To introduce his daughters to Dungeons & Dragons without ignoring their own interests, a father created an adventure that combines both worlds. He is now presenting his idea as a campaign on Kickstarter to offer others this opportunity.
What did the father invent? On Kickstarter, Dan Thut presents his very first Kickstarter project, which originated from the curiosity of his three daughters. When the girls asked their father to play his beloved Dungeons & Dragons with them, he contemplated how best to teach the game to the kids.
“How can I introduce them to the hobby in a way that feels natural to them and isn’t just a watered-down version of my nostalgia?” he wondered, as he revealed in a conversation with Polygon.
The solution involved utilizing elements from the games, movies, and series that his daughters already enjoyed to create a familiar and child-friendly environment. The result became “Idols of the Neon Dark,” which he describes on the official Kickstarter page as a “neon-colored fantasy adventure for D&D 5e, where K-Pop idols fight demons with rhythm, style, and heart.”

What will the adventure include? Dan’s description of his self-created D&D adventure shows that he not only recognized his daughters’ love for Netflix’s K-Pop Demon Hunters but also understood it. In the world, “wild, stylish heroines” armed with blades, spells, and rhythm defend the innocent against demons and drive away evil.
To achieve this, the 80-page K-Pop setting will include the demon hunter as a new class, 12 monsters from Korean folklore, and 15 spells and magical items. The adventure spans 40 pages, with various story arcs and NPCs to accompany the narrative.
Since the adventure was developed not only because of but especially for his daughters, it provides the opportunity to tone down the brutality of a campaign for children or to utilize it when appropriate for their age.
How is his project on Kickstarter doing? So far, Dan’s Kickstarter is being followed by 778 users and supported by 25 people, but the number is not very important to him. There is also no planned release date yet (as of December 18, 2025, 7 PM). The concept is still in a testing phase to determine whether the combination of K-Pop and Dungeons & Dragons attracts interest.
Whether it will truly become a success in the community is also something Dan cannot yet say. However, he has a much simpler, modest goal, as he tells Polygon: “If parents can introduce their children to D&D this way and those children grow up with the memory of having been heroes together, then that is a win.”
