Overwatch continues to tinker with its heroes. This time, it is Doomfist who is likely facing a “nerf” soon.
Game Designer talks about nerfs: At BlizzCon 2018, Game Designer Joshua Noh spoke with pro gamer Lane “Surefour” Roberts from the “LA Gladiators” during his livestream. According to Noh, the team is currently testing some internal changes to Doomfist.
Less Range – Doomfist lives more dangerously
What will be nerfed? According to Noh, two abilities of Doomfist are set to become weaker:
- The Seismic Slam
- The Uppercut
The seismic slam will have a range reduced from 20 meters to only 15 meters. The damage of the charge will be lowered from 86 to 65. This should also impact his passively built shield.
The uppercut will only deprive the victim of control for 0.6 seconds, meaning only for the duration of the hit itself. A complete rework of the hero remains unlikely.
This is what changes due to the nerf: The reduced distance on the seismic slam changes the range within which Doomfist can effectively attack and escape.
He can no longer jump into an opposing team without the risk of not being able to get out or being caught.
The team decided on these changes after the nerf addressed by Kaplan to Doomfist’s Rocket Punch did not go well with testers. The Rocket Punch will retain its range for now, while the other skills will be weakened.
When will the patch come? Noh has not yet specified an exact time. He simply responded with “soon,” which has become a meme at Blizzard. “Soon” often means an indefinite time of several months for Blizzard.
However, since the changes here are already concrete and “soon” in Overwatch usually tends to be shorter, the patch might land on the PTR in a few days or weeks.
First, however, the release of the new hero Ashe seems to be on the horizon, who has been playable on the Overwatch PTR for several days now.
What do you think about the change? Is Doomfist due for a nerf, or should he be buffed instead? Leave us a comment or chat in our Overwatch group and visit us on Facebook for more info and news.
Once Ashe enters the game, a lot could change anyway. With Ashe and Bob, you can have up to 7 Overwatch heroes on your team.
