New job postings at Blizzard make the hearts of Overwatch fans race. It smells like more story and maybe even a new game.
With Overwatch, Blizzard celebrated a major success some years ago, practically “out of nowhere.” The various characters quickly found numerous fans, so it’s hardly surprising that they are now thirsting for stories and new adventures of the heroes. After all, the game “Overwatch” hardly tells stories, aside from the annual Archives event. But that could soon change, as the Overwatch team is looking for new writers for the story.
What is being sought? Currently, they are looking for a “Senior Game Writer,” who is supposed to have a whole range of tasks. Among other things:
- The rapid writing and engaging dialogues for characters, missions, and cinematics.
- Writing in-game background stories for the world, factions, and characters.
- Contributing to the story development of the Overwatch universe.
What does the search mean? At Dexerto, there is speculation about whether the exact naming of the tasks implies special significance. The plural “missions” could indicate that work is being done on a clear PvE story mode, perhaps even a completely standalone game. After all, there has been speculation for some time about an “Overwatch 2,” which is said to play like a Left 4 Dead – that would then be a co-op game.
Another search for the “next generation”: Another job posting is also interesting, as Blizzard is looking for a design manager. This person is to support a “world-class design team in creating the next generation of content for the Overwatch franchise.”
This is of course very vaguely formulated, but it could mean that they are working on a new Overwatch title intended for the next generation of consoles.
By the way, fans are not satisfied with Blizzard at the Overwatch League.
New information in November? In any case, it looks like new story content is finally being planned for Overwatch. Whether it will be integrated into the main game or ultimately become a completely standalone game, the next few months should reveal that. Maybe there will be new information at BlizzCon 2019 in November.
Would you like a new Overwatch game focused on story? Or should Blizzard continue to expand the existing Overwatch?
