The next patch of Overwatch targets the tanks. They will lose a lot of shield energy, but will receive a bit of compensation.
The next patch has appeared on the PTR of Overwatch, bringing a whole range of changes to the existing heroes. In particular, tanks have to expect some adjustments – their shield barriers will be significantly weakened. But other heroes such as Torbjörn, Widowmaker, Genji, and a few more will also be adjusted.
How Overwatch heroes are changing in the next patch
Here we have listed all the changes to the heroes and gameplay mechanics for you.
General
- Armor now reduces damage taken by 5 instead of just 3.
Orisa
- General
- Base armor has been increased from 200 to 250.
- Fusion Cannon
- The penalty to movement speed has been reduced from 30% to 20%.
- Protection Barrier
- Health points have been reduced from 900 to 600.
- Defensive Protocol
- Cooldown has been reduced from 10 seconds to 8 seconds.
Sigma
- Experimental Barrier
- Health points have been reduced from 1500 to 900.
- The barrier now regenerates 120 instead of 150 health points per second.
- Kinetic Grasp
- Cooldown has been reduced from 13 seconds to 10 seconds.
- The damage converted to shield energy has been increased from 40% to 60%.
Reinhardt
- Barrier Field
- Health points have been reduced from 2000 to 1600.
- The penalty to movement speed has been reduced from 50% to 25%.
- Steadfast (Passive)
- Resistance to knockback effects has been increased from 30% to 50%.
Moira
- Biotic Grasp
- Healing has been reduced from 4 to 3.25 (equivalent to 65 HP per second instead of 80 HP per second)
D.Va
- Defense Matrix
- Cooldown has been reduced from 2 seconds to 1.5 seconds.
Widowmaker
- Grappling Hook
- Cooldown has been increased from 10 seconds to 12 seconds.
Torbjörn
- Overload
- Cooldown has been reduced from 12 seconds to 10 seconds.
Genji
- Shuriken
- The amount of ammo has been increased from 24 to 30.
Zarya
- Particle Cannon (Alternate Fire)
- The radius of the explosion has been increased from 2 meters to 2.5 meters.
- The ammo cost has been reduced from 25 to 20.
Why are tanks being nerfed? Blizzard wants to reduce the time players spend shooting at barriers. This makes “turtling” as a tactic less effective and real damage will be dealt more quickly. This should have a positive impact on the pace of Overwatch, leading to faster fights.
At the same time, the affected tanks have received buffs in other areas so that they can become a bit better in their specific roles and assist the team with other effects.

What else does the patch bring? Aside from the numerous changes to the heroes, the patch also includes various bug fixes and new game modes while waiting for a “real” match. Since the role queue, players have sometimes had to wait longer for matches. During the waiting time, players can now sign up for almost all game modes, including the practice room, Death Match, Skirmish, and even custom games.
