All heroes from Overwatch have received new voice lines on the PTR. These are supposed to be pain-distorted. However, according to the community, this didn’t work out so well.
Pleasure instead of pain: All heroes in Overwatch have new sound effects. The voice actors have recorded new pain screams that can be heard when a hero is burning. However, the screams sound more like pleasure than pain, according to the community.
In the following video, you can listen to how it sounds. Warning! If you are using speakers, outsiders might think something wrong. We recommend headphones.
Why new sound effects at all?
Torbjörn is to blame: The reason for recording new pain screams is the rework of the DPS hero Torbjörn. He has a completely different skill kit in the current version of the Overwatch PTR:
- the scrap mechanic has been removed
- turrets are now placed by throwing
- the weapon is stronger
- instead of distributing armor, Torbjörn buffs himself
- and the ultimate “Melted Core” distributes lava puddles.
The new lava puddles burn opponents and deal additional damage if they have armor. This ability is precisely why new voice recordings were made and played.
As soon as a character is in the lava puddles, he screams in pain.
The community finds it funny: The comments on the new voice files are mostly positive; the community finds it funny. However, the goal of conveying the pain of burning seems to have been somewhat missed.
Only Lúcio’s screams are praised by the fans. For him, it sounds like he is really burning and not having fun. The comment from “Mediocre Gamer” summarizes it well:
Everyone: Reaches the climax
Lúcio: “I AM LITERALLY ON FIRE AND MY MUSIC DOES NOTHING TO HELP”
Sound recordings from Reinhardt are still missing. The tank hero is currently disabled on the PTR due to a serious bug.
There’s more happening on the PTR: The heroine Pharah is getting a rework that no one asked for.
