In Overwatch the trolls are becoming increasingly inventive. Thanks to a social feature, they can target players for harassment.
Trolls disguised as friends
If there is one thing to give trolls credit for, it is their creativity, which fuels the desire to be as annoying as possible. Unfortunately, toxic players are a common occurrence in Overwatch and they take great pleasure in ruining other players’ days.
Typically, a troll will limit themselves to a single game, and after the current match ends, you never see that player again. This was also the thought of Reddit user carta, who told the troll goodbye:
“Fortunately, Overwatch has so many players, so I’ll never have to play with you again.”
However, the troll did not take this lightly and promptly proved the opposite: Game after game, he could follow his “victim” into matches and was assigned to them as if by magic.
The reason for this is the social feature that Overwatch has implemented. Anyone who looks at the list of players they have last played with can not only send friend requests or report unwanted behavior, but also “prefer player”. The matchmaking then tries to have these players play together more often, as at least one of the two apparently had a nice gaming experience. This allows the trolling player to repeatedly show up in games to ambush their victim.
Fortunately, you can easily thwart the troll’s plans by blocking the respective player. This is also possible in the social menu and should override the troll’s “prefer player” setting. So if an unwanted attachment keeps appearing, just block him. That should keep you safe.
