In Overwatch you only win if all players cooperate well as a team. Therefore, a particularly audacious player developed a new tactic: “Pay me something or I will ruin everything for you!”
In Blizzard’s hero shooter Overwatch, teamwork is especially important. Only those who work well with their teammates and choose the right heroes have a chance to win. If someone does not master their character well enough, they may ruin the victory and fun for everyone.
Mistakes happen. It’s less serious if you just had a bad day or are still new to the game.
Overwatch – “Pay up or you lose!”
Things look completely different when a player intentionally plays poorly, hindering their own team and throwing away the victory. Trolls and “funny guys” do this out of pure malice and spite, but a player on PlayStation took it to the extreme. He demanded 5 US dollars from every teammate before the game, insisting they transfer it to his PayPal account.
Otherwise, he would refuse to participate in the game. No one paid a cent to the troll.
As a result, he ruthlessly made his threat come true, choosing and blocking the tactically important healer Ana and acted like a fool by repeatedly throwing himself into enemy fire, thus giving the enemy valuable ultimate charges.
Overwatch – Blizzard does not respond
In the end, the round went, of course, down the drain and the remaining players were flabbergasted by such audacity. Therefore, the affected player “Emaias” contacted Blizzard’s customer service to hold the troll accountable. However, Blizzard shifted the responsibility for the incident to Sony, as Overwatch was played on their console.
Sony, in turn, also did not see itself as responsible and referred the case back to Blizzard. So far, nothing concrete has been heard from them on the topic. Also, a corresponding popular forum post by Emaias has yet to receive a constructive response. However, it is rather questionable that Blizzard tolerates such behavior for a long time.
What do you think about this? Have you experienced something like this, and how should one deal with such trolls? Let us know in the comments!
