The former head of Overwatch, Jeff Kaplan, has a final message and warns all players about Overwatch 2. At least, that’s what a YouTuber humorously puts in his mouth.
Overwatch 2 is just about to launch and is dividing the community. Many are excited about the new features and the “relaunch” of the game, while there is also a lot of criticism about the Battle Pass or the unlocking of new heroes. Along with the release, an “old YouTube legend” has reemerged – Dinoflask. He enjoys an extremely good reputation in the Overwatch 2 community and is now delighting fans with a new video.
YouTuber becomes well-known and popular with “reinterpretation” of Jeff Kaplan
Who is Dinoflask? Dinoflask is a YouTuber known for a specific type of video: parodies about Overwatch. Earlier, there were often so-called “Developer Updates,” in which the former Game Director Jeff Kaplan spoke about the game. Dinoflask took these videos, edited them differently, and created a completely different narrative. He puts words in Jeff Kaplan’s mouth that he never actually said in this context and spins his own stories.
Most of it consists of the idea that all changes in the game only happen so that Jeff Kaplan always wins and can squeeze more tears from the players.
Dinoflask’s works are extremely popular for parody videos, often garnering around 500,000 views, sometimes even reaching the million mark.
Although Jeff Kaplan has been bitterly parodied in the videos, he has actually liked them a lot – he even invited Dinoflask to his 15-year company anniversary at Blizzard.
Since Jeff Kaplan left Blizzard last April, things have been quiet around Dinoflask – until now.
What can be seen in the video? In the latest video “Overwatch 2 – A New Era,” Dinoflask allows the former head developer Jeff Kaplan to reappear. Aaron Keller (the new head) explains that they have realized that they developed Overwatch 2 with the goal of disappointing players regarding the release of new content. “If you are interested in Overwatch 2, we look forward to […] getting you to pay for new features, maps, and new heroes.”
Then, Jeff Kaplan “hacks” into Aaron Keller’s developer update. Kaplan explains that his time is limited and he must quickly relay important information.
Aaron Keller is actually a robot that Kaplan assembled from a PlayStation, an Xbox, and a PC. In the beginning, Kaplan could still influence the development of Overwatch 2 after his resignation, but now the mech has completely gone out of control and decides unilaterally about the fate of Overwatch 2:
“It is unpredictable what horrors he will bring to the gaming community. It starts with Doomfist becoming a tank, but it ends with Keller being in a tank [Tank] – in front of your house demanding to see your Overwatch 2 preorder.”
In good old Dinoflask fashion, the video is not only a loving parody but also often filled with dark humor. Kaplan explains that he has followed the discussions in the forum about his departure. He has read theories that he was fired for “driving into a group of Mei cosplayers with a car,” that he “did not meet his weekly quota of sexual assaults,” or that he “drank rum in the office and groped himself.” A pitch-black reference to the sexism scandal at Blizzard.

The new Overwatch head reacts: The video has not gone unnoticed by the Overwatch team. The new Game Director, Aaron Keller, has already reacted to the video on Twitter – and apparently takes it with humor. He says:
I could never quite figure out what I was missing, but today I finally feel like a real Game Director of Overwatch 😀 😀 😀
Community reacts enthusiastically: The reactions to the video are overwhelmingly positive and sometimes even very emotional. For many fans, Jeff Kaplan and the Dinoflask parodies are an important part of Overwatch’s identity. In the comments on YouTube and the Overwatch subreddit, it is said:
