On October 5th at 10 AM, an event to celebrate Detective Pikachu Returns will start in Pokémon GO. During this event, there will be some bonuses and a new chance to get what is probably the rarest Shiny in the game.
What happens at the event? The game “Master Detective Pikachu Returns” will be released on Nintendo Switch, but it’s not just for Switch players to celebrate. There will also be a corresponding accompanying event in Pokémon GO where you can collect some bonuses. Among other things, one of the rarest Shinys: Pikachu with detective hat.
Why is it so rare? Pikachu with detective hat was only available in the game during the movie launch of “Detective Pikachu” in 2019. At that time, it was not possible to catch the Pokémon in shiny, this was only possible through a trick.

On the evening of October 4, Blizzard announced in a developer stream on Twitch that their title Diablo 4 will indeed be released on the PC platform Steam. The release date is set for October 17. Diablo 4 will bring achievements and will work on the Steam Deck.

What does it look like? In Final Fantasy XIV, there is a Duty Support System that allows players to complete dungeons and trials with NPCs, without needing other real players. The only exceptions are the more challenging alliance raids and 8-player trials, for which a group of fellow players is still required.
This system was introduced in the Shadowbringers expansion. A great option to play through the main story alone or to skip the annoying waiting (at certain times) for players.
Square Enix has gradually expanded this system to include further expansions. With the latest patch 6.5, you can now also complete Stormblood dungeons entirely with the Duty Support System and the latest story dungeon from Endwalker. This way, you can almost play through the entire main story alone.

Eternal Tombs – formerly War of Dragnorox – is a new indie MMORPG with an interesting idea. A system has been introduced that allows Game Masters to influence the gaming experience at any time and very easily. This system was explained in more detail in a video.
How does it work with the Game Masters? Essentially, Eternal Tombs aims to be an old-school sandbox MMORPG, with a clear focus on PvE. In addition to 30 areas and 19 different raids at launch, it especially wants to shine with its unique GM system.
In the game world, there are hundreds of trigger points where random events can occur. These events are reprogrammed by the Game Masters every day and can also be spontaneously created, for example when a large community gathers in one place.
The video featured bosses, raids, waves of mobs, and special victory events, but also lore elements, NPCs, special quests, or hidden treasures. The terrain itself can also be changed, for example by blockages or their removal. In the video, a stone was removed, which opened a trapdoor to a dungeon.

Eternal Tombs wanted to become more modern, but not everything is running smoothly yet
What do we still know about the MMORPG? Eternal Tombs focuses on physical damage and less on magic. You have the choice of 6 different classes: Warrior, Ranger, Bombardier, Manipulator, Chloromancer, and Bonestitcher.
Originally, the battles were supposed to use classic tab-targeting, but recently a switch to an action combat system was announced. While it looks more dynamic, it does not appear nearly as fluid as in Black Desert or New World. However, there are some cool elements, such as the screen turning black when enemies blind you.
The MMORPG revolves a lot around the hunt for the perfect equipment. This should make you up to five times stronger than other players at the same level.
Overall, the game is expected to be rather difficult, so you will need to form groups. Solo play has not been ruled out, however.
What about the shop? Eternal Tombs completely forgoes a shop, box purchases, or crowdfunding packages. You only need to have the subscription of 9.99 euros active to enter the game world.
It is being developed in Unreal Engine 5 and features a very minimalist UI. For example, you will not see damage numbers, and there will be no minimap.
What about beta events and release? On the official website you can already register for a beta. However, when exactly it will start is unknown. Originally, the third quarter of 2023 was planned, but the date has been postponed indefinitely – also due to changes to the combat system.

Blizzard plans to release annual expansions for Diablo 4. This was confirmed by Blizzard’s Franchise Manager Rod Fergusson in an interview with Dexerto in September. The DLCs are supposed to complement the quarterly seasons, with the second starting on October 17.

On what is Rhykker’s prediction based? According to Blizztrack, one of Blizzard’s internal testing environments for Diablo 4 has been updated to version 2.0. Blizztrack pulls data from Blizzard’s internal “Content Delivery Network” (CDN).
What are content delivery networks?
CDNs are networks of regionally distributed and internet-connected servers. They provide storage and delivery capacities based on high-traffic infrastructure. In the case of gaming companies like Blizzard, CDNs are used, for example, to deploy patches or provide expansions for playtesting.
Rhykker has gone through the past updates and found that the alphas, server tests, and beta weekends can be combined with corresponding version updates on Blizztrack. These were pre-launch versions with numbers like 0.9. The launch version was 1, while the game is currently running on version 1.1.4.
The current version status as of October 4, 2023, around 2 PM
It is absolutely uncommon to adjust the major version prefix for small patches and bug fixes. An update to 2.0, therefore, indicates a relatively large content and version jump. Diablo 3 was only updated to version 2.0.1 with its first DLC.
Rhykker concludes from the update to 2.0 that the first DLC is far enough along in development that an early version is ready for first playtests by selected individuals.

Below, Rhykker goes through the expansions for Diablo 2 and Diablo 3 and their contents:
Diablo 2 was expanded with Lord of Destruction a year after its release. New content included Act 5, two new classes, and a lot of new features.
The expansion Reaper of Souls for Diablo 3, on the other hand, was released two years after the launch of the main game. This expansion also brought a fifth act for the story, the adventure mode, and the loot drop was revised. Unfortunately, the expansion only added a new class. The release was also the console launch of the game.

The whole concept sounded so wild that I had to check out The Alters at gamescom 2023. The two developers Tomasz Kisilewicz (Game Director) and Rafał Włosek (Lead Designer) showed me their game in a gameplay presentation. So I didn’t play myself, but made myself comfortable on the couch and let them show and explain everything.
The two are visibly nervous presenting The Alters. They are not at all sure whether the philosophical concept behind the game will be well received – it worked quite well for me.
Tomasz and Rafał guide me through their space station. By the way, you expand it yourself, as base building is part of the game. The two show a point in the game where there are already several Jans on the station. Quickly, it all feels like a psychedelic trip.

There is a Jan who is rather rational and works on board as a scientist. For him, logic and a sober view of life count. Then there is a Jan who seems impulsive and emotional. He is the mechanic on the ship and is struggling with the pressure of the situation at the moment, talking about pain in his arm.
As the original Jan, the chief Jan on the station, I have to take care of all my Jans so that they can fulfill their tasks. The mechanic Jan wants strong sedatives, which could negatively affect his work. As chief Jan, I can decide how to handle this.
It quickly feels like I am running a kindergarten. Only that the kindergarten is my own character, and you actually discuss with yourself the whole time.
How do you get alternative versions of yourself? I wasn’t quite clear on this, so I delved deeper into the game concept behind it with the two developers.
Imagine you have a tree with different branches. In one branch, Jan might have decided to marry a woman, after which he moves in with her and embarks on a certain career.
While you explore the planet, the alternative Jans are completing tasks on the ship.
If you manipulate this life tree in the lab so that Jan has taken a different branch, you get a new Jan. If he doesn’t marry the woman, he doesn’t move in with her, but perhaps goes to university and focuses entirely on his career.
This means this Jan has different experiences and comes with different knowledge, different skills. Essentially, the new Jan is still Jan.
The original Jan and the alternative Jan share the same past until the point of decision. Through the new decision and the new experience, a new personality has developed, where certain traits of Jan come to the fore more strongly.

In my conversation with Tomasz and Rafał, I was too busy talking about the alternative versions of Jan. This is of course a concept that has been explored countless times in science fiction.
But it often deals with traveling to the past or parallel worlds and experiencing an alternative version of oneself. Being confronted with alternative versions of oneself sparked my thoughts in a completely different way.
Discussing with yourself can be exhausting.
Quickly, Tomasz, Rafał, and I discussed, for example, which Jan would take out the trash if nobody felt like it, and how you actually argue against yourself.
I see myself playing The Alters on a balmy autumn day. Autumn is known as the time of transience, where one can reflect on life. Because it’s hard to engage with The Alters without also thinking a bit about one’s own life and the alternatives that could have been offered if one had taken a different path.
