For the hero shooter Overwatch there’s a new event coming up called “Year of the Rooster”. New skins have now appeared.
Where the image comes from is not entirely clear. It surfaced on reddit: Chinese players allegedly discovered it “by accident”. The skins would be available from January 24 to January 31, according to the forum.
The four skins are based on “Journey to the West”, a famous Chinese novel from the 16th century. Some characters like the Monkey King Wukong are also well known in the West. The image shows:
- Zenyatta as Tang Sanzang – the master of Wukong
- Winston as Sun Wukong – the Monkey King
- Roadhog is Zhu Bajie – a kind of pig monster, student of Tang Sanzang
- Reinhardt is Sha Heshang – the river monster, another student of Tang Sanzang
Gewara, where the image likely comes from, is a movie ticket company. Even though the event in China is called “Journey to the West”, it will probably be known in the West as “Chinese New Year” or “Year of the Fire Rooster”. So far, Blizzard has only teased the event. It seems to start next Tuesday.
