Blizzard has released the first lore video for Overwatch in the usual cinematic quality. Check out Winston’s backstory here.
The Science Gorilla from the Moon – Winston
Just a few days ago, Blizzard announced that they would finally bring backstory information about the characters of Overwatch to life in moving images, starting with the video “Recall,” which primarily focuses on Winston’s background story. The gorilla from the moon has quite a fondness for bananas, peanut butter, and glasses, but a rather short temper. Oh, and he is a scientist too.
The 8-minute video shows the kind-hearted Winston living his lonely existence in an abandoned Overwatch base. Overwatch has long been disbanded, and the world is slowly sinking back into chaos, yet Winston could act against the existing laws with a click and call all agents back together. What this has to do with Reaper, you should find out for yourself.
Mein-MMO says: Blizzard simply knows how to create cinematics. After the announcement of the small “lore snippets” that players should receive, I honestly expected short videos of about 2 minutes in length. However, the fact that Blizzard is kicking off with nearly 8 minutes and thereby overshadowing the original intro cinematic gives hope. And eagerness for more. It seems that Winston’s video is just the first piece of a puzzle that will soon come together with many more into a larger whole.
Especially great are the many details and the humor of the video (even Athena’s announcement voice takes a break so the soldier has time to get thrown through the window). Those with good eyes can even recognize outstanding characters that are in the Overwatch database – a little spoiler for what the future may hold?
