New information suggests that the next hero of Overwatch will be an invisible stealth character. Perhaps she can even cloak other heroes?
Datamining Confirms Stealth Abilities
In recent weeks and days, Blizzard has repeatedly released new details and rumors about the upcoming hero Sombra from Overwatch. This information is often well hidden, such as in a short sequence in the Developer’s Update.
Another hint players believe they have spotted in an in-game video of Ana’s abilities. At the end of the clip, a blurred image briefly appears, which many think is Sombra – others believe it’s just a distorted version of Soldier: 76. But what is he doing there?
However, the extracted game files from the beta server are much more revealing. There are various voice lines from some heroes warning the team about certain strange effects.
- For example, Reaper and Soldier: 76 say “Something is not right here”.
- Zenyatta and McCree are even clearer. “I sense the presence of an enemy” and “I can’t see you… but I know you’re there.”
- Torbjörn also has a line: “Ah… someone is hiding here.”
Additionally, many heroes have a voice line that clearly says “Enemy detected” – just like you would reveal an invisible enemy.
What’s interesting is not just that the heroes are saying something, but also that they do not specifically address Sombra. If only Sombra were planned as a stealth character, they would likely address her directly – but they do not. It could therefore either be that Sombra can also grant stealth to other characters or that more stealth characters are planned.
The Youtuber Muselk has summarized all these theories and hints in an English video. Furthermore, he suspects that we will hear more about Sombra by the time of GamesCom, as Blizzard traditionally makes some announcements there.
