The popular Overwatch player and Twitch streamer Félix “xQc” Lengyel seems to have been a bit confused. A Twitter post triggered his concern of being unemployed: Because the team Overwatch Legion is withdrawing from the 2nd division of Overwatch.
What is this post about? It concerns the announcement from the professional team Gladiators Legion. The Legion is the academy team of the Overwatch League team LA Gladiators. It was supposed to compete in the Contenders.
The Contenders are the “entry league” to the Overwatch League. Here, professionals and aspiring professionals can begin to earn real money with video games.
However, this will not happen for the Legion.
In the tweet, the organization announces that Legion will not participate in the Contenders in 2020. Instead, they are parting ways with all members and thank them for their previous collaboration. The team will therefore be dissolved.
xQc confused, Legion clarifies
That’s why xQc is confused: The streamer xQc watched this tweet live in his stream. His reaction was a bit incredulous:
“Does this mean I’m losing my job? Was I just fired?”

xQc was signed by the e-sports organization Sentinels in February after he broke up with Overwatch (via Sentinels). The Sentinels manage the LA Gladiators and the Gladiators Legion.
xQc was therefore introduced as a substitute tank for the Legion.
However, xQc never played a game for the Legion. Nevertheless, xQc (and the rest of the world) thought until recently that xQc was working for this team. After all, that’s how he was presented.
Team leader says: “He’s not with us at all.”
This is what the bosses say: The vice president of the team, Alex Rubens, clarifies the situation in a thread on reddit:
We had a call with the entire team before we made the announcement. We answered all questions, addressed all issues.
xQc is a Sentinels employee, not GLA Legion, and he has never played a single match for the Legion.
We made sure that all players knew this long before the announcement.

Community concerned
Mockery and concern in the community: Some users are looking at xQc a bit worried with this information. They find it strange that he even thinks he has been fired. As one user, reddit user Uiluj, writes: “It worries me that he [xQc] signed a contract he doesn’t understand.”
Uiluj adds that people like xQc can be exploited so easily if they are not careful. Other users also wonder how long it will take before someone takes advantage of his apparent ignorance.
They also point out that xQc seems to be too carefree about his career. He probably only found out about his ban in the Overwatch League through a tweet since he doesn’t read his emails.
Was xQc just the “mascot” for a professional team?
What’s behind it: xQc is one of the bigger Twitch streamers with 1.8 million followers, but despite his 24 years, he doesn’t always seem very “business-minded.”
xQc was officially signed by a “professional team” and publicly introduced as a “substitute player for the second team.” That’s how it was communicated.
In reality, xQc was probably not meant to be deployed at all, but was only supposed to serve as a streaming figure, as a content creator, for the Sentinels.
The position as “substitute player for the 2nd team” seemed to be taken seriously by no one—except xQc. Therefore, no one informed him that his team would be dissolved.
