How many players have what skill rating in Overwatch? What is actually “good” and what is “bad”?
50% of all players are in the range of 10 rating points
With the introduction of the ranked mode, players can not only earn golden weapons in Overwatch, but also receive a “skill rating,” which classifies how skilled a player is. After placement matches, one receives a rank that is somewhere around 50 – a higher rank is better (more “skill”), a lower rank is worse (less “skill”).
But how are Overwatch players distributed in the ranking system?
The website MasterOverwatch.com analyzes the data of many players and summarizes it clearly, allowing one to check how the skill ratings are distributed. According to them, 90% of all players have a skill rating between 39 and 61 – the remaining 10% consist of the elite at the top and the… particularly unlucky players.
Also interesting: Almost 50% of all players are ranked between 46 and 54. Only at the top does it get thin, as the highest rank achieved so far is 83 – currently only one player holds this position. The lowest skill rating (which is also somewhat of an achievement) is 16.
It should be noted that MasterOverwatch does not capture the data of all players, but only a “sample” of about 80,000 players, so it is quite possible that other players hold the highest and lowest ranks.
Mein-MMO says: The system is still in its infancy, and many players are just finding their way in the ranking system, but these statistics also have a sour taste. Anyone who has played in the past few days often sees different rankings in games that can mean a difference of 10 levels – which means that sometimes you are up against players whose skill level (compared to your own) has half of all players in between. Hopefully, this will settle in the coming weeks and months.
