An exploit in Overwatch can cause the game and even your PC to crash. Some miscreants shamelessly take advantage of this.
In Overwatch, it can currently happen that your game crashes or you are thrown out of ongoing matches. Often this is caused by a teammate who spams a lot of emotes. So quickly that it can paralyze the entire game and even slow down your computer.
What kind of error is this? Basically, the error is only triggered when a teammate deliberately tries to provoke it. The streamer Metro experienced this when the game suddenly began to stutter heavily and the latency of all players shot up.
The clip from Metro on Twitch has unfortunately already been deleted.
The reason was that a player started issuing voice commands at a breakneck speed, at such a frequency that not only the game slowed down, but the entire PC as well. This then affects the whole team and can cause the match to be canceled or the PC to freeze up due to overload.
The streamer Stevo was also plagued by this problem when a Junkrat suddenly spammed the “Understood” voiceline repeatedly:
How can you protect yourself against this? Preventively protecting against this spam and the associated problems is almost impossible unless you mute all players in advance. However, this is probably not very effective in a cooperative game like Overwatch because often the team with better communication wins.
If you have such a player in your match, quickly open the menu and block all voice commands of this player. You should also report the player and ideally add them to the “avoid this player” list.
In normal circumstances, it would be nearly impossible to flood the game with so many voice commands that this error occurs. The exploiters obviously use macros or other software to send the commands at breakneck speed.
If you encounter such a player, report them – as their behavior clearly violates the terms of service and is likely to lead to a ban quickly.
Besides, Blizzard is probably working diligently to fix the error.
