Healers are having a hard time in Overwatch once again. Their skill rating increases more slowly than that of the DPS colleagues.
Patch 1.10 for Overwatch brought many good and meaningful innovations in addition to the “Uprising” event, which players can continue to play until May 1st to secure exclusive skins, voicelines, emotes, and more cosmetics. However, some changes have crept into the patch that have not been well received by the community.
Several players report in the official forum that their skill rating increases more slowly when playing a healer. This is particularly noticeable with Mercy. The reason is that Mercy hardly collects points for the “On Fire” status through healing. She primarily gains them through resurrecting players.
Mercy only gets proper points with a rez
But what happens if a resurrection is not necessary because Mercy and the team never die or only die rarely?
Then Mercy ends up with a lower skill rating than her colleagues. Many players report that their skill rating only increases by 15-20 points per match, while DPS colleagues they play with in a group bag more than double the points.
Blizzard has since confirmed that there was a change in the calculation for healers and that it was indeed planned. Whether the actual consequences were intentional or if there is a bug is still unknown at this time.
Max Thompson from Blizzard’s Quality Assurance recommends all players to continue sharing their experiences and opinions on this change in the forum so that the developers get a more accurate impression.
A similar problem with healers and skill rating has occurred in Overwatch from time to time. Almost every major patch causes an outcry from the supporter community.
