A new Overwatch mode makes Reaper a boss like from the anime “JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure.” He has just too insane abilities.
In Overwatch, there has been the “Workshop” for quite a while now. Here, talented and creative players can develop their own game modes for Blizzard’s hero shooter. In the past, we have presented some interesting concepts here, like Super Smash Bros. or the Sparta mode.
But one mode crowns it all. The player Therister pulls out all the stops of the workshop and has developed an extremely cool and complex boss fight. It is an asymmetrical game mode – multiple players fight as a team and one player takes on the role of the boss.

How does the mode work? The mode represents a boss fight as known from asymmetrical games. The team takes on heroes of their choice while the player controls Reaper. However, he does not have his usual abilities, but a whole set of skills with which he can manipulate time. This makes him extremely strong and hard to catch.
The game ends when the team can kill the boss (Reaper) a total of 5 times or when Reaper achieves 25 kills beforehand.
[Workshop] – Custom time-manipulating boss fight! Five unique abilities – Stop time, reverse time, slow down time, speed up time, or even trap your enemies in a paradoxical time loop! – “Time Paradox” by Therister – CODE: WR6S2 from r/Overwatch
What can the boss do? Reaper’s abilities have received special tricks in this mode. Not only does he have twice the usual health points, but he can also manipulate time in various ways to deal with the numerical superiority of opponents.
- Time Stop: When Reaper uses “Phantom,” it not only has its usual effect, but time freezes for all other players. They cannot move until Reaper ends his Phantom mode. This means that Reaper can position himself perfectly for a headshot.
- Time Reverse: When Reaper uses his Shadow Step, he is not only teleported to the target position but also rewinds the time of all other players by 4 seconds. They move back to their old position and their health points and ultimate charge are also reset to the previous state. Reaper’s health points are reset as well, but not his ultimate charge.
- Slow-Motion Grenade: Using the interact key (default: F), Reaper can throw a grenade. Enemies hit are trapped in “Slow Motion” for several seconds. They move extremely slowly, their projectiles fly at reduced speed, and their mouse sensitivity is lower, making aiming more difficult.
- Acceleration Dart: With the alternate fire (right click), Reaper can shoot an acceleration arrow at an opponent. Hit opponents move much faster, their projectiles fly faster, and their mouse sensitivity is drastically increased. However, their bodies quickly decay, taking a lot of damage over time.
- Ultimate – Time Paradox: When activated, all enemies are trapped in a time loop. They experience the last 5 seconds three more times in a row and cannot control their character during that time. This means that all players (except Reaper) perform their actions identically – 3 times in a row. Reaper can move and shoot freely during this time but cannot use any other abilities.
The community is very enthusiastic: This game mode is likely one of the most popular that fans have created in Overwatch. In the Overwatch subreddit, it has received many upvotes and an extremely high approval rating of 99% – an absolute rarity in that subreddit.
Players are very impressed and compare the fight to various enemies from the anime “JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure” (link to the anime stream). There, too, the adversaries always have increasingly absurd abilities.
How can you play the mode? If you are excited about the game mode, you can try it out in the workshop. For this, you need to use the code “WR6S2,” which is the latest version at the moment (12/16/2019, 14:45). You can also play the mode while waiting for another match – it is perfect for playing a few rounds in between.
What do you think about this game mode? Extremely impressive what Therister has created? Or is it rubbish?
