The Overwatch game mode “Mystery Heroes” will be improved in the future. We reveal what the developers have planned.
In the arcade of Overwatch, you can find all sorts of unusual game modes when you don’t feel like a quick match or competitive games. A perennial favorite is the “Mystery Heroes” mode – Mystery Heroes. All players are assigned random heroes, with duplicate heroes also possible. Once a player dies, they are assigned a new hero.
However, not everything about the game mode is perfect. At the beginning, there is a waiting period of one minute where the team “should choose the heroes” – completely pointless when everyone is assigned a random hero anyway. That’s just a waste of time.
Jeff Kaplan, the game director of Overwatch, has now commented on this mode in the official forum and published some plans that are being considered.
- The “suicide” at the beginning of a match to force a hero change will no longer be possible. The defending team was able to change heroes multiple times until they had a solid combination.
- The waiting time at the beginning of a match will be removed as it serves no purpose.
Furthermore, they want to consider whether duplicate heroes should be allowed for longer. The mode might also follow some small rules to create reasonably solid combinations. However, they want to hear the opinions and ideas of the fans first, as these absurd combinations are exactly what makes Mystery Heroes appealing for many.
The community meanwhile has other ideas to make the mode more exciting. For example, the charge of the ultimate ability should no longer disappear when you die – it would simply be transferred to the next hero. This would mean that “good teams” could no longer continue to stack their ultimates while the trailing team is continually pushed back.
