Is Soldier: 76 actually an old villain from Talon? A strange hint is causing excitement among Overwatch fans.
The story of Overwatch is rich, and the different tales of heroes and villains are tightly intertwined. However, Blizzard has not really shed light on the individual connections. Time and again, we only get small details from a hero’s past. Creating a big overall picture is quite difficult.
And yet, there are a handful of details that particularly ambitious fans notice. On Reddit, user SirlickalotX compared the statements of two characters from different comics. He stumbled upon an interesting find. In the comic “Old Soldiers,” Soldier: 76 casually mentions:
“My old boss always said that there is no such thing as luck. Just good genes.” And in the latest comic “Masquerade,” we can observe the shady omnic Maximilien, who holds a leadership position in the criminal organization Talon. He says in a dialogue:
“You know that there is no such thing as luck.”
Both comics were written by Michael Chu, who is primarily responsible for the story of Overwatch and the heroes.
Some players believe that the phrasing is merely an unintended coincidence. Other fans argue that this “would be a coincidence in the real world. However, this is a narrated fictional story, and Blizzard has shown in the past that 99% of our random finds actually had a connection.” If that is true, Soldier: 76 could have quite a dark past and might have used his genetic enhancements to do plenty of evil things.
What do you think? Is it possible that Soldier: 76 has known the Talon leader Maximilien for a long time? Did he even fund Overwatch?
