A countdown is ticking down at Blizzard. Everything points to new hints of the new Overwatch heroine Sombra.
Sombra announces herself – Today?
No matter how you look at it, Blizzard is having a blast with the hidden announcements surrounding Sombra. Last night, reports flooded in on Reddit and other social media that something “big” is coming. A post has appeared in the official forum containing a message from Sombra. However, after a short time on the website, it starts to change and a screenshot floats across the image before a quite long code appears on the screen. But aside from the hidden messages, the thread holds another mystery. If you look at the posting time in the forum history, you’ll notice that the thread currently states “Posted 5 hours ago” – however, this time is counting down, not up! In an hour, it will say “posted 4 hours ago.” A clear countdown ticking down. What waits at the end of the countdown is still uncertain. Some expect the official announcement of Sombra, while others just a further breadcrumb on the long search.
On Twitter, a user even asked whether the ongoing DDoS attacks on Blizzard’s servers were just a PR gag by Sombra. While that sounds quite counterproductive from a business perspective (since many players are affected), Blizzard is at least partially playing along and asked: “Who is Sombra?”
In general, the whole “Sombra” theme has grown so large that it can hardly be covered in a single post. The diligent investigators have now discovered an email address that sends an automated response as soon as you write to it. This contains new hints, such as a distorted image of Reaper with small “distortion points,” which raise new puzzles.
However, this whole thing is racing towards an end – fans now believe that Sombra will already be playable in Season 2 and will receive her announcement today. In a few hours, we will know it – because then the timer ticks down to 0.
Mein-MMO states: In any case, Blizzard is maximizing the fun around Sombra. Anyone who wants to join all the theories should take a look at the Discord server for all the discussions about Sombra, but beware: Without a tinfoil hat from here to the moon and a 3-year training as a conspiracy theorist, one might feel quite foolish there quickly.
However, the success validates these people – little by little, they are discovering more and more details about the latest Overwatch heroine. It remains exciting. What will happen when the countdown expires in a few hours? We will report on it.
