Another hero from Overwatch will soon be reworked. The Swedish hero Torbjörn will be significantly changed.
The Overwatch team has been talking a lot about balancing and changes planned for the upcoming weeks and months. Currently, the “new Hanzo” is being tested on the PTR, but Blizzard has already revealed that other heroes will also receive fundamental reworks.
Next on the list is the support hero Symmetra, who will even be converted into a defense hero.
But even this does not conclude the long-term planning. In an interview with PCGamesN, lead designer Geoff Goodman announced another rework:
The defensive hero Torbjörn is getting a rework.
Goodman has not yet specified concrete planned changes. It was only mentioned that the rework would begin once the work on Hanzo and Symmetra is completed.
Why does Torbjörn need a rework?
There are likely several reasons for Torbjörn’s rework.
Overall, Torbjörn has a very low pick rate of only 0.57%. In contrast, however, is the high frequency with which he achieves victories. In just over 55% of all cases, Torbjörn and his team actually win. However, due to the low pick rate, this result should be taken with caution.
At the same time, many players find Torbjörn’s playstyle very boring. Often, it is said that it’s all about setting up the turret somewhere and then constantly repairing it.
On consoles, where aiming is more difficult and the turret can therefore deal more damage, Torbjörn is often labeled as a “fun killer”.
Generally, Torbjörn players often have a similarly bad reputation as those of Symmetra – the hero simply doesn’t fit into too many situations.
What do you think of Torbjörn in his current state? What changes do you think are necessary?
In the future, Overwatch will also get more heroes with clear role assignments.
