Every combination in Overwatch has a counter. Sometimes it can be just as easy against Torbjörns and Bastions…
With Music and Russian Tenacity to Victory
Anyone who has played a lot of Overwatch in recent weeks will have particularly encountered a certain opposing team on the map Hanamura that relies heavily on Bastions, Torbjörns, and Symmetras in defense – often even multiple times. Many players struggle to break through such a wall of turrets, while the solution is often simpler than one might think.
A particularly successful strategy is based on 4 Zaryas and 2 Lúcios. The 4 Russian ladies receive a healing and a speed aura from the two Lúcios and charge with activated barriers toward the point to capture. Due to the damage that the barriers suffer, the weapons of the Zaryas become much more powerful, and opposing players literally melt away. This is particularly useful since the enemy turrets don’t care whether Zarya has activated her barrier – they continue firing relentlessly and amplify the performance of their weapon.
As soon as the first barriers expire, the Zaryas keep each other alive with the second barrier (which is used on allies) while Lucio heals the damage incurred without any fuss. Typically, such a charge is over so quickly that the opposing team has no chance to react quickly enough. This video shows how a particularly successful rush on the control points can turn out:
If this tactic still doesn’t succeed, it can also be worthwhile to swap one Lúcio for a Mercy who acts as “insurance” and can bring all Zaryas back from death. However, the Zaryas will then often have to use their barriers on the healer instead of protecting each other.
What strategies do you use to best deal with Torbjörns and Bastions? Or are you (like me) also fond of the “6 Torbjörns team” and play your own version of “Dwarf Fortress”?
