Sombra from Overwatch is considered underpowered by many fans. A player on Reddit has come up with an optimal solution.
Those who follow the discussions in the various forums around Overwatch know that there is currently a lot of talk about the upcoming patch 1.07. A hot topic here is the adjustment of Sombra, who will receive a small buff.
She can now hack targets 20% faster than before. Where she previously needed a full second, she can now disable her target in 0.8 seconds. But most players feel that this is still not enough; Sombra still feels underwhelming in most situations.
A post on Reddit has now soared to over 10,000 upvotes, proposing a simple and effective solution to the current problem. The user Meldorn posted his suggestion and received immediate support from the community:
“Sombra is an offensive hero and needs good DPS. However, if her DPS is increased too much, it encourages players to play her only as a frontal attacker – a Tracer variation – instead of as a flanker, as she was originally designed to be.
I believe that the solution here is a middle ground: Sombra’s damage against hacked targets needs to be increased. (…)
When you hack someone, you have spent the surprise element for the hack instead of dealing damage. Sure, the victims no longer have access to their abilities. But Sombra also has no active combat abilities. All you’ve achieved by outsmarting the opponent is that the battlefield is now equal: your left click against their left click.
To be a decent DPS hero, Sombra’s left click needs to be able to win fights when she has earned it. She earns that by hacking an opponent, just like Roadhog earns it when he hits with his hook.
If Sombra is played correctly, flanking and hacking as intended, then she will be rewarded with extra damage to secure kills, without her playstyle turning into that of Tracer. One more note: The damage bonus only applies to Sombra and not to other teammates.”
Cortyn says: Meldorn’s idea sounds excellent to me, as that is usually the dilemma when playing Sombra: Do you use the short advantage for a hack and die, or do you deal damage but not disable the abilities? His solution allows for a new, effective playstyle that finally lets Sombra do what she should be able to do: hack and flank.
Speaking of hacks: They are a big issue in Korea. Many Overwatch players are cheating.
