Fans of Overwatch constantly create their own ideas for new heroes. But this hero here would be exactly what the game needs right now.
The meta of Overwatch is relatively stagnant. While you still see all kinds of heroes and combinations in the lower ranks, higher ranks often suffer from boredom. Especially two combinations clash repeatedly:
- GOATS (three tanks and three support characters)
- Double Sniper (Ana, Widowmaker or Hanzo)
These two archetypes of teams have slight variations, but fundamentally it’s “almost always the same,” and that bores many players. The hero concept from Reddit user Toxicinator describes the new character “Voltic.” As the name suggests, this is a hero who specializes in lightning and electricity.
What can the fan hero “Voltic” do?
Voltic would be a DPS hero with 150 health and 50 shields – so like other DPS heroes, he doesn’t have much durability. However, his passive effect grants him additional survivability. Whenever an attack would directly kill him from full health (like a sniper headshot), he is instead set to 5% health.
- His weapon is a railgun that starts off doing little damage but shoots faster and faster when the fire button is held down, increasing damage. It is a projectile weapon, so you need to fire “down the barrel” of enemies to hit them. A magazine holds 30 shots, and each hit deals 15 damage.
- Alternatively, he can fire a “Power Shock” with a 6-second cooldown, consuming 6 ammunition and delivering a small area effect. If the hit strikes an enemy or the immediate vicinity of the player, it will hit for 60 damage with a chain lightning effect that bounces for 45 damage to other nearby enemies.
- His other abilities are primarily control effects. The “Chain Shot” can stun hit enemies for one second and root them in place for a total of three seconds. The Electric Field creates a barrier that slows passing enemies by 50% for four seconds.
- Voltic’s ultimate, “Ball Lightning,” shoots an electric orb at a small target area, which stays there for a few seconds. Each second, an enemy within the range of “Power Shock” (see above) is hit, which can then bounce to other players. Supported by his other abilities, enemies are meant to be prevented from leaving the area too soon.

Voltic would shake up the meta, and Reddit users agree on that. He could immobilize forward-pushing heroes and would be a good counter option against heroes that stand too close together as a team. However, there is criticism that the concept is a bit overloaded and that Voltic simply “can do too much,” even though he has no active escape option.
