The rework of Symmetra is causing excitement in the Overwatch community. As a damage hero, she has suddenly become quite good at support.
The highlight of Patch 1.25 in Overwatch was the overhaul of Symmetra. After several years of nerfs, buffs, and reworks, the developers at Blizzard decided to give Symmetra a new role. She is no longer a support, but now specializes in dealing damage. However, her new teleporter allows her to support her team better than ever before.
Teleporter is Symmetra’s best new ability
Notably, her new teleporter is no longer an ultimate but can be placed at will within a 25-meter radius in the world – the second portal appears at Symmetra’s feet. This gives her more options for support than ever before.
Not only heroes can be transported through a portal, but also objects. If Symmetra places the portal directly under an exploding D.Va mech, the mech will be sent through the portal. The reason this often results in a team kill can be seen here:
Almost just as cool is the ability to transport a McCree to a higher position. There he can unleash his “Gunslinger” and shoot enemies in the back. It’s so fast that it’s nearly impossible to react.
But Symmetra is not only impressive offensively; the portal also has defensive uses. This little Swedish engineer here escapes certain death only because of a cleverly placed portal.
These scenes provide amused comments from players. Some lament that the years-long debate about whether Symmetra was really a support hero was unnecessary. They could have just transformed her into a damage hero right away, and she would have been the perfect support.
What do you think of the new Symmetra? Are you having fun playing her? Or do you not like her at all?
