No desire for strangers? In Overwatch , you will soon be able to earn XP in private matches! Also: Server browsers are coming, “Capture the Flag” remains as a mode.
Overwatch has released another “Developer Update,” in which Jeff Kaplan talks about upcoming new features of the hero shooter. One point that has been long requested by the community is the introduction of a server browser. That’s exactly what is happening in the upcoming patch, as Kaplan explains in the latest video:
Those who want can create their own games with the release of the next patch and have these listed in the “server browser.” There are also numerous filter functions that allow you to narrow down the selection. Should only friends be able to join the game? Do you want to only search for control point maps?
A lot of fine-tuning will soon be possible. If desired, individual heroes can be completely removed from cooldowns, allowing Widowmaker – like Spiderman – to use her grappling hook permanently. A “boss fight” is also possible, where a Roadhog has three times the health points and faces off against 6 other players with half health points.
However, the feature is still in an early form. In the coming months, it is expected to be further developed, depending on community feedback – ultimately, the number of customization options should be “virtually endless.”
Experience points also in the “Custom Game” mode
For many games, it’s a taboo: as soon as players are able to determine the factors for a match themselves – such as setting both teams and match duration – there is no progress in currency or resources. Such matches are merely “for fun,” so they can’t be exploited for quick leveling. However, Overwatch takes a different approach and allows exactly that: experience points in private matches.
The exact details are still to be awaited. However, it can be assumed that there will be significantly fewer experience points than in Quick Play or a Ranked match. Blizzard will likely want to avoid “mindless afk-farming” in its own interest.
Capture the Flag remains
As expected, the “event” mode Capture the Flag will remain in Overwatch. At the moment, it functions as the event “Capture the Rooster” on three maps. It is supposed to work on 9 other maps.
The mode will be configurable like the others, allowing players to customize it according to their preferences. Hero abilities can be turned on or off. The rules for flag capturing are selectable.
All of this is supposed to come with the next patch. Blizzard has not yet provided a date for it.
The patch will also bring massive buffs for Bastion and Mercy!
