Blizzard addresses the biggest annoyance of Overwatch: Roadhog’s hook is being changed after much pleading.
Few problems in Overwatch irritate players as much as Roadhog’s hook. While it generally works as intended, the 5% of situations where something strange happens remain memorable.
This daring little guy often manages to pull people “around corners” or even hit with the hook, despite not being able to see the enemy. Not to mention the rare cases where the hook has an abnormal range and pulls a teleporting Sombra across the entire map.
In the official forum, Jeff Kaplan has addressed the increasing complaints and announced that a new patch will soon be tested on the PTR – possibly later this week.
The biggest innovation will be the “Line of Sight” check being added to the hook. In short, this means: If Roadhog cannot see the victim, then the hook should not be able to hit. But there is also another check. Once the hook has found its target, another verification occurs: Is the hook still in line of sight with Roadhog? If yes, the target is pulled in. If no, the hook breaks and the victim is freed.
However, these changes also lead to some improvements for Roadhog, as the victim of the hook should now always land directly in front of him and no longer slightly offset to the left or right – which was particularly common with Lúcio. There, the victim is then immediately met by the scattergun.
How exactly these changes will affect gameplay will be tested on the PTR in the coming weeks. Also note that these changes are not final and may change before release.
