Good things take time. Those who win too quickly in Overwatch may be punished by the game.
Time is a very important factor in Overwatch, especially in competitive mode where every second on the timer counts. So, if you successfully capture the enemy control point with the first attack right at the start of the match, you have significantly more time on a “Payload” map to push the payload a few meters further. But this is exactly where Overwatch undermines its own strategy. Watch this short clip to understand the issue:
There is still the following rule: If a player leaves the game within the first 60 seconds of the match, the entire round is canceled. No change in skill ratings takes place for either team; only the “escaped” person receives a loss.
Meanwhile, a trend seems to be developing where a team member simply leaves the match as soon as a very early setback looms, meaning only one player has to endure a loss of their skill rating. Whether Blizzard will take action against this issue is still unknown. However, it will likely only take a few days before Jeff Kaplan or another staff member comments on the topic, as more and more incidents of this nature are appearing in the official forums.
Cortyn says: A pretty cowardly and extremely unsportsmanlike way to turn one’s own failure into shame for the opponent. I can only hope that Blizzard finds a solution or imposes harsh penalties if it can be proven against teams. Those who compete in competitive mode must be prepared for not winning every time.
