A patch from Blizzard has disappointed the competitive community of Overwatch The timing for the update was simply poorly chosen.
Yesterday we reported that players of Overwatch can now earn a new skin and several other cosmetic items. The new cosmetics featuring “D.Va and the Nano Cola” were spontaneously introduced into the game with a patch.
But this very patch has made competitive players angry.
What happened? The last season of Overwatch was only five hours away from ending, so many players tried to achieve a higher rating in the final moments.
At that time, the promotion for “D.Va Nano Cola” was launched. This skin caused many players around the world to want to jump back into Overwatch. The servers became overloaded, and as a result, numerous players were kicked out of their ongoing matches.
What is the consequence? Many players who were in ranked matches at the time of the patch received a loss. After all, a “disconnect” also counts as a loss, even if Blizzard’s servers are to blame.
This means a loss of 50 skill rating, which is particularly frustrating at higher ranks. The work of several matches can easily be lost here.
What the players demand: For the next update, Blizzard should choose a better timing and at least not spontaneously launch a new event in the last hours of a ranked season. Many players in competitive mode are now upset and wish that their rating could be corrected afterwards.
The developer remains silent. Blizzard has not yet commented on the issue. Since the Reddit post has received nearly 21,000 upvotes, the developers are likely aware of the anger. In the next patch, the developers may adjust the timing better.
Were you affected by this as well? Or were you among the players who rushed to the servers immediately to earn the new skin?
