Jeff Kaplan has announced a new feature for Overwatch that will be released even before BlizzCon. This feature will please both eSports fans and help ambitious players.
Viewer Mode for Overwatch is coming: In the latest developer update of Overwatch, Overwatch head Jeff Kaplan introduced the “Overwatch World Cup Viewer”. The new feature will be a kind of professional viewing mode.
What does the Viewer Mode bring in Overwatch?
More control when watching matches: With the “Overwatch World Cup Viewer”, you can follow all matches of the Overwatch World Cup live. You have various options for viewing:
- First-person camera perspective
- Third-person camera perspective
- Bird’s-eye view with player icons and details
The details in the bird’s-eye view include things like ultimate status or health points. The various settings of the viewer mode correspond to those professional analysts and casters use for eSports events such as the Overwatch League.
In the Overwatch League, something similar was already attempted with the “All Access Pass”. With this, you have access to the “Command Center”, where you can view different perspectives. The Viewer Mode is intended to enhance this experience.
Replays are also possible: In addition to being able to watch games live, all matches of the semifinals and finals can also be viewed later as replays.
You can even set different speeds in the replays or make time jumps. This allows you to take a closer look at special situations in the game and see how the professionals master them.
The mode will come before BlizzCon: According to Kaplan, the Viewer Mode for Overwatch will go into beta testing before the BlizzCon. However, this is only possible for PC players, as the Battle.net client is required.
Once the test is completed, the team plans to further develop the mode for all platforms and for all game modes. You will then also be able to watch your own matches.
What is this mode useful for?
If you are not exactly eSports fans and want to see every match in detail, the Overwatch World Cup Viewer will still help you. With the replay feature, you can learn the tricks of the professionals.
However, it is especially useful when you watch your own games afterward. Watching and analyzing past matches is a common practice in other games like Heroes of the Storm.
You can take a close look through various perspectives and speeds at where you made mistakes or played particularly well. Professionals use this to improve, but it works for every player.
The Viewer Mode makes these things more accessible. With the new feature, you can also watch special moments more frequently. Like Genji, who eliminates an entire team with the help of the opposing Torbjörn .
You will also soon be able to view your favorite characters live in detail, with these 5 spectacular LEGO sets for Overwatch.
