Those who want to play with their friends find it difficult in Overwatch due to the skill rating limit. However, this does not seem to apply to “Randoms”.
Patch by patch, Blizzard is slowly trying to improve the system for ranked play in Overwatch, but new complaints from players keep surfacing. Currently, players can only sign up for the ranked mode of Overwatch as a group if all group members are within a similar range of skill ratings – depending on the rank, this means 500 or 1000 points.
If two players lie outside this range – for example, one at about 3700 and the other at 3100 – then they cannot play “Ranked” together. However, this does not prevent the game from matching the player with the 3700 rating with other “Randoms” who can very well have a skill rating of 3100 or worse. The demand is clear: “If I cannot play with my friends who are outside my skill rating, then I should not have to play with Randoms outside the skill rating either!”
Overwatch – Players plead with Blizzard: Tear down the limit
But that is not the only problem. The new feature that allows players to choose to “continue playing as a group” at the end of the game leads to frustrating moments. Because if someone had a lot of fun with their team, they can click “continue playing as a group” at the end of the match – only to be told that they cannot play together due to the difference in skill ratings. Even though that just happened.

Other games, such as League of Legends, are also struggling with exactly the same problem. There were several comments stating, “For a moment, I had to check which forum I had landed in.” Replace “Blizzard” with “Riot” and the post would be the same.
Cortyn states: While I can understand that Blizzard only allows players to play together within a certain rating, as it makes matchmaking easier and largely prevents the “boosting” of other players, the mentioned problem is frustrating. If one cannot play with their friends because they are “too good” or “too bad”, but can play with Randoms who fall into the same categories, then frustration is quite understandable. Blizzard, pls.
