Sombra is the next hero from Overwatch to be revamped. We reveal what plans Blizzard has for her.
In the current patch 1.20 of Overwatch, the focus of players is mainly on the “Lunar New Year” event. However, fans quickly noticed that there were a handful of undocumented changes to Sombra. Her hack now takes less time, but she no longer gains Ultimate charge when picking up hacked health packs.
In the forum, players were outraged by these changes, as they were neither tested on the PTR nor announced.
Geoff Goodman from Blizzard then explained that the changes to Sombra were a mistake. They accidentally made it into the current patch and were actually intended for an upcoming PTR.
Sombra is indeed set to be revamped. She is in a strange position and still hasn’t quite found her place among the other heroes. Although she is an offensive hero, many players see her more as a half-supporter, thanks to the health packs and disabling abilities via hacking.
The plans for Sombra’s rework
The following changes to Sombra are planned for the upcoming PTR:
- Sombra will no longer gain Ultimate charge from hacked health packs used by the team.
- The spread of her weapon will be reduced by 10%.
- The hack speed will be increased. Instead of 0.8 seconds, it will only take 0.65 seconds.
- Hacking will disable additional abilities. In principle, any ability that requires pressing a button, including:
- Genji – Double Jump / Wall Climb
- Pharah – Hover Rockets
- Hanzo – Wall Climb
- Lúcio – Currently played song is disabled
- Mercy – Angelic Wings
However, there may be further changes that have not yet been mentioned. The rework of Sombra is still a “Work in Progress”.
