The hook of Roadhog in Overwatch will likely be nerfed again soon. The stun effect will be a thing of the past.
With the latest major patch of Overwatch, the balance of the game has been adjusted significantly, and especially Roadhog’s hook has lost some of its fear factor. He is no longer able to pull opponents “around corners” – but this came with a trade-off. The victims of Roadhog now land much more precisely right in front of him, which especially leads to a guaranteed kill against “smaller” characters like Lúcio or Ana.
In the official forum, many players still consider the hefty character too powerful, as he remains the undisputed king of duels. Hardly any character can survive his combo. The user Infenyte suggested making the hook work more like Junkrat’s trap. This would mean that most heroes could not use abilities while hooked, but could still use their weapons. Especially “injured” Roadhogs would have to think twice about whether they really want to pull an opponent close to them.
Geoff Goodman, the Principal Designer of Overwatch, responded quickly:
“I have already thought about this idea before, but to be honest, we have never tried it. It would be relatively easy to give it a try, and it’s probably worth testing to see how it feels for both sides.”
This clearly indicates that Roadhog’s hook will receive another nerf in one of the upcoming updates – at least for testing purposes on the PTR.
Especially heroes like Mei or Reaper, who each have an “invulnerability effect”, could additionally free themselves from the hook. Especially Reaper would then pose an even greater threat to the 600-HP meatball.
