale (PC, PS4, iOS, Android, Switch & Xbox One) has once again caused trouble due to a bug. The professional player Nate Hill from Team FaZe potentially lost one of the matches simply because his pickaxe was bugged.
The bug with the pickaxe: A rare bug in Fortnite makes your pickaxe unusable. You can no longer break anything with it. This became Nate Hill from Team FaZe’s downfall in one of the final rounds of the Summer Skirmish.
Player gets stuck in a building, falls to death
What exactly happened to Nate Hill? One of the last rounds in the Summer Skirmish tournament was in its final seconds. The storm was closing in for the last time and Nate Hill was trapped in a tall building.
He needed to go down immediately to shoot the last remaining enemy before the storm would take care of Nate Hill.
So Nate pulled out the pickaxe and tried to hack through the floor of the building. But the bug prevented that. Thus, Nate Hill lost valuable seconds until he finally pulled out the shotgun and simply blasted the floor away.

However, that didn’t help, as Nate fell into the depths and crashed to the ground. The victory went to his opponent, and Hill himself reacted with considerable frustration, as you can see in the video.
Would he have won without the bug?
Controversial outcome: Whether the bug was truly the deciding factor in Nate Hill’s loss is controversial among the viewers of the game. He had fewer hitpoints than his opponent and would likely have soon perished in the storm.
On the other hand, Hill might have easily shot down his similarly wounded opponent with his weapon if he had escaped the building in time.
Moreover, the bug noticeably caused stress and distraction, as one must rely on the game functioning exactly as practiced, especially as a professional.
Much money is at stake: The Summer Skirmish, the first official Fortnite tournament, is equipped with $8 million in prize money. So there is a lot of money at stake, and a bug in the last seconds of a match is very unfortunate.
Unfortunately, it is not the first time bugs have plagued the major Fortnite tournament:
