Zenyatta, a healer from Overwatch, could soon get a buff. At least, Jeff Kaplan hints at changes.
No one wants to play Zenyatta – is that why a buff is coming?
Of all the heroes available in Overwatch, the support Zenyatta is among the least popular. Until recently, this was due to Widowmaker being able to kill the omnic monk with a single body shot, but that has since been changed. Nevertheless, it seems that hardly any player can warm up to playing this healer. The user Freshmeat simply asked the clear question in the official forum: “Hey, Jeff, what is your opinion (and the team’s) on Zenyatta?”
Jeff Kaplan, the Game Director of Overwatch, has responded to this question.
“We have talked about him [Zenyatta]. We want to first see how the changes to Widowmaker and McCree play out before we make any further changes. We are currently experimenting a bit with him. But I can’t share anything about that yet.”
A buff for Zenyatta seems very likely, although the possibilities for that are limited. His attacks are quite powerful, and the “Orb of Discord” can quickly turn even sturdy tanks into kindling. One possibility would be to increase his hit points or shield energy (for example, to 200).
D.Va is also on the list of heroes to be strengthened, and has been for quite some time. So far, Blizzard has not announced when exactly she will be improved. However, everything points to the next “big” patch in the summer – most likely in August.
Mein-MMO says: One can’t really explain the aversion to Zenyatta. He is not only the “strongest” supporter, who can also deal damage well, but he is also the only one who makes no footstep sounds, allowing him to move around the map quite unnoticed. It remains to be seen whether Blizzard will succeed in making the omnic monk Zenyatta more attractive.
